| Bay City area Meet & Greet FEB. 17th Posted: 1/15/2007 6:17:46 PM | Events like these never have to be disasters. If even a fraction of the people show up we can all still have a great time. The pain and suffering comes from people that put up a lot of their own money, time, and sweat organizing these things and get screwed when the event doesn't turn out the way they want.
If it was me, I'd settle on a place and time and leave it at that; let people pay their own way---no freebies. Like beachbaby said, don't put yourself on the line for people you've never met and know practically nothing about. There will always be people that show zero courtesy and bail out for selfish reasons, so don't enable them.
Re. the GR's Meet, I feel for ya, Matt. Here's hoping our Feb event will turn out much better.

| Bay City area Meet & Greet Posted: 1/16/2007 6:33:09 AM | Completely agree with cos's view above, and thanks for the well wishes, Lisa.
MORE HOTEL INFO….
Well, I just made a reservation at the Fairfield Inn about 1.43 miles north of the restaurant (at least according to Yahoo Maps...lol). If you want to book here's the link:
http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/MBSBC
The room was $80 for the night, not bad for the proximity and the included amenities.
There's actually a hotel literally within walking distance of the restaurant, Perry's Grand Arlington Hotel, but I can't seem to find anything about them on the net: no pics, room information, or pricing? I tried calling them this morning and the phone just rang, no one picked up and no business answering machine kicked in. A little too mysterious if you ask me....lol.
I also went to the link cos provided, and assume he means the Doubletree across the river. I found this message on the hotel's first page:
"Please be aware there will be road construction and a detour to our hotel beginning January 8, 2007. Please see "Detour Directions and Map" link under Features & Highlights below."
I'm always a little leery about traveling to a new place and have to worry about road construction, but it is close. It's also $20 more than the Fairfield Inn. It all comes down to what you want.

| Bay City area Meet & Greet Posted: 1/16/2007 11:39:10 AM | | Hey Motown...just a little FYI from my "memory"...LOL The Arlington was at one time a hotel...long time ago...it has remained with the name... The Arlington Hotel..but anytime I have ever been in there...it's not a hotel...it's a bar....very old too..old bar..old wood floors..and the area you walk into from the outside...it's like you are actually walking into the lobby area of a hotel...the stairs only went so far up and then they were blocked off by a wall put up. I think to be honest...the upstairs access is from the other side of the building and is apartments. The whole place to me looks like something that would belong on Mackinaw Island. But you made a good choice in what you reserved. | |

| Bay City area Meet & Greet Posted: 1/16/2007 3:10:31 PM | Thanks for the info, DeeAnne. I did finally find some pics of The Arlington, and they were all of a bar, not a hotel. I wish they'd rename it so people like me won't get confused...lol.
Maybe some of us more intrepid folks can walk around and check it out, along with the other nightlife.

| Bay City area Meet & Greet Posted: 1/16/2007 5:45:10 PM | | Yes...you'll have to check it out for sure if you can...let me put it to you kinda in this way...Bay City is known for "Midland Street"...lot's of bars/pubs....if you or anyone has ever been in the military and they reference going to...Bar Row??....well....Bay City has it's own...Bar Row...it's called....Midland Street. | |
|
| Bay City area Meet & Greet Posted: 1/16/2007 11:14:35 PM | Been a long time since I've been to Midland Street ... but I hear only fun about it now...just never have anyone to go with me...so this sounds like fun! And its definitely time for me to start some living! Kids are grown and its time for me now!
And really shouldn't it be all about just meeting people in general and making new friends? Take the worry and stress out of the situation of trying to meet "the one" for you...and go with an open mind...to meet people just as people not as a man or woman or how old or young?
Seriously...I cannot see me walking into a meeting like this and actually meeting "MY" perfect man...and I would really rather go and feel comfortable enough to be able to sit down and talk with anyone in the room...male or female!
You may not go home having met the man or woman of your dreams...but you could go home having made some new friends...and friends are "priceless"! Afterall...who will you vent to later? Who will be there for you when you are feeling down? Who is it really that will be there for you no matter what? When youre or or or or just need a little
you got it! your FRIENDS!!!

| Bay City area Meet & Greet Posted: 1/17/2007 2:21:13 AM | Yeah Wildflower, I am planning on going!!! It'll be cool to meet you finally. You need to get OI81B4U out of his cave and make it down to Midland st. Shyness is not my weakness , so if You need a shoulder....I have 2.
I would never turn down an opportunity like this. To meet new friends, listen to some smooth jazz and for those who dare... a fine humidor.
I'm looking forward to it!!!!

That is my favorite bar and my friends and I go there about once a week! I would be glad to come to the party on the 17th and I will bring my two single girlfriends with me! Their martinis are to die for I would recommend the Strawberry Passion, Red Lace Panty and the Flirtini if anyone wants to try one. See ya on the 17th!
