| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/19/2007 4:08:01 PM | @ Audi and Jaw,
I would like to know of these bands. Sometimes they are indeed good. I recall a Led Zeppelin band that was amazing.
But, I feel that the Floyd is a harder tune to follow, IMO.
I do kinda wish I had a different title to this thread, as I think I didnt want it to be personal, more so the tunes the person can relate to.
3 pages now, you all are doing well...

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/19/2007 4:17:34 PM | Gavin also does a REALLY good cover of Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On."
Got that one too! I'm just an ol' Beatles fan, and Gavin did a great job on that one. And yes I know..."Jealous Guy" was a John Lennon tune, but I try to look at it as the Beatles never broke up....they just started doin' solo projects....lol They'll get together and jam again....(that great gig in the sky) that is unless Lennon is burnin' for his "popular" remark...lmao

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/20/2007 7:50:09 AM | "That night her kiss told me it was over I walked out late into the dark The misty gloom seems to soak up my sorrow The further I went on I felt a spreading calm Then suddenly my eyes were bathed in a light And the lovely lady in white was by my side She said "Like me I see you're walking alone Won't you please stay?" I couldn't look away
She said I love the night The day is OK and the sun can be fun But I live to see those rays slip away I love the night There's so much I can show and give to you If you will welcome me tonight If only you had been there my dear We could have shared this together
No mortal was meant to see such wonder One look in the mirror told me so Come darkness I'll see her again Yes I'm gonna go 'cause now I know
She said I love the night The day is OK and the sun can be fun But I live to see those rays slip away I love the night There's so much that I can show and give to you If you will welcome me tonight If only you had been there my dear We could have shared this together"

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/20/2007 11:31:05 AM | I have Gavin's cover of Jealous guy, and it is amazing. Gavin is just an all around great musician. I've seen him twice in concert and would go again in a heartbeat. He has one of the prettiest voices I've ever heard...His music comes from the heart and touches the minds and souls of his fans. He truly is an amazing musician.
"Snow (Hey Oh)" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Come to decide that the things that I tried Were in my life just to get high on
When I sit alone come get a little known But I need more than myself this time
Step from the road to the sea to the sky And I do believe that we rely on
When I lay it on Come get to play it on All my life to sacrifice
Hey oh listen what I say oh I got your Hey oh (now) listen what I say oh
When will I know that i really can't go To the well once more time to decide on
When it's killing me When will I really see All that I need to look inside
Come to believe that I better not leave Before I get my chance to ride
When it's killing me What do I really need All that I need to look inside
Hey oh listen what I say oh Come back and Hey oh look at what I say oh
The more I see the less I know The more I like to let it go... hey oh whoa
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided And there's nowhere to go
In between the cover of another perfect wonder And it's so white as snow
Running through a field where all my tracks will Be concealed and there is nowhere to go
When to descend to amend for friend All the channels that have broken down
Now you bring it up I'm gonna ring it up Just to hear you sing it out
Step from the road to the sea to the sky And I do believe that we rely on
When I lay it on Come get to play it on All my life to sacrifice
Hey oh listen what I say oh I got your Hey oh listen what I say oh
The more I see the less I know The more I like to let it go... hey oh whoa
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided And there's nowhere to go
In between the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field where all my tracks will Be concealed and there is nowhere to go
I said hey yeah Oh yeah Tell my love now
Hey yeah Oh yeah Tell my love now
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided And there's nowhere to go
Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder Where it's so white as snow
Running through the field where all my tracks will Be concealed and there's nowhere to go
I said hey oh yeah Oh yeah Tell my love now
Hey yeah Oh yeah | |

"Same Old Lang Syne" - Dan Fogelberg
Met my old lover in the grocery store, The snow was falling Christmas Eve. I stole behind her in the frozen foods, And I touched her on the sleeve.
She didn't recognize the face at first, But then her eyes flew open wide. She went to hug me and she spilled her purse, And we laughed until we cried.
We took her groceries to the checkout stand, The food was totalled up and bagged. We stood there lost in our embarrassment, As the conversation dragged.
We went to have ourselves a drink or two, But couldn't find an open bar. We bought a six-pack at the liquor store, And we drank it in her car.
We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now. And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how.
She said she'd married her an architect, Who kept her warm and safe and dry, She would have liked to say she loved the man, But she didn't like to lie.
I said the years had been a friend to her, And that her eyes were still as blue. But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw, Doubt or gratitude.
She said she saw me in the record stores, And that I must be doing well. I said the audience was heavenly, But the traveling was hell.
We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to now. And tried to reach beyond the emptiness, But neither one knew how. We drank a toast to innocence, We drank a toast to time. Reliving in our eloquence, Another 'auld lang syne'......
The beer was empty and our tongues were tired, And running out of things to say. She gave a kiss to me as I got out, And I watched her drive away. Just for a moment I was back at school, And felt that old familiar pain ......... And as I turned to make my way back home, The snow turned into rain ..............

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/24/2007 6:32:51 PM | Ok, I'll bite and be the first post in Feb.
ARTIST: Mac Davis TITLE: It's Hard to Be Humble
Oh Lord it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way I can't wait to look in the mirror 'cause I get better lookin' each day To know me is to love me, I must be a hell of a man Oh Lord it's hard to be humble, but I'm doin' the best that I can
I used to have a girlfriend but I guess she just couldn't compete With all these love starved women who keep clamoring at my feet Well I probably could find me another but I guess they're all in awe of me Who cares I never get lonesome 'cause I treasure my own company
I guess you could say I am a loner, a cowboy all locked up and proud Well I could have lots of friends if I wanted, but then I wouldn't stand out in a crowd Some folks say that I'm egotistical - hell I don't even know what that means I guess it has something to do with the way that I fill out my skin tight blue jeans

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/24/2007 6:53:31 PM | I have always loved this song, particularly for it's lyrics. I've been looking to find a copy for years and have had no success. If anyone knows of a source, please let me know.
Music and lyrices by Jon Kay of Steppenwolf.
If the heart is a lonely hunter Then the mind is a loaded gun Sometimes it begins to wonder If the love you seek is on the run All day you've been thinkin' 'bout the coming night It's the only time you really fear It holds no tenderness For you're alone in this wilderness Hold on, never give up, never give in Stay young and believe in your chance to win Hold on, never give up, never give in Stay young and don't ever betray your dreams A rough night in the daily jungle And it's tough times on the nightly news Somehow you ignore the rumble Of the heart that's shakin' in your shoes Someday, you just keep on sayin' Someday, I will find a way to live my dream But there's no guarantee Still, you got hope and your fantasy Hold on, never give up, never give in Stay young and believe in your chance to win Hold on, never give up, never give in Stay young and don't ever betray your dreams Keep on dreaming, keep on scheming Stay fast and young, your time will come Keep on hoping, keep on coping Stay fast and young, your time will come Keep on believing, keep on achieving Stay fast and young, your time will come success. If anyone knows of a source, please let me know.

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/27/2007 12:35:06 PM | Walked a fine line Slipped the edge under me Rise above a suicide and taking it outta me Got a feeling it's going far away Licking the wounds from yesterday
Chorus:
Gonna fly high Taking my time Strip down to nothing Gonna try But there's no rest for the wicked
Been through the skin of a dragon a thousand times Yet everyday I live for you Still I'm not alive Got a feeling I'm gonna fall away Give me a sign One reason that I should stay
Chorus:
Gonna fly high Taking my time Strip down to nothing Gonna try But there's no rest for the wicked Gonna fly high Taking my time Strip down to nothing Gonna try But there's no rest for the wicked
Are you ready to know who I am? Do you think you can make me a better man? Crack me open? Expose me to your ways? But ignorance and arrogance are my ways
No rest for the wicked baby!
Chorus:
Gonna fly high Taking my time Strip down to nothing Gonna try But there's no rest for the wicked Gonna fly high Taking my time Strip down to nothing Gonna try But there's no rest for the wicked

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 2/27/2007 9:25:01 PM | .
While stuck up north because of the snowstorms, I had occasion to visit an area drinking establishment where folks were all having a bit of an active good time. Someone passed an old flattop over to me for a while and, keeping with the clowning around of the room, these are the first two tunes that came out:
Love Potion Number Nine
I took my troubles down to Madame Rue You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth. She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine Sellin' little bottles of … Love Potion Number Nine.
I told her that I was a flop with chics I've been this way since 1956. She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign She said "What you need is … Love Potion Number Nine".
She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink. She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink". It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink ... I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink ...
I didn't know if it was day or night. I started kissin' everything in sight. But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine, He broke my little bottle of . . . Love Potion Number Nine.
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink
. . .
I didn't know if it was day or night. I started kissin' everything in sight. But when I kissed a cop down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine. He broke my little bottle of . . . Love Potion Number Nine. Love Potion Number Nine Love Potion Number Nine Love Potion Number Nine.
Another was the lively, “Let the Little Girl Dance” -- which is also fun in a 1960s sort of way.

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 3/5/2007 4:44:35 PM | Ohh Guster is a phenomenal band! "Either Way" -Guster
You were almost kind, you were almost true Don't let me see that other side of you You have learned in time that you must be cruel I'll have to wait to get the best of you Poison in everything you said Don't you, don't you? Wonder what difference does it make......Either way You were almost kind, you were almost true Why give away that other side of you Happens every time, so it must be true Step on a kid, he'll grow up hating you Poison in everything you said Don't you, don't you Wonder what difference does it make....Either way Were you ever kind, were you always cruel? Who's ever seen that other side of you? Happened every time, so it must be true? Where did you learn it's either him or you? You were almost kind, you were almost true Don't let me see that other side of you You have learned in time that you must be cruel I'll have to wait to get the best of you Poison in everything you said Don't you, don't you? Wonder what difference does it make......Either way

| Describe yourself in a song Posted: 3/26/2007 3:12:55 PM | After reading all those lyrics I've never heard of, I guess I am definately too old to be here! You may not know this one; it's only part of one of Stephen Sondheim's from Follies:
I'm still Here!
Good times & bad times, I've seen 'em all and my dear, I'm still here. Plush velvet sometimes, sometimes just pretzels & beer, But I'm here. I've stuffed the dailies in my shoes, Strummed ukules, sung the blues, Seen all my dreams disappear, But I'm here. . . . . . .
