Wow. U.S. corporate media must be proud of themselvs right now. Nevermind that the vast majority of your post is off-topic, it's chalk-full of lies that even the administration no longer tries to foist on the public; WMD found in Iraq indeed. And reported in the public news, no less. Uh huh.

And people that know some of these things, are reluctant to speak about them lest they are forced to commit suicide like Vince Foster was.

If so, then I'm sure you'll be hearing a knock at your door any time now....

A mere Lt doesn't know squat, and he apparently thinks he's smarter than the collective US government, or the military.

I haven't seen it printed anywhere that he said he's smarter. More moral, maybe; but not smarter.

Lt. Watada has stated that he set out to educate himself about Iraq when he found out he would probably get deployed there. Among other things, he probably read the report put out by the ISG (Iraq Survey Group), the organization which did a search for WMD in Iraq. They found no evidence of a current, or even recent (at that time) WMD program. Unless you want to argue that your brother, as an SP (a cop/security guard), knows more than they did....

Dude, in all serious: it is time to go back on the meds.

EDIT:

And the administration didn't give up trying to lie

Obviously.

I have spent many, many years in the Middle East, in various countries and know from first hand experience that the people on both sides do not want interferrence from outsiders. They have warred for centuries and will continue to do so, it is their way of life. eg. Your grandfather a thousand times removed killed my relative, and so I must have revenge and so it goes..... it will never stop. I say the good folks/families who want peace and there are many, should leave their country and start fresh where there is more peace and quiet.

I had many friends of all denominations and remained neutral with all, listening and learning. I am considered by many to be a wise, dignified and classy lady in her 50's not 40's, lived there in my 20's and 30's and have kept in touch.

Good Luck to all.

After reading the first posts on this section I was left wondering about those Officers and Men who have been court-martialed for violating the so called "law of War" that each has a duty and obligation to follow. Part of this rule as I understand it is that a soldier is culpable if he follows an unlawful order as well as issuing unlawful orders. I am not a lawyer but did spend time in the Marines and tried not to fall asleep in the classes they taught us Butter Bars about the law of war. Seems like some of those speaking up were not standing up in the rear of the classroom at TBS (the big suck). For those who don't know, in officer school there is a rule that no sleeping through class is allowed. It is encouraged for those who are too bored and sleepy to stand up in order to stay awake. Seems that a few people in this room should stand up and wake up.

Following orders is not a defense, most of Hitler's henchmen as well as Husain's goons were executed because they committed war crimes that they pleaded were a result of loyalty in following orders. Would the Men and Officers involved in the torture and deaths of Iraqi citizens detained at Abu grave be called traitors if they objected to the treatment and torture they observed? Yes they would I believe. In fact, the soldier who first broke the news of this atrocity has been called a traitor and has received death threats from his own....because he was a traitor? Most now call him a hero. Hmmm, Are the soldiers in prison that were simply following orders guilty? According to the UCMJ they were found guilty. The should not have carried out unlawful orders.

I commend Lt Watada for his moral courage for performing his lawful duty to refuse to obey what he feels is an unlawful order. He is no coward by any means. He and everyone else in the Army knows that he would have been a lot safer in Iraq than he is now for speaking out. The spin of him deserting his men is transparent to me. He was simply trying to protect his men. Wonder when it's all said and done, how many in his unit will be charged with committing crimes under the pretext that they were following orders. At this point I don't think the American public will criminalize this war, but I think there is enough reason and facts to make the majority question it. President Bush had one thing right when he once said that it would be a lot easier for him if he were a dictator, he tries in many ways but is far from what truly may be his wishful thinking.

Lt. Watada understands that the Military is governed by the people. What, I wonder, if the majority of American people find that this war is illegal and a new administration decides to court martial the Generals and Privates for issuing and following unlawful orders? Things that make you go hmmmm.....

Wouldn't it be great if our schools had all the money they needed and the Air Force had to hold a bake sale to buy a bomber?

Remember the only reason tou can sit on the internet and become obesse is because you are guarded by people who are willing to do what it takes and if you think for one moment that the aribs would walk up yo you with open arms you need some more crack and just thank that us service man when you see him he gave up more than you will know!

when you decide you want to become a solider you got a big responsibility, you can be asked to do whatever at any time . Can't just sit on your ass and get paid for it and call yourself a solider.

I bet you didn't complain when you were bombing Serbia in 1999 from 10 000 feet in the air . Now that your guys started dying on the ground you want out , well it doesn't work that way . Good thing you didn't try invading my country you would get a serious ass whooping on the ground . You can't even win a war in a desert with guys riding on camels.

Remarkable...Please dont generalize about "liberals" here...Many of us who dont support the war, liberal or not, work directly with soldiers coming back from Iraq....as nurses, mental health therapists, doctors, ministers....Many are also the teachers of the kids of vets who witness domestic violence at home...Theres nothing "cowardly" about bearing witness to a man's nightmares and PTSD and depression and suicidal ideation and drinking and witnessing the deterioration of his marriage....Ive done that for 18 years now..It does rub off on you and you have to take care of yourself.....Many of us have also worked with vets from both Vietnam, Gulf War and WW2..... um, thats YOUR grandfather, great uncle, brother, father, sister, aunt, ect, that the "liberals" have been helping for decades......The "liberals" may have been the ones who intervened when vets wanted to committ suicide, beat their spouse, or drink themselves to death ..Remember that next time you want to bash them...

I don't think you would be able to dehumanize people this way if you really knew them. Look into the eyes of the children in other parts of the world and then tell me if you feel the same.

BTW, where do you think YOU would hide if a much better-equipped invading army descended on your town?

Were we following the Geneva Convention at Abu Garub Mr. Longshore13? How about the secret CIA prisons that did not allow Red Cross access? Guantanamo bay? Red Cross? Geneva Convention? Things that make one go "hmmmmm...." I was and still am, a proud American who served my country as a Marine Officer within THE most deadly fighting force on Earth and I am ashamed at how our country and Bush is getting away with the same things we cried about Russia getting away with in the 50's-through mid 80's. Siberia? Guantanamo? Disappearing activists? KGB-Homeland security? Ring any bells out there? Opps! This is surely being monitored by our secret police so I must be careful about what else I'm thinking about here. I loved marching to the cadence of "left" "right" Left! Seems that I have two left feet these days though....

Wonder why I was not surprised to hear that the Gov't is backing away from its plans on prosecuting this LT? Guess they found a very brave man who stands fast at the beliefs our founding fathers wrote about. And as we used to say in the Marines, "You gotta Love it!!"

Update:

"COURT MARTIAL STAYED BY FEDERAL COURT

Judge Benjamin Settle of the US District Court in Tacoma issued a stay order effective immediately, enjoining the Army from commencing the trial until at least October 26, 2007 or until further order of the court.

'There can be no question that the military judge acted precipitously and abused his discretion.' -- Watada attorney, James Lobsenz, in the motion filed with the Army Court of Appeals, May 15, 2007. "
