That is really quite profound and you have hit the nail on the head. So the question should be not just about the tattoos, but how we all devote ourselves to unsuitable realtionships, with unsuitable people. Chucking ourselves in at the deep end. I think having children without thinking and to whoever is the done thing now and is completely acceptable - and is an indictment of the society we have become.

I think I prefer to think that when we enter into a relationship and have a family with someone, it is a triumph of hope over experience. The tattoo thing is experience over hope perhaps. Every relationship will end. If we're lucky, the end will come after a long and happy life together. Otherwise, it's the divorce courts. As to which is the more painful/destructive I can't say as my experience is limited to only one field.

So what does this thread show everyone about relationships and people who have tattoos - hmm interesting...

It shows that all sorts of peeps have tatts and all sorts of peeps have relationships. To assume anything other from the information given is somewhat judgemental, IMO.

Well, on evidence, it shows that people are fairly immature and infantile in their hopes about relationships. Yes it is judgemental - what's wrong with that - the evidence, albeit limited, here, seems to support my judgement.

If people didn't ink their partners' names on their skin I'd not be worried but the anecdotal evidence does seem to support that this happens a lot and it leads to problems and unhappiness later - so go figure as they say - I think, perhaps, that Tattooists should have a code of ethics about this really as it's so common.

Yes, I'd grant you that some people do have ink that is on their bodies and do have a life partner.

My judgement on all this really is to shake my head and say - well why couldn't they see it coming?

The range of human stupidity in this sphere never fails to amaze me.

So shoot me :P

Having someones name or names tattoo'ed on you is just like keeping a photo or a letter from an ex, yes they did exhist, yes you did go out with them...yes you did find them extremely attractive at some point.

Don't deny your past.

I plan to start an ongoing tattoo of words depicting different stages of my life, names...words etc. If I started it today my daughters name would be there, so would my partners name...maybe my fave band of the moment - even if my tastes change.

It will hold some history of my life & give the embalmers a chuckle when my time is up.
