| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/22/2007 2:37:20 PM | I love how this whole thing is being justified. You get women in for free, more people will gravitate to that location, and that location makes money. So in the simplest terms, you're club just wants to make more money.
How about we reinstate slavery...it's the same basic concept. You have "employees" that don't get paid and the company makes more money. It might be somewhat of an odd twist, I'm still showing how the ends justifies the means.

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 8:08:49 AM | They should be illegal ....when we have pay and pricing equity..
Women pay more than men at the dry cleaner for the same item of clothes..( ever see the sign..men's shirts $6 women's shirts $10?) They pay more for haircuts of the same length of hair. Women's shoes cost more than mens'..The list is just endless..
As women are usually still earning more than a quarter less than men.. this one thing dsn't come anywhere near addressing the inequitties.
|
| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 8:26:07 AM | Don't want to pay more for stuff than men?.......quit buying it then. If women wouldn't pay more you wouldn't get charged more. Women care more about their clothes, shoes, and hair than men.
When customers stop buying, businesses either drop prices or go out of business.

Ahah ok I will stop buying shoes,,cutting my hair and dry cleaning my clothes. this should go over well on the social circuit..!
Look for me! I'll be the smelly one, with the bird's nest and bare feet! heheh.. I think not.

didn't say stop buying those things....I said stop buying from folks who charge differently based on gender. The above quote kind of illustrates my point though......think any men care what their image on the "social circuit" is? And don't say it's mens fault that you have do all this too look good.....you all do it to impress other women...not men. We don't care about that stuff. If we're attracted to you, you could wear a garbage bag and snowshoes on a date with us and we wouldn't care. We don't look at other men and whisper"can you believe he wore those shoes with that blouse?"
Not sure what your problem is w/ Ladies Night, judy.....with all the discrimination towards women you pointed out I would think that women getting a freebie where men have to pay would appeal to you.

Basically they All do it I have never been to any dry cleaned or hair dresser that doesn't..next time you are in one look around. it is standard practice.I would no tbe bale to find one that dsn't ..I never said it was "men's fault" I do this...I fix my hair and dress bcz I like how I feel when I do..feel more attractive And to also attract men..Plus less face it, it is the social norm. While men may not be As concerned with every "fashion rule", plenty make an effort in thier appearance when they go out and I for one appreciate it; as to the garbage bad and snow shoes..uh huh Yeah, right. hehheh Not me but thanks..I guessif men really have a problem with ladies night..they could boycot as well.
Not sure what your problem is w/ Ladies Night, judy.....with all the discrimination towards women you pointed out I would think that women getting a freebie where men have to pay would appeal to you. I do not have a problem with ladies night ..My point is that there are many inequities in the other direction..I do not go to that type of thing much but even if I did it wouldn't come anywhere near balancing the financial scales. Some (i said some) men rail that this is discrimination bcz they have to pay more for thier drinks in this one instance..Don't hear many railing about pay inequity ot the examples I mentioned.. Now let's compare who spent what in products and such getting ready to go out..eegads
|
| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 1:48:18 PM | I just want to go out and have a good time...oh wait...I haven't been out in a LONG time...why? Because I have to WORK...nothing discriminatory in that...I don't mind paying for my way in (when I am allowed a show of the naked dancing men, that is)...I don't mind paying for my drink...'cause I KNOW in advance that I have to do these things...guys don't seem to mind the cover charge when they think they might get lucky...
That guy has been pissed from the moment his wife left him...funny he never felt it before. Who knows, maybe he was going out to those ladies' nights to get away from the wife and get lucky, or maybe the local strip joint down the street...either way, I don't care. He's just another whiner.
|
| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 1:53:14 PM | Here's my issue with the whiny men and Ladies Night and your position, judy. Nobody makes the guys go to the bar to pick up women....don't want to pay more...stay home...it's a free country. Noone forces you to go a dry cleaner. If you want to pay the same as a man for a haircut, go to a barber. If you want atmosphere and potpourri and little waterfalls while you get a cut, go to a salon and pay more.
"as to the garbage bad and snow shoes..uh huh Yeah, right. hehhe"
Maybe i'm old school, but i thought the person was more important than the clothes.
Bottom line is the salons, the dry cleaners, and the bars are private businesses and they should be able to set prices however they see fit. If you don't like them don't go....but don't spoil the fun of the many, many men and women who enjoy these nights and really don't care if they are being discriminated against.
If you want to go all Gloria Steinem on everybody....find something discriminatory with a little more gravitas than "my shoes cost more than a man's"

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 4:19:27 PM | | OMG the following post quoted isn't even close: ""How about we reinstate slavery...it's the same basic concept. You have "employees" that don't get paid and the company makes more money. It might be somewhat of an odd twist, I'm still showing how the ends justifies the means."" Guys and gals go to a bar of their own free will whenever they want and the owners set up such nights without restrictions for the most part....... how is that even comparible to slavery???? | |
|
| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 6:33:41 PM | . Noone forces you to go a dry cleaner. there Are some clother that are dry clean only..and the barbers do mens hairstyles ..Not women's
Maybe i'm old school, but i thought the person was more important than the clothes. Oh please.. what you wear and how a person takes care of thier appearance is part of who the person is..

The ironic part is that if you go back and read I defended that "ladies' night " exist..though for different reasons that you..so we actually agreed.
If you consider pay equity some "outrageous feminist agenda" I'd guess it might be bcz you benefit from it not exsiting. My point was that women in general pay more for Many things and earn less to begin with... and so ladies nights are no big deal.
|
| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/23/2007 6:40:33 PM | | I agree with Marita B on this one...so what if ladies get charged less for one nite a week! They are paid less daily for the same job as men, most have custody of their children since the divorce rate is more than 1/2 of all marriages in this country...so they really don't get off too cheap now do they? Not to mention they do pay more for certain things like car repairs if they haven't a clue about cars....even steven baby! | |

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/25/2007 1:17:42 PM | Sometimes I pull my head out of the sand, look around, and notice that the world isn't fair. A car salseman will sell a car to one person at one price, and sell an identical car to a different person at a different price. Left handed people have difficulty finding scissors that work for them and often have to pay more when they find them. People get beaten up in the street because they look "different".
Come on, people! Left handed scissors are in short supply and we are worrying about what drinks cost at the bar???

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/25/2007 6:48:03 PM | The last time my friends and I went out to Toronto we called ahead to get our names placed on a VIP list at a popular night club.. you had to be there before ten o'clock to get in ahead of the line.
Now in Toronto... that's early so we went for dinner first and then headed in a cab for the club. We arrived at ten past ten.. the line up went all the way down the street and they wouldn't let us in.
We had travelled 60 miles to go there for my girlfriends birthday it was her night so it was her choice. It was absolutely freezing that night and us women had worn skirts and heels for dinner and dancing. There is no way we could stand there in the freezing cold like that for a couple hours to get in. Nor were we about to.
So being a gentleman her husband suggested we stand aside while he and the guys we were with went and talked (cash in hand) to the doormen.
They were flat out refused and told no exceptions even though we had been on this list.
As we walked away disappointed heading for another club we'd never heard of.... I couldn't help but think...
If us girls had done that and the guys stood back.. I bet we would of gotten in!!!
(Never been back though!)

What about men's night out?
You do not need mens night out to attract men to a bar. You need ladies to attract men to a bar. So men's night out will never happen. Why would any one even care? I think people have to much time on their hands.

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 1/27/2007 2:12:18 AM | | on the surface it seems like discrimination. why should i pay when girls don't have to. but if you look at the effect of it, it makes perfect sense. most guys go to clubs to look for girls. as a former club manager i know the key was to get guys in the club. doing that meant making sure they had as much visual stimulation as possible. any successful club and any happy male club goer knows that attracting females makes a club go. therefore, it is essential to get the girls in at any cost (or no cost). guys may ****, but turn clubs into sausage fests and nobody will be happy. keep the government out of what the clubs want to do to make their clubs successful. | |

To grant special prices because one has a p@ssy is just wrong. People can not control their biological make up and these establishments are unethical to make a buck out of discrimination . No excuse for it.

I always thought DUI people should be locked up on site w/ a min of 90 days. Too many ppl. are getting killed/maimed because some alky swereved just enough so that the passenger hit the tree and not the driver ...........or worse. I watched a car do a rollover on my HS graduation.........the sound of crunching metal as the bodies bounce inside.......it was if time sort of slowed like in a movie.....frame by frame........unbelievable.

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 12/29/2007 4:51:14 AM | I don't really have a problem with ladies nights but if push came to shove, you know, the guy IS right about it being discriminatory. Is there a men's night somewhere ? Is there a day when men can go to the bar without paying a cover charge or paying less for their drinks while the women have to pay full price? It's rather funny in a way to watch this thread develop because it provides a fair bit of evidence for the assertion that modern feminism isn't about equality but about privileges. If it was the other way around you'd all be screaming bloody murder.
Incidentally, as for the myth that women make less than men for doing the same work...well, now there are studies coming out telling us what we've known for a while : you don't make less because you're women. You make less because of the work you CHOOSE to do. When I start seeing women applying for jobs en masse as construction workers carrying rebar and mixing concrete then I'll rethink my position. Until then I defy anybody to tell me why a cashier should be making the same amount of money as somebody perched on a steel I-beam twenty stories up welding girders in place.

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 12/29/2007 5:17:44 AM | forget the fact the man is bitter, forget that men probably dont mind it. its a simple matter of discrimination. you are not legally allowed to disciminate services offered due to sex, age, race, disability, religion.
if you charge more for men than women against the law,if you charge more of a certain age groups than the others or if you prefer a white club crowd than a black gangsta crowd. all against the law.
yea some men ignore the law because its serves our purpose. but imagine if the same was said about sexual assault cases and how if i was to say if any woman was hit on by her boss she sees it as a viable escuse to sue the company into the ground. i will get quite favorable results from many a men who have been in this situation and negative biting remarks from woman who feel that i am taking the situation lightly
were do you draw the line? when they bring up SKINNY LADIES NIGHT and put up a scale and height measurement to calculate your BMI? or makeout with the with the creepy club owner at the door and get free drinks? ignoring discrimination because it suits you is the good old slippery slope. it is real and wherever it is should be duly stamped out.
now lets get drunk | |

| Should Ladies Night at the bars be illegal? Posted: 12/29/2007 5:54:48 AM | It seems to me that the guy doesn't really care about ladies nights as such, he is just using their existence to highlight that discrimination laws merely re-arrange discrimination and not necessarily in a way that benefits society.
The argument that men don't have to go to such bars with gender-based pricing can be restated as women don't have to do jobs if they don't like the gender-based pay, and restated in every other scenario as well.
I agree with Ryan (rp1973), lets just get rid of the discrimination laws, all of them. My view is that they create victims for people who need a cause, encourage governent to meddle in areas where it has no competence, and they are not an effective way of resolving disharmony and conflict.
