I have a cat also.
My nephew's SO got a couple of kittens for their kids to grow up with but 3 months down the line their youngest developed a rash so the cats had to go.
I'd been thinking about getting a dog but being out at work all day wouldn't have been very fair so the cat was the perfect compromise.

It is nice to have another soul greet you when you come home, even if it is because they want feeding

A guy having a cat is gay? Wow, that is a new one.

Maybe this is part of the trend of people (started with younger people but more and more are doing it as well) saying anything they don't think is cool or do themselves is "gay"?

I guess they don't realize when they speak like this, they sound ignorant and short sighted. But then again, someone who is open minded and worldly is "gay" too I guess. Reminds me of that movie Idiocracy where every single dumb@ss in the future thought everything the guy from the past said was being a "fag", pretty damn funny. Can we say their ignorance is showing?

I have a stray that adopted me so to speak. When the neighbors moved out, he decided to move one house over. Freaking bum cat.

He's old, missing some teeth and just a mess. And even though I really didn't plan on him being around, I've come to accept him. When he hears me wake up in the morning, he'll wait at my door for food. And when I come home at night, he greets me with a bunch of meows and of course, wants to be fed again. At least someone is waiting on me.

Should I start neglecting him?

I have kids, there fore I am stuck with cats.

I never wanted a cat, at least in the house. My ex let my oldest daughter have a cat, problem was , the silly thing adopted me, wouldnt go near anyone else. So when the ex moved out, daughter a couple years later, I was stuck with her.

Then the same daughter, plans on going to England for a month. I got the old, Dad, can you watch my kitten, just for a month ? I promise thats all it will be. Well, like an idiot, I said ok. She goes to England, ends up staying there for 12 months, silly cat "adopts " me, and now I am stuck with the 2 of them. If only I could get a woman to adopt me the way animals do, lol, ( hehehhe then she could clean the litter )

They do kind of grow on you I admit, but still would rather have a dog.

No. You should either find the poor thing a home or take it to an animal shelter.

I adopted a stray twelve years ago, personally... just noticed the starving, pregnant(!) cat coming around all the time and took her inside. She's so beautiful, now... I just woke up from a nap on the sofa and she was cuddling my head with her front paw up around my neck, purring away. I honestly don't know what I would have done without her, what with all the ups and downs I've had over the years.

I love cats! But only one at a time, its the people who have more than one and have no other people they interact with that are creepy.

Awesome point and post...I like that. Bratbaby is all I have, and she (Manx) has been through a lot with me. I was devastated when Moonbeam (BB's kitten of 5 yrs) got caught by a dog. She was almost human, with 4 paws and a full time fur coat!! :glow:

Bratbaby won't come inside anymore, but she awaits my arrival home from work, and she is at the end of the driveway waiting as soon as I turn the corner 500 ft away. :run:

:help:

OMG Dude!! You ain't kiddin'!!! My Aunt Mercky LOVED her cats!! I think more than a couple as daily life, owning 37 has GOT to be somewhat borderline p-u-s-s-y obsessive!!!

Woops!! Did I say that right?? :laughl:

We would go see her, and there were cats every-freakin-where!!!! :help:

On the kitchen table, coffee table, bathtub, bed, porch, car, fridge(top ) and seemingly coming out of the walls!!

This would have been a great place to go and hang with buddies, some beer and shrooms!!! :peace:

Sorry, I digress! lol!

Cats are great creatures. I have a stray momma and poppa, and 4 kitties, so if anyone would like a kitten, please do!! I can't afford to feed myself, let alone, 7 cats...

Again....:drinking:

Great post!! Love it!!

God Bless,
Scott.

Yes, I think I have seen that. Too funny.

Eagle, I'm an animal lover. I love dogs and cats alike. I love bunnies, guinea pigs, cows, dolphins, sea lions, cheetahs, raccoons, mules, eagles, chinchillas....you name it, I love it. Well, except for insects and some reptiles. But all in all, I love animals. I grew up around cats and dogs, but in my adult life I've lived primarily where I could have cats and not dogs.

There's a great website I found recently with a plethora of questions and answers regarding feline behavior. I'll have to find it again....

Cats are great for comic relief. They can give you something to pet other than a woman when you're just chillin'. But more than one and theres a problem.

OMG, kitties on kitty crack, erm, catnip...is hilarious in a belly laugh kinda way.

But more than one and theres a problem.

Oh no, no, noooo. You have to have two so they each have a playmate. Cats need mental stimulation and regular (kitty oriented) physical activity. The entire reason I got my second one was so my first one would have a friend, playmate, and companion. Unless you give your kitty every single thing a kitty needs for a healthy life (which would be quite labor intensive, IMO) you need to get him or her a friend.

I was recruited to help catch the ferals, build holding pens, clean 6 litter boxes twice a day, give rabies shots, and flea/tick meds, cleaning ear mites out of thier furry little heads, bottle feeding abandoned litters, transporting them to and from the vet's office...
I went through more leather gloves catching injured cats than I did welding, and I did a LOT of welding back then.

::swoon:: I think I'm in love.

Same here. I grew up on a farm in upstate New York, and we had everything! Cows, Goats, Geese, Ducks, Horses, Brahma, Angus, Peacocks/hens, cats, dogs, chikkins, you name it!!

I tend to appreciate and love all animals, and look at them and treat/respect them based on what I believe to be their own individual intellect and type. Cohabitation at it's best!

raccoons, mules, eagles, chinchillas....you name it

She said Eagles!!

Every cat and dog that I have had since leaving the farm, has been a stray. I have found at many times in life, I've had a farm all over again, but mostly dogs and cats. With an occasional Iguana and or Gerbil etc.!

Im shocked at your question, do you think only gay guys have cats? I have a cat who i love like she was a member of my family. You know why, she IS a member of my family.

Men do like cats and like women with cats unless your talking about the stereotypical catlady as seen in the simpsons.

***Epicload*** Keep in mind that this was posted over a year and 1/2 ago. I have followed this thread ever since. I am seeing that stereotypical attitude towards men and cats has changed drastically since.

And yes, a lot of people think men should have a dog, how naive is that?

One guy said "Real men have dogs, and drive a pickup, and Blah blah blah"

Haven't seen him since!!

Lumbered???

I think I have learn to appreciate cats even more, since I love to camp and be away for days at a time when possible, so their food lasts and I don't have to worry about them like I would a dog.

I never trust someone who HATES cats...

Cats are like another independent person who comes around when they want attention or food, etc... They stay with you because they want to be around you, just like humans do.

People who don't like cats (unless they avoid them because they are simply allergic) seem to have little patience for those who don't kiss their butts all day long in worship like dogs will do for a little bit of approval.

Cat-haters also lack the give and take of sensuality, and that is a total turn-off, even in a friend.

I love dogs, too but I, myself, AM a cat.
If you don't like cats, you won't like me. Period.

I'm a bird person...tho I like cats, too (all animals, really). The two are kind of mutually exclusive tho, unless the feline friend has been raised from kittenhood to be cool around birds.

Then it can be a blast! I had a GF (bird person, too) who would bring her cat over on weekends just to play w/ my two parrots. Wow, the 3 of them would just create the biggest ruckus you've ever seen. Nothing as funny as two birds chasing a cat around the house....

Thankfully, they still have 'visitation' rights.

That's kewl! Nice reading, I like that.

I had an African Grey Congo when I was younger, and his name was Jose'. He would tease the cat somethin' fierce, and the cat would even paw at him gently, but would never hurt him. Cohabitation exists among most of the cohabitants, without even being taught sometimes. Love finds a way to make this possible, and I for one, believe animals feel emotion. Not the same consciously as you and I, but dern close to it. Then again, they feel something we don't, for they do not have the verbal context that we do, as they are limited to tones and volume for their communication.

Another great post!!

Keep em coming folks, you're awesome!!

There is some pretty convincing evidence to the contrary (with a Grey, no less). When they start to put it together two words to creat a new 'correct' third meaning you have to start to wonder.

My Blue Front Amazon asks me "Where'd you go?" when I get home from work.......she never says it when I've been home all day on the weekend. She definately knows what it means.
