Well i have a cat and i hate it,hair everywhere and the damn thing is always clawing the furniature and it seems like it has to hack up a fur ball atleast once a week.I unfortunatly have to keep it becuase it was my grandmothers and she moved into an apartment and i promised to take care of it for her.But i can honestly say that i hate cats, and when and if this damn thing ever dies there will never be another cat in my life.

i have always had cats, my first one was named Kit because i was to young to say kitten. And that cat populated the rest of my farm so now i have an infinite supply of cats. This does not mean i like them all. I let ONE into the house, feed it, listin to it purr when its being pet. All my cats love me because they know if they act like a **** then they can f***k off and go back to the edge of starvation. Its survival of the fittest in the barn with the other big toms.

I like cats because they dont make much noise, yappy dogs piss me off.
But its still gross when they try to impress you by bringing dead critters into the house. lol i have a coupple good stories about thoes.

I have 2 kittens that I got in December and I love them! I don't always have a consistent enough schedule for a dog, although I'd love to have one. I can be gone for an entire day and I just need to be sure to leave plenty of food and water and scoop the litter box when I get back, but they take care of themselves. It's really kind of strange how cats instinctively know to use litter even as a very young kitten from the very moment they get home.

My daughter got married and left the 2 cats here and took the dog! I think I got the better end of the deal, but I miss the daughter!

I'm actually shocked to see this question.... but I can understand - it's not the 'norm'. To be honest, I'm shocked to see how many women have dogs.... now that I don't get, because dogs are 'high-maintenance' - you've got to walk them, they engage in rude behavior (sniffing crotches, humping legs, etc. - a cat will never do that). I also have to agree with DivemasterDan - 'yappy dogs piss me off' (re-watch the classic Seinfeld episode where Elaine, Kramer and Newman kidnap the barking dog).

I can say I've always been a cat person - I like them and they just gravitate to me anyway. That doesn't mean that I don't like dogs, but my natural affinity is for cats. I've had my current cat - a Maine Coon - for 15 years (he's 17 now) and he has been the best companion. I've also found this to be true - people don't entirely understand the relationship with cats because cats will treat their owners either as parents or children. A dog, unless it's been abused, will treat most everyone as their long-lost best friend. Cats are a little more complex.... but ironically, more low-maintenance.... except for the friggin' litter box. Arrrrgggh.

Though I don't have any, I happen to like cats! What's so wrong with that?

They're just practicing taking care of men. (j/k)

I have a dog, a cat, and a c0ckatiel. Love them all, but i actually like the c0ckatiel the best.

I have a Maine Coon, and a short hair and totally relate to these guys. As for macho: who cares a rat's ass how many beer bottles you can break on your forehead?

Love animals, especially cats. Mine were trained to do their business in the flower bed outside, and could come and go as they pleased via a little doggie door. With litter box issues out of the way, just have to feed and water them. Low maintenence. They don't need constant attention, and they like affection, but not too much or too little.

Only catch is you have to learn to respect a cat. If you treat a cat like an object or like a dog, you will get hurt. Can't handle them if they don't want to be handled, just gotta let them come to you on their own time. A cat remembers if you've been good or bad to it, and treats you accordingly in return. A man can learn a lot from a cat.

And they bring gifts - live birds, mice, snakes, frogs, once a rat. Sometimes not alive. When I was younger, parents and I went on a month vacation, had a relative fill the food/water buckets once a week, cat did just fine. Came back to a clean house with the exception of a few mysterious feathers scattered here and there on the carpet.

She informs me that the cat would be less trouble than a dog. That it might go potty on floor 3 times Maximum and that if I toss it in a "Box" it would start using this box.
That is impossible, no animal is that easy to train.

That's how we trained ours. Only took two times, though. Smart critters. Learned to work door handles. Figured that out on their own. We had ours from kittens, though, so they didn't have any bad habits for us to break.

^^^ And yet some of us might consider your cat crapping in OUR flowerbeds or our kids sandboxes and killing the songbirds around our feeders 'bad habits'.

Guess it just comes down to a difference of opinion.

Nah, doesn't happen. I live outside the city, there aren't any other flowerbeds around, even if a cat were inclined to use someone else's. No bird feeders in reach, either. In fact, neighbor cats don't come through our yard very often, but dogs do all the time. If you don't appreciate my assumed cat in your yard, I certianly don't appreciate your dog in mine, causing significantly more damage.

Hey I have a cat and I love the little bastarrd... he is a good friend. People usually find it surprising because I am one of those rough manly men types. Anyone that wants to question my manhood over my cat is welcome to try, and will probably not like what happens next hehe

I wouldn't want to be with someone who has 40 cats and never stops talking about them though. That is kinda weird.

I would love to have a dog... but I just don't have time for one. It just wouldnt be fair.

I just love animals in general.

The fact of the matter is, if you are not home alot then its not fair(to the dog) to have a dog...but cats do ok. I would not have a dog unless someone was at home most of the day. I like dogs AND cats....

Personally, cats freak me out in general. Just the way they sit there...and wait. Always reminds me of a bigger cat waiting to pounce on it's prey. And no, I was never mauled by a cat (maybe in a previous life) - they just trip me out sometimes. Visiting them sure I can handle, but living with one...totally different situation for me at least. I'm thankful my daughter is allergic to cats, otherwise I wouldn't have had a valid reason to not get one when she asked.

Give me a dog any day of the week

Why are you shocked at men having cats? With all the chocking things that men do, this has to be pretty minor. Also -- I should preface my remarks by stating that although I like cats, I don't have any -- having a cat doesn't make a man gay.

Some men don't like cats. Some don't like pets at all. Some don't like cat hair covering everything. But that's no reason to deny all men the possibility of enjoying having a feline companion.

Fo some reason, we grow up with this preconceived notion that women like cats and guys like dogs. Which obviously, is a ridiculous stereotype. However, I *was* under the impression until a few years ago that it seemed the guys who really liked cats were usually more of the bookish, intellectual, artsy, metrosexual, etc etc.. types.

Well I am happy to report that the guy I am now dating is a real "man's man" - plays hockey, plays guitar, loves hard rock music, drives a sporty Acura - but he LOVES CATS!!! And I think my 2 cats know this because they're always all over him when he comes over. He's a cat magnet.

Oh, and he ALWAYS leaves the seat up.. *grumble* doesn't get any manlier than that...

(hope everyone realizes that most of this post was tongue-in-cheek)

Independent, can leave em alone on a whim(for more then a day) and there very affectionate. I also grew up with Kitty cats, which could be the reason!

I like my cats. They're friendly and quiet and don't smell and they make a point of crapping in the garden of the neighbor lady who has that damned yapping dog. Life is good.

Sorry Eaglescry68. I know what its like, I just had to put one of mine to sleep 2 months ago (cancer finally took its toll ). People who don't like pets (of any kind) don't understand just how attached you can get to an animal you've had for many years.

Thank you **Singleguy64**, I had overlooked your post, thank you much.

God Bless

I don't know why you're shocked. I read somewhere that cats have overtaken dogs when it comes to popularity, so obviously more and more men also have cats. I personally love it when a cat purrs. I just like the way cats look.
When cats meow they sometimes sound like babies. The ancient Egyptians revered cats. I wouldn't like it if a woman had too many cats anymore than I would like it if I were a woman and a man had too many cats. One or two cats, I think, is enough.

I prefer cats. Their cleaner, they also don't need to be walked. They are also much more independent. Once my cat dies though I'm not getting another pet for a LONG while. It's just too invasive. Also I don't like waking up at 2 in the morning to my cat barfing on my bed ¬¬. Washing my blankets and sheets at 2 in the morning is not my idea of fun.
