Well know what you mean, l have played football for many years and would have just put my foot through it or gone for the full length diving header, have heard what the tv pundits say about it and to tell you the truth they make me laugh.

They say it was on his wrong foot to boot it away, now dont get me wrong, but on the wages he is on surely he can kick with both feet, thats the problem with players today, they only get trained on one foot only.

When my dad was teaching me at an early age, he made me practice on my left as that was the weakest foot, and it worked as l can play with either, would have loved to be as good as those or even been able to make semi-pro.

any way the way chelsea played they deserved nothing, liverpool done all the attacking, l dont care who wins but like to watch a game with 2 teams not one.

Most of the mid-field play (creatively) was poor though. I mean the tracking and tackling was fantastic, particularly players Kuyt in the first half. But the number of missed or blocked passes and blind alleyway runs was frustrating. Liverpool should have scored a few. Torres just didn't have the killer instinct and touch he normally has. Chelsea were RUBBISH going forward and never really looked like scoring anything. Very very lucky result for a Chelsea team that are nowhere near their best. Liverpool are crying out for someone to take over the game in the middle of the park and direct the flow and pace of the game...

I agree..LFC had no one step up to generate/lead the attack from midfield..For 2 quality teams the game lacked any kind of rhythm.

Fabio Aurelio's season is over
Apr 24 2008 by Tony Barrett, Liverpool Echo

LIVERPOOL have suffered a major blow after in-form Fabio Aurelio was ruled out for at least three weeks.

The Brazilian left-back was stretchered off in the second half of Tuesday's drawn Champions League semi-final against Chelsea following an innocuous challenge with Joe Cole.

Now Liverpool's worst fears have been realised after Aurelio was diagnosed with a torn abductor muscle – an injury which will rule him out of the rest of the Premier League campaign.

Even if Liverpool do manage to get past Chelsea next week, Aurelio would still face a race against time to be ready for the final on May 21.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez said: "I have been talking with the doctor and with this kind of injury it usually takes a minimum of three weeks for the player to recover so it will be very difficult for Fabio to play again this season.

"It is very disappointing because Fabio has been doing a good job for the team."

Martin Skrtel is the latest Liverpool player to state his belief that the Reds can still conquer Chelsea despite the last gasp own goal they conceded on Tuesday night when John Arne Riise sent a misguided header crashing past Pepe Reina.

The Slovak said: "For most of the time we were in the lead, we controlled the game, we created more chances than them.

"Petr Cech did perfectly for Chelsea and we, instead of winning 3-0, managed to claim just a 1-1 draw.

"Everything is still open, there are 90 minutes to be played.

"They are up now but I firmly believe that we have the potential to score a goal at Stamford Bridge.

“And if we don't concede, we will go through – the mathematics is as simple as that. I am convinced it will turn out well for us in the end.”

Skrtel refused to blame Riise for his own goal, although he admitted he was shocked by the manner in which Liverpool conceded.

"It was a big shock and disappointment for me," he added. "Nobody expected anything like that as it was the last moments of the game.

"After Kalou's cross two defenders were in front of the goal and I was the one to defend Drogba. The ball came to the far post, Riise wanted to head it over the goal or out of the pitch but he did not manage to do that. It is a pity but there is still the second leg where we can undo this stumble."

Meanwhile, Tom Hicks has described his latest meeting with Rafa Benitez as "positive and encouraging".

The controversial co-owner met with the boss at Melwood yesterday to discuss summer transfer plans and Hicks' own position at the club.

"We had a great meeting," said Hicks. "We talked about a lot of things and it was very positive and encouraging. We have agreed to meet again and it is a very healthy situation. Rafa is happy and wants to talk about where he is taking the club."

* Liverpool's reserves will meet Aston Villa in the play-off final between the North and South winners of the Barclays Premier Reserve League at Anfield on Wednesday, May 7 (7.45pm).

Obviously the goal was very inconvenient. Liverpool now have to play with attacking content. Maybe go with 2 strikers up front (crouch and torres). we can do that, we can score and sit back. If they score, no probs, it will go to extra time.

I do not want to criticise the lad as I'm sure he feels like crud however he has been absolutely rubbish this season and hopefully will be replaced come the end of the current campaign.

We really do need to improve both flanks defensively and going forward,we need a couple of wingers and fullbacks. There has been talk of buying Gareth Barry,I would be in favour of buying him and playing him at left back (In place of Riise) and buying a couple of wingers, possibly Quaresma and Bentley.

Riise will probably play next week as Fabio is ruled out for the rest of the season, typical of his luck really, just getting into a groove after his last layoff then bang it happens again.

Barry is a very strong rumour at the moment, still nothing definate, Bentley is probably a no no, all talk of him has dwindled in recent weeks, people are still trying to work out who the player for the first team is thats apparently signed and sealed come transfer window, a foreign player who speaks good English.

How good is Queresma's English i wonder.............

can someone explain why they would waste money on barry.lets put him up against carrick scholes hargreaves anderson essien fabregas the list goes on.thought liverpool wanted to win something next season???????as for all the speculation about liverpools transfer list [names and a lot of them are above]buy the whole lot of them and the most liverpool could achieve is the carling cup.i dont hate liverpool by any means and would gladly welcome third/fourth team into the title race but i see newcastle want henry for €19m why cant the pool go for someone like that and get rid of the class of kuyt or at least play the beanpole instead.think dirk and benitez are sleeping with eachother.united got rid of superb players over the years and arsenal also so dont you think its about time to get rid of gerrard and honestly liverpool will probably improve because it seems liverpool could send out reina carragher skirttel[bad spellings] gerrard and torres because no other liverpool player seems to get a mention during games.sell gerrard and you might have a good unit instead of two "mini teams" playing as one!

Barry offers things that Carrick doesn't. In fact I don't really rate Carrick at all, that was bad business, 16 million or so just because they knew United were between a rock and a hard place. He's done nothing in any of Utd's important matches. As for getting rid of Gerrard. I think it would be crazy to throw away that kind of attacking quality and leadership. what they need are more players of the quality of Torres and Gerrard not ditching the quality they already have!

Kuyt is class, it just isnt shown for his goal scoring ratio.... Crouch isnt the same type of player... how many times do you see him defending... Kuyt is everywhere he needs to be in a game.

as for henry... not a chance......

Mini teams.... Ronaldo and Shrek for example... windows glass houses...

nicked from another forum...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=562562&in_page_id=1779&ito=newsnow

you just have to love the guy.....

Fernando Torres has branded Rafa Benitez an obsessive taskmaster, labelled Anfield's dressing-rooms antiquated and slammed Premier League defenders for being over-physical.

And the 24-year-old Spain striker, who will lead Liverpool's attack against Chelsea in tomorrow night's Champions League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge, has vowed revenge on Blues centre-backs John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho for the treatment they have given him this season.

Torres has been a revelation since his £21m club record move from Atletico Madrid last summer, scoring 30 goals in 42 games.

And although he thanked Benitez for making him a better player, he insisted: "Rafa Benitez is obsessed with details. He calculates everything, including runs and flights of the ball, and studies it on his computer.

"And if he tells you to stand five feet from the penalty spot, it's not in your best interests to be six feet from it. He'll show you that the extra distance makes the difference between a goal and a missed chance – and it has worked for me.

"The proof for me is that I had never scored a club hat-trick in my life before joining Liverpool. But I've since got three, against Reading, Middlesbrough and West Ham.

"Rafa explained everything to me before I even signed – how we would play, and what our aims were. He even gave me a work schedule in advance.

"He has great powers of seduction and he makes crazy demands on us. At the end of training, when we are all tired, he can still make us repeat routines 20 or 30 times.

"I found the Anfield dressing-room very old and very small, and the players are right up against one another inside it. Rafa has tried to get it extended several times.

"But the senior players told him that the dressing-room had been like that for a lifetime and that it was like a listed building.

"The first home game I played was against Chelsea. I went back inside after the pre-match warm-up, and the crowd was singing so loudly the walls seemed to shake.

"I remember thinking that there is no way we can lose here and that day I scored against Chelsea.

"Nobody is sure of his first-team place at Liverpool. Rafa is merciless, and anyone who wants to play in matches has to earn the right in training.

"It is different to Spain, where only an earthquake can change the pecking order at a club. You soon learn the Liverpool way of doing things.

"If you train like an amateur you end up dropped to the bench for the next game.

"Training sessions here are tough and committed and at the same rhythm as proper matches. The spirit is the same at the weekend. English football is physical and reasonably honest – in contrast to La Liga.

"The Spanish game is more vicious, and you get studs-first challenges and elbowings off the ball. All defenders in England are tough, the good ones and the less gifted likewise. It must be written in their contracts!

"But now I've taken that on board I've got to go out and earn my money. I am paid to deal with this and I am not scared of a scrap so long as it is fair.

"I have wanted to play against guys like John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho for a long time, and they do me an honour by giving me a tough time.

"Now I'm going to try to respond to them by getting a couple of goals against Chelsea. Everybody dreams about playing in the Champions League and in the space of a few months I have gone from watching it on TV to having a part in it.

"I have already got plenty of memories. My goal at the San Siro when we beat Inter Milan 1-0, the 4-0 win over Marseille, and my goal in the 4-2 win over Arsenal.

"And now it is the turn of Chelsea. I don't ask myself questions – I just tell myself time and again that I have done the right thing to join Liverpool."

Dubai ruler pulls the strings in Liverpool deal

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By Roger Blitz, Leisure Industries Correspondent - Financial Times

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, is playing an active role in negotiations over Liverpool Football Club, underlining the prospect of a Premier League club being wholly owned and guaranteed for the first time by a sovereign state.

Dubai’s attempt to buy Liverpool has for months been channelled through Dubai International Capital, Sheikh Mohammed’s investment arm.

Sameer al-Ansari, DIC’s chief executive and a longstanding Liverpool fan, was regarded as the prime mover of the attempt to prise the club from its warring US owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett.

However, people close to the situation say the Liverpool takeover bid has become one in which Sheikh Mohammed has taken a close personal interest. He receives personal regular updates on developments by PCP Capital Partners, Dubai’s UK-based advisers, which co-invests with Dubai and its investment vehicles.

In spite of Mr Hicks’s determination to block Dubai, Mr Gillett is equally adamant he will not sell his half share to his estranged business partner. But the club’s future may become clearer tomorrow night if the team fails to win the second leg of its Champions League semi-final at Chelsea.

Though his sport of choice is horseracing, Sheikh Mohammed is a Liverpool supporter dating back to the early 1980s. Hamdan bin Mohammed, his 25-year-old son, who in February was named crown prince, is a fanatical supporter.

Should the club be sold, Liverpool would end up being owned by a vehicle of the Dubai government – partly via PCP – rather than DIC.

The upshot would be that Liverpool, in the hands of a sovereign state, would not be bound by the level of returns DIC, as a private equity business, would require.

It would also suggest Dubai would hang on to the club for an indefinite period whereas DIC would have been expected to sell the club when it felt it had made a sufficient return from its investment.
