| Men and cats? Posted: 5/17/2007 1:56:58 AM | | I have two cats that I had to leave with my parents when I went away to school. I'll probably have one or both sent up to me once I find another appartment that I want to settle into for the rest of my schooling. It doesn't have anything to do with being gay or straight, lol. | |

| Men and cats? Posted: 5/17/2007 8:30:29 PM | I adore cats. cats are independent, yet loving at the same time. Around when you need them yet not shy about doing their own thing for a day or two.
I can't stand Dogs. dogs are needy to the point of frustration and demand constant attention or they destroy your place.

| Men and cats? Posted: 5/17/2007 9:37:08 PM | OP, Having had a few cats before, My second wife begged to get a cat. While visiting her mom's house for a vacation a cat not of her mom's feral band showed up. I made the mistake of picking it up. Evil Step-daughter let her out side once to many times and we ended up with 10 cats in the house. We pared them down to 7, and I had those 7 for over a year till I found myself moving and I got good homes for the 6 kids.
I still have mom cat. Like others hav said, cats are way cooler than most dogs. Mine sleeps on me and comes running when I call her name. Bandit. Black and white with a black mask and ears it was an easy pick of a name.
Clearly you have been misinformed about the nature of cats and men.

Ya know, its a comment like that, which is going to have some little yappy thing, biting your ass *grins* I'm not a fan of football dogs, as I call them but still.
Real men can admit they own a pet, even if its a goldfish. One of my dear friends, who swears he's a badass biker dude (aww pretty boy biker love ya dear), adores one of my cats.
Real men own big dogs.. sheesh...

I don’t have a cat but like them. We had an old worthless hair bag witch cat that lived to about 22 years old.
My ****************LITTLE*********************** dog went into mourning when that old worthless cat died.
I have some fish too.
Little dog and fish ...... you don’t like that? .... bite me lol.

| Men and cats? Posted: 5/19/2007 6:17:20 PM | | I've had dogs and it was just too much work and they are high maintenance. For my life style , my cat is perfect as I can be away for the whole day or day and a half and she's OK with it. She was a stray and has turned out to be a great pet. I wouldn't do the dog thing again. | |

| Men and cats? Posted: 5/19/2007 9:23:53 PM | There's an old old stereotype about men preferring dogs and women preferring cats.
If you had to trace it to something real, it might be that as pack animals, dogs are perfectly happy to follow the man out to his farming, blacksmithing, hunting, etc. Cats are homebodies, so they would be around all the time for the woman doing cooking, cleaning, and other household things. So each animal's instincts happen to neatly dovetail with the traditional male and female roles.
My own cutie is a battle cat! Check him out at http://kittenwar.com/kittens/37090/ . (Of course, he's all grown up, but still has the kitten face...)

She's my pretty girl!!! (and yes, I talk like this to her....and when there's other people around)

| Men and cats? Posted: 2/5/2008 6:10:56 PM | I didn't know where to put this. So I guess this is the perfect place.
I was not ever a cat person. Even after the fact 14 years ago. My daughter won a photo contest and won a damn cat. OK bare with me. The cat was cool and I started to admire his skills. He caught so many birds and he would just leave them on my steps. As he got older he brought me home rabbits. One day there was a bat. I don't know how he got a bat he just did. He would hang in the trees . So anyway, he was part of the family. He would love his cat nip and I swear he got high on it. I would kid around with my neighbors about vermin control that there where no mice or anything small running around this neighborhood. And they owe me some pest control fees. So as time goes on and he gets older. Just last year or so he is having complications. And I always did always get his shots and stuff. But now all of a sudden he needs enema's. So at $125.00 a pop he had three. I just felt it was my job to do what I could. The doctor did them not me. The cat was on metamucil these last couple of months. The cat needed fiber like some of us lol. But the reason I am even bringing this up. I took him to the vet because he really looked bad and not able to walk right all of a sudden. Seems I learned tonight his kidneys went and he has a day or two left. I never thought that this would ever bother me. Its just a cat right. But it does. The cat is as old as my son. The cat is even in pictures in our photo albums. So As I write this and he lays on the floor just resting. I thought I would get him high one last time. But he didn't even want the cat nip. So I guess there are men that care for cats because I am one of them.
Oh his name is ......Symbia........named him from the movie Lion King way back when.

They are never just cats, they are part of the family. I had a cat that died of kidney failure as well, Ashley he was 12. You should take him to the vet and have him put down, don't wait it out. If you are able stay in the room with him, please try. He will know you were there long after he is gone and so will you.
|
| Men and cats? Posted: 2/5/2008 6:44:35 PM | Thanks Mizbex
I called my daughter and she wanted him home. My cat never liked the vet its a cold steel place. I just felt it would be best for him to be comfortable going in a place where he knows. I talked with the Vet and he said there is no pain with this. They just fall asleep basically. I am with him and I am watching him every so often and petting him.

| Men and cats? Posted: 2/5/2008 7:12:15 PM | Part of my affection for cats is due to my having grown up with them. My parents had cats starting around the age of 7 for me and I've had cats for almost all my life since. I have found cats to be as varied in personality as people. My current fuzzball is the most affectionate one I've ever owned. He's a boy and he doesn't scratch things up, nor does he pee everywhere. He's a bit weird, but that just makes him more fun and unique in my book.
Another reason I like cats has to do with their ancestry. They're one of nature's most well designed hunters. Fast, flexible and able to hunt alone or in packs. For those who think cats are too "girlie" (though I feel that's outdated) watch a cat hunt some time. They're nowhere near as domesticated as dogs and still retain many of their feral instincts.
What I find fascinating about this thread is how portions of it (at least in the first few pages) turned into a cat vs. dog thing. I personally love dogs too, I just don't have the time to dedicate to one. They need more attention than cats, they need to be walked and they need a good chunk of room (at least the kinds I want do). For the record if I ever get dogs it will be a German Shephard and a Malamute - they're simply stunning animals.

| Men and cats? Posted: 2/5/2008 8:00:11 PM | hmmmmm,, why would somone (love )a needy dog that obeys his master?????

My Basset Hound went that way. I brought her home and sat with her on the floor until she was gone. It was a lot easier for her than it was for me.

Dude, you're completely over compensating for your own LACK of masculinity.
I was raised on a farm and still farm. Cats have always been a helpful part of controlling rodent populations and they're cute. And my barn cats are very comfortable with the dog and horse. They're totally worth having if they're friendly enough.
