| Where does one go to meet people?

You gotta kinda fade into the background if you're alone (if you don't want to be, like, barmeat) but it's cool. You can still have a life. It sucks going places by yourself. I know because I've just lived in my town for not too long..or school to meet people...or get a set of drums like i did and just do your own thing....hmm..or myspace...or here? | |

People design meetups for just about anywhere and everywhere that have specific interests and meet about once a month. Type in your zip code and see. I'm in two anime groups one here in OC and another in LA where I've met some great people and made some solid friends. Also in a sewing meetup and a makeup one. There is all sorts of interest groups on there and if they don't have something you can create your own by setting up an event/meeting place/interest. It's a lot of fun, I was really excited when I found the site and got to meet new people, so check it out ;) good luck! | |

The list can go on and on!!!!! Life is what you make it and you can always find places to meet people if you make the effort or google a bit. Good Luck...  | |

Tried that. It was fun but it wasn't a good way to meet anybody. Since I can attract anybody with my looks I have to use conversation. But with a great band is playing there's there's no way to talk. | |

As far as the Meetup.com proposal...I was wondering how that worked out? I have been to the site a few weeks ago..I was wondering how it's worked out for others before I considered investing in starting up a group, so this is pretty cool..... | |

In my area, salsa is huge, and there are lots of very friendly people of all ages learning it. I'll bet that's true in San Jose too. Try looking for salsa classes at a junior college or Y or adult ed or community rec center or at your own school. Also...try yoga. Lots of young women and very cool men are in yoga classes. And even if you don't meet someone right away, you will have learned to dance and do yoga, which will benefit you in lots of ways from now on. Also hang out in Barnes & Noble. Or if you like the outdoors, join the Sierra Club..they have loads of great outdoor activities, some for young adults like you. And avoid the barscene as much as possible. A relative of mine always met her boyfriends in bars and then wondered why they had drinking/drug problems. Good luck! | |

UCSD? SDSU? I met lots of people when I was at UCI. In fact I met my ex-wife there. College is the best place to meet people at your age unless you're a premed ;) | |

People are the same way. Don't do anything out of the ordinary to meet people. You have the chance to do so in your everyday normal routine. I'm sure everyone sees one or two people on a daily basis with whom they'd love to shoot the ish with, but don't. For whatever reason.
Iunno. I'm just saying don't go out of your way. Stay in your lane, and you'll catch up to the traffic.  | |

LOL! I sure nailed that one. Yes, it's very competitive and I completely understand why college isn't very social for you. Hang in there and try to enjoy school where you can. Don't let the other premeds get you down. | |

I was looking for a hiking group so I could get out to the less-used trails safely and not only found that, but a movie going group (I was missing them all as I hate going alone), karaoke group, ski group, board game group and general "hey let's go out and have fun" group. My problem now is WHICH activity to do each night. I've yet to "meet" anyone at these, but some of these groups are terribly weighted with many more women then men! A good thing to the poster of this thread :)
In the hiking group we have a ton of college students and ages range from 19-mid 50s easily. I can't say enough good about the meetup groups. | |

Posted: 3/21/2007 9:41:55 PM | Get involved with an activity in your area, or a group, be a volunteer,activist...lol. like green peace/save the dolphins/surfrider foundation. Do something to help the community and you'll be surprised at all the people you'll meet.
