Men and cats?
Posted: 5/27/2008 12:35:37 PM

My Blue Front Amazon asks me "Where'd you go?" when I get home from work.......she never says it when I've been home all day on the weekend. She definately knows what it means.

I appreciate the scientific studies, as always in life and health and medicine, but for one, I believe that sciance only goes so far, and then only God exists, and Science will NEVER reach that level. Ever.

Jose' did the same. He's yell at the cat, he'd swear at my dad when my dad swore, he's call out my uncles name when my uncle neede to be tended to(patient at home).

I'm not completely convinced however, that these expressions are truly empathetic or understood by the portrayer.

Maybe a fraction of, but not like you and I.

Otherwise, there would be more than just this Pond (POF), It would be called..."Plenty Of Creatures"

Great point though, and much for me to ponder, thank you.
God Bless,
Scott.

Reciprocated, and agreed unyielding.

Kinda makes me think of growing up on the farm, and seeing how the animals communicate and react to specific weather, that most relied on a "weatherman" for.

Does no one see, than not even the weatherman is close? But watch and listen to mother nature and her children, and they know much that we have yet to recognize or understand/comprehend.

We've veered away from "cats", but I kinda like this subject too...Let's go start a new forum on this. I will gladly follow and be your forum buddy in there.

I am well, and thank you too Brother.

Should I start neglecting him?

Wouldn't matter much to an old Tom like that. He'll go to another of his food bowls and come back around every once in a while to see if you'd feed him for old times sake...

LOL! Maybe that's why she took ME in... I act like an old Tom sometimes...

Sometimes I would pull the laser sight off one of my guns and tease the cats with it. It's a blast to watch a half dozen of them trying to run up the walls...
Or a little kid's fishing pole with something noisy or furry on the line.

::swoon:: I think I'm in love.

LOL.. It was self preservation Hon... I learned a lot about cats though.

You're right about them needing their own kind around. Some of them get a little psychotic if they're only around humans.

They do good until there's about 6 together, apparently that's when the dynamics of the group change and all the spraying starts... constant power struggles after that and you have to start breaking them up into seperate groups.
That's how you can tell if there's a big colony of ferals around... the smell...

And did you know.... A Momma cat teaches her babies to poop by licking their butt after they eat... so when you're bottle feeding them you have to get a warm wash cloth and wipe their little hineys after feeding until they poop... otherwise it just builds up until they die or they let go next time you pick them up.... ... it's disgusting...

I hope none of you ever really need that info...

What a great bunch of folks here, and I must say, after being on this site, and making many female friends, I haven't really corresponded with many men. I feel as though there are those that would make good friends, and I appreciate the tone and openness.

I recall a forum last year where folks were thinking this was torture!

How naive is that?!!! The cat enjoys it immensely, and therefore, the forum is null and void! lol!

Beer is bad for us, but guess what?? I am enjoying it immensely!!

Does this make beer abusive and cruel??

Point set, and a great group gathering here, Welcome Von Eric..Nice to meet you.

Von Eric, that makes me think of Kevin, Kerry and the family....Been awhile.

Von Eric, that makes me think of Kevin, Kerry and the family....Been awhile.

LOL... I was given that nick name by a friend I work with... um..17 years ago. the big dope can't remember names and gives everybody nickname. I was working out a lot then and he thought I looked like Kerry Von Erik... Over the years he's whittled it down to just Von. And he still can't remember my real name.

I remember reading something about using the lasers to play with the cats being bad... buncha BS.... Any time I went near the closet my guns were in they would all gather around, practically begging me to play with them.

Just remembered one of them was a persian, her second cat she got after we met. I was in trouble and bought him for her as a kitten...
He crawled in the dryer just before she turned it on, she didn't see him and got in the shower. She heard the thumps and thought it was a shoe. When he wasn't waiting for her after her the shower she knew he was in there and stopped the dryer. Her screaming woke me up. He was in bad shape, bleeding from mouth and ears and knocked out. I knew his body temp was WAY too high and his little brain was boiling so I wrapped a cold wet towel around him and we took him to the vet. He barely made it. It stunted his growth. He's still alive today but hasn't grown a bit since then.

BUT... that damaged his lungs, so whenever we played I had to stop when he started wheezing and coughing... the other cats knew he was the reason we stopped and some got pissed at him...

Trips me out how much they act like people sometimes. I don't consider myself a cat lover but at least I can understand them to some extent...
If I was going to have another pet... voluntarily... it'd probably be a couple of cats

Well I have a cat or 2 or few but I live on acreage and they help keep the Mice population in check. However I know this one little widow lady turning 80 and she has inside cats which i'd never have yet her house stinks to high heaven and is unhealthy. For me I couldn't live like that. Also when I travel I can sleep easy as I know they can fend for themselves since mine are loose to roam they can find there own meal.

I wasn't big on cats until we adopted one for my daughter. They are great pets. Low maintenance and you don't have to take them for walks or pick up the yard after them. I still like dogs, but they are a lot more work . . .

Laser pointers are da' bomb!

I work with kitties at the local humane society and so many of them love it!
I keep buying new ones to entertain "The Troops."(I think I need to find an outlet for those little button batteries instead...)
They also go for those fishing poles with feathers on the end of the line...

Keep the lights away from their little faces, and what's the problem??

They need their exercise, and I try to get as many little loves going at the same time...
...They don't get to chase a whole lot of flies, crickets, mice, or other critters much in "da Joint," ya know?
I try to get potential adopters (especially the kids) to join in on the fun... They love it!

It is also a great way to wear out those still in that attack-everything-moving (or not!) kittens that keep the nighttime hours an adventure when you want to get to sleep.

I think they should come with every cat adoption!

That is so sad...oh my gawd. And your story reminds me of the most horrible faux pas I ever committed.

When I was about 12, we were all going to the flea market. My mom asked me to fold up the sofa bed that our company had slept on, so I did. The corner wouldn't go down, so I sat on it and bounced up and down several times. Damn thing still wouldn't go down. I just left it as it was and off we went.

When we got home, I couldn't find one of the two remaining kittens from the litter one of our cats had. Yep, that's right...the poor little guy was in the sofa bed. I was absolutely inconsolable, beside myself. To this day, I feel awful when I think about it.

We kept the surviving kitten and named him Lucky.

What if the cat decides to own you? Like mine has me!! :help:

Most of the cats and dogs I've had all of my life, are strays. And now, I find myself with one who mutated into 5!!

I think I know what causes that tho, and once I find homes for her and the kittens, I will be feeding Bratbaby inside from now on!!

I have two cats, I've had cats since I was 7 or 8. I love all animals though, but cats were just what I was able to have since I lived in apartments for a lot of my life until just a few years ago. I sometimes will care about what people think about me, but there are certain things that don't bother me, and make me completely disregard that person's opinions, and one of those issues would be cats. It's just ignorant and arrogant to put someone down, due to their gender, based on what animal they love, take care of, and share their own with.

Hmmm, I've always noticed the opposite. I love cats, but almost every guy I've dated has been more of a "dog" guy. As for me, I'm a dog AND cat person. I say if you don't like cats, you don't have any, though!

Most men prefer dogs.

Dogs are always affectionate.
Dogs need you. They are pets.
Dogs give you uncondtional love.
Dogs can fetch things better.
Dogs are more active.
Dogs look cooler.
Dogs can protect you and will always be by your side.
Dogs are more fun. Thats' why there are dog parks. No such things as cat parks.
Dogs are smarter. Just look at what dogs like border collies can do.Dogs can pull sleds, assist the blind, serve as companions to the sick and herd farm animals. What cat can do that?

When a dog plays with you it's no big deal. When a cat plays with you it's a compliment. Buy it a drink.

Cats are like another independent person who comes around when they want attention or food, etc... They stay with you because they want to be around you, just like humans do.

Ain't that the truth! Dogs give love and affection freely (not a bad thing, mind you) but with a kitty cat, one has to earn it.

You don’t have to pick up a cat's poop, thus disgracing yourself publicly.

Cats only take up a small section of your bed, and provide you with foot warmers for those cold Winter’s nights.

Generally, cats don’t slobber or drool on you.

Cats meow quietly instead of barking loudly, thus no complaints from neighbors.

Cats are self-cleaning ~ and darn good at it!

Cats are portable, cuddly, lap-top companions.

Most cats can be left overnight, or even for days, with no problems and no pee on the floor to come home to.

Cats don’t have “knock-you-over” doggy breath.

Cats are amusing simply because they are so independent and aloof.

Give 'em some catnip, pop some popcorn, and enjoy the show.

Cats know the most important thing in life is sleep, and they make sure to do it often.

Cats are excellent at controlling their emotions.

Cats are more agile than dogs or any other domestic animal.

Cats are self-sufficient, poised, curious, quiet and exceptionally well built, with parts that wear out only with old age.

Dogs come when they're called; cats take a message and get back to you later.

Exactly. Dogs have an ability that humans and cats for the most part don't. The ability to give unconditional love and affection.

I'll concede to cats being better the day they can help the blind and do farm work. Dogs can save your life and fight crime. There's a reason why dogs are considered man's best friend. Cats are so independent that they are basically replacements for people hence the stigma of being a cat lady or cat man.

I like cats but only for their purpose in nature of being outdoors where they belong. A cat is unclean amongst humans in an indoor dwelling period.

It was in fun dude, no need to get pissy and insulting. I happen to love dogs and cats alike. And just for the record, my cat gives me unconditional love.

But hey, if insulting people is what makes you feel good, knock yourself out. Whatever blows yer skirt up.
