| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/26/2008 2:57:29 AM | Damn even in the midst of the Euros I miss regular season. lol
Genuinely though, I think it's a little misleading to quote particular stats when looking at a season overall. The team with the best overall record wins the league plain and simple. The wheels seemed to come off the Liverpool effort for far too long...I still remember the papers suggesting that Rafa "had to go" and other such rubbish. He's a fine manager (though I thought he might have pushed the Pool a bit higher in the league at this stage.)
An awful lot depends on who he brings in this Summer. Another striker, one or two top class midfielders and I think you guys would be well set to make a real push for the league. But the squad seemed to be carrying a little dead weight in my opinion over the last couple of years.

| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/26/2008 4:22:56 AM | Fiona,
Okay forget all the little bits and pieces it takes to get you there to Anfield.
Just share a fantasy with me a little, but just with real life experience.
I want to know what its like to be there. With the "12th man". Singing "You'll never walk alone". Stevie G leads them out of the tunnel. It's another one of those glorious European nights at Anfield where it's do or die...............
88 minutes in and Stevie cracks a screamer from outside the area...............GOAL!!
Share with me (one who can only dream to go to Anfield on such a night) what the heck is it like being so privilaged to be there.

| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/26/2008 2:36:43 PM | Ha kirk, the first post from you i dont feel bit at! lol
I am missing the regular season, i know i wont get the first or second home game either, so it feels like its going to go on forever. first home is a bank holiday weekend and we are on holiday, the 2nd is the utd game and we've got tickets for proms in the park, so it looks like the middle of September for me. ARGH!!!!
I dont think Rafa will bring in much this summer, there are only 3 places that could do with strengthening, and the cost of those to better the quality we have will be way over his budget.
The squad has been carying allot of dead weight, Kewell, Veronin, Intandje to name but a few. sadly only one of those 3 have gone.
RED 07
I cant explain what its like, you cant until you go there, whilst always being brought up to be a fan (i have pictures of me in hand knitted cardigans in the colours, one even had a name and number on the back) Once you go to a game its different, you bounce of the people around you. You see us using scarves to cover our faces when the tension is that high for a reason, lol i dont think you can put into words what it feels like to be there, i pretty sure if i didn't go to games my passion would waiver.
It was my 5 year olds first game last season, she stood up, cheered, even did the bounce, sang YNWA, even the first verse of scouser Tommy bless. It was a very proud moment for me. I suppose it sums it up, with all the excitement as soon as she had the chance after the game she was asleep in my arms.

| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/27/2008 12:59:52 AM | | What do Liverpool supporters make of Benayoun? Is that how you spell it? I can never remember... | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/27/2008 3:16:56 AM | I reckon Benayoun is a decent skilful player, but I don't think he's of the calibre that Liverpool require.
He's got quick feet & good at keeping close control of the ball & usually gets into great positions. I also think he's a decent goalscorer.
But for some reason I just don't like him as a player, but that's just my opinion. If you want a more professional & in depth analysis just ask Princess Fiona.
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/27/2008 3:20:09 AM | | I'm inclined to agree with you Eddie. I've often felt that the bigger games tend to pass him by with Liverpool. For all that he was involved in a tremenduous move when he came on as a sub against Chelsea in the CL...I think it might have been the second leg...with Torres finishing with a goal???? But I don't think he's quite good enough at Liverpool. Doesn't impose himself on the ball enough or take enough responsibility in midfield for me... | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 6/28/2008 2:10:59 AM | Can't say I've really seen anything of him since English Premier League is no longer on free-to-air in Australia (and hasn't been for a few years now) and I don't have Pay TV.
But he would seem on paper at least to be a similar type to Jari Litmanen. Maybe without the pedigree or the finese in finishing.
Don't know much else, but I sold him in FIFA 2008......... LOL
And I bought French Internationals Samir Nasri and Karim Benzema instead!
* Yeah, I know, I'm a nutter *

| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/1/2008 5:17:16 AM | | rafa is not the man for the job he changes the line up to much n the lads dont have a clue were there playing. | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/7/2008 7:01:33 AM | sherry i can describe it!! think of the olympiacos game....
cold night breeze, everyone with massive grins on there faces knowing that they were the lucky ones that got tickets, people oozing confidence for the team, the night turning absolutely electric, that much so there seemed to be static swaying in the air!! all the hairs on your neck standing rigid.. the scream of the fans as they exited the tunnel. 45,000 fans singing and becoming one voice i came away from that game deafer than when i went to an ac/dc gig years ago, the buzz was not just from the night it was in my ears..
now to 25-05-05 there was to many emotions that id never really known i had to descibe, but being there says it all!
that any good for a description?????

| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/8/2008 11:58:53 PM | Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has hinted he may target Valencia striker David Villa as a replacement for Portsmouth-bound Peter Crouch.
Crouch is poised to complete his summer transfer to Fratton Park after Pompey agreed a fee with Liverpool on Monday.
Spain's Villa has reportedly attracted strong interest from several leading European clubs after he finished top scorer at Euro 2008.
The 26-year-old has since insisted he is happy at the Mestalla; however Benitez could be set to test the forward's resolve.
sherry, didnt i say that about 2 months ago!!!!
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/9/2008 5:04:43 AM | Wow, that's interesting news. But hardly too surprising.
Rafa, the Mestalla, Villa, Euro 2008. Doesn't this sort of thing happen every two years, notably after a World Cup or Euro Championship campaign has shown up somebody as a star?
Well I hope it doesn't end up as a waste of what will surely be a lot of money on a good player who had a great tournament.
Remember Salvatori Schillaci who won the Golden Boot at the World Cup Italia 90? He went on to sign for Juventus and was pretty ordinary in a lack lustre career in Turin.
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/10/2008 1:53:18 AM | looks like all the crap going about could do us reds a favour hahahaha
Alexander Hleb has had another moan, via an interview in Russia, to claim he doesn't like the busy London lifestyle. Certainly explains his desire to move to Barcelona - that quiet, unassuming European hamlet. Arsenal are to lose both Alexander Hleb and Gilberto by the end of the week, Tottenham are holding a fire sale at White Hart Lane, and Frank Lampard is staying/going/ready to go to the court of human rights to complain about being a slave. Fifa's top dog zebidy blatter has proffered his view that football is too full of 'modern slavery' having been quizzed on his thoughts on the saga that is Cristiano Ronaldo's protracted move to Real Madrid. In comments that are in no-way ill-conceived, Blatter believes Ronaldo, who is expected to come through the credit crunch unscathed on his reported slave wage of £120,000 per week, has every right to move wherever he jolly-well likes
go on you greasy greedy portugese 2hat bugger off to real madrid!!!!

| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/24/2008 7:58:58 PM | New LFC signings:
Hi LFC fans,
With the new season not to far away now, I was wondering what everyone thinks of some of the new signings and youth players coming through. All negatives aside (from my point of view), I'm excited to see the progress of young guns coming through to first team action.
Daniel Pacheco (Spain) - Forward - 17 David Ngog (France) - Forward - 19 Krisztian Nemeth (Hungary) - Forward - 19 Andrea Dossena (Italy) - Left-back - 19 Philipp Degen (Switzerland) - Right-back - 25
Probably lots more I can mention here, but won't.
And good news to see that Xabi Alonso isn't going anywhere. Maybe that's as good as another signing.
I remember not so long ago when four young lads made there debuts respectively at teenaged years. They all went on to be great players.
I'm talking about Steve McManaman; Robbie Fowler; Michael Owen & Steven Gerrard.
Maybe, Pacheco, Ngog, Nemeth and few others could be on the verge of similar entries to world-class stardom.
We can only hope. | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 7/28/2008 5:29:15 PM | | Xabi Alonso's stock is definitely on the rise after Euro 08. | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/16/2008 12:43:33 PM | One game in, three points in the bag. Not the prettiest display i must admit but you could put that down to first game jitters.
Good to see the blue side of Liverpool start as they mean to go on
On a more serious note tho, Mr Parry, get your thumb out of your butt and do the job you are paid to do and stop fretting about what colour tie you have to wear, its a football club you work for, so hire footballers !!
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/16/2008 1:50:15 PM | errmmmm 1st game jitters im sure i seen them play even worse against SL in the week, admit it they are a has been side there glory days are long gone, there yanky board wont back the manager ,they will be lucky to finnish in the top six if you ask me, | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/16/2008 3:46:28 PM | Was expecting a reply such as this MEAT PIE, cl football is completely different to the epl, proof of that pudding was our win in 2005. By the sound of it chap you are not a Liverpool supporter, so no, i will not be asking you ! | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/17/2008 11:54:56 AM | Parry did alright backing the fans on the carslberg crap, that was a nightmare of a thing to consider by our sponsors,
but yep, first weekend over, we picked up the 3 points thats what's important, chavs seemed to do alright today.
rather pleased with the Geordies today too.
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/24/2008 2:52:09 AM | Poor old Xabi Alonso...did you see the reaction to the last gasp winner against Middlesbrough on Saturday...two massive "team hugs" were going on on the pitch and he wasn't included in either of them... Its about time Rafa put an end to the Gareth Barry saga and tell Alonso, "you are my man" He sprays the ball around the pitch as well as any Liverpool player since super slim Jan Molby. Only a matter of time before Robbie Keane becomes part of Liverpool folklore...He's starting to gel with Fernando Torres now... I'm just hoping the Manchester United game hasn't come too early in the season for us... Is it just me, or does anyone else have their doubts about Pepe Reina.... Does have a few too many moments of madness to be a world class keeper.... Keep up the good start boys | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/24/2008 4:55:08 AM | | Do any of the pool fans think that you guys spent WAY too much on Robbie Keane???? I mean, I'm Irish, he's captain of my national team and I genuinely like the guy, but there is no way I would think he is worth almost as much money as was spent on Torres!!!! No way is he worth 20 million pounds... | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/24/2008 12:58:55 PM | I looking like the "dead weight" does not include Alonso Good news in my opinion Its good to be top of the Prem even for alittle while Im hoping we continue to grind out the result and not lose valuable starting points like we have in the past
Well done Stevie G lifting the game once more and I dont blame Carra for claiming the goal But still waiting to see what Robbie can do Come on lad Get on with it YNWA
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/25/2008 1:28:02 AM | this is sooooooooooooo awesome about this thread! I am a long time fan going back to the 70's as they were one of the first teams I ever heard of when I was starting to play.
It is nice to meet you all!
They have looked very average so far but I will take 2 average wins over 2 pretty draws or losses!
anyone else post at http://www.thisisanfield.com or http://www.uslfc.com ??
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/25/2008 1:31:34 AM | | I hope so much to get to anfield so I can attend a match no matter who they play before they hopefully eventually move into a new stadium if all the chaos in the front office finally works itself out. | |
|
| Liverpool F.C Posted: 8/25/2008 2:21:59 PM | | Slaves with nothing to lose but their chains Ludicrous Wheres Amnesty International whaen you need them The premiership would be better off without Ronaldos poncey character Why dosnt he just show his skills instead of being such a Prima Donna Man U at home 13th I can feel the anticipation building already Do you think Mascherano will play?
