Listen to your gut feeling; it is trying to tell you something.

I have conflicting views on the subject:

I realize that my gut feelings are about conditioning, social conventions, tribal law, and hormones.

None of those resources are worth my time as a thinking, educated, powerful, lucid individual.

On the other hand, I've discovered I have a capacity to justify certain things using terrible intellectual strength that always turn out wrong.

Hey, all:

Hey, Bunny: Interesting comments. It is common to overthink and to rationalize our feelings away, so you are in a well-represented group. On the other hand, you certainly are aware of the problems and consequences of overthinking so you are better off than many in that group.

I guess this illustrates that if we weren't all so smart, maybe our guts would get a better hearing from us when they try to say things. Ha--have you considered revisiting those 'resources that are not worth your time'? Maybe we all should.

To a few people here:

What am I: Are you talking about the book called 'Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell? GREAT book.
(also wrote the Tipping Point - another great book.)

Thatsmemom - You're right, hindsight IS always 20/20....

BUT.......as silly human beings that we are, can we all not just admit to going against that OWN little voice in our head at one point or another? The one that goes off like a gong/siren/air raid horn? OP, I feel your grief and regret.

It is great to be able to see other people's devastation from the comfort of our own armchair. Believe me, been there done that. Perhaps a rhetorical question but I wonder why we can always see it a mile away for others, yet, we sometimes choose to ignore those same signals ourselves.
...........sigh.............WD

Well,

So far so good.....dont know if it is going to work out....I know where I have played a part as well in this...and I am no angel either....but he has admitted alot of things to me.........he has let his past interfer with his future....I am not a quitter that is my problem....if I see good in someone whether it be a partner or a friend I wont give up on them.....

I know I should have run away from this relationship a thousand times but at this moment my gut is telling me I am where I should be.....this is the last chance though....time will tell....but we also have agreed that if we want to date other people we will....if we are meant to be it will work if not we tried.....

Just to add....I never meant to imply that it was all being blamed on him; but I did ask throughout this breakup what was the problem....and blamed it all on myself.....but he did not take responbility for his part....Every relationship that breaks up is caused by both individuals in some form or another...IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO......

Ok...so you just totally contradicted yourself, OP. I guess you really didn't learn your lesson about " listening to your gut ". What a fool!

I have been following my Gut with this guy i have recently been dating... and its the first time I have done so. Its telling me this isnt over, but he has ended it due to his own confusion. it hurts, but i cant let go of this right now. There is something there so strong I have never felt before.

I think listening to your gut is a very important thing to do. If you dont is when you end up lost.
