It's Little Willy, by Sweet.
Little Willy, Willy wears the crown, he's the king around town Dancing, glancing Willy drives them silly with his star shoe shimmy shuffle down Way past one, and feeling alright 'Cause with little Willy round they can last all night Hey down, stay down, stay down down
'Cause little Willy, Willy won't go home But you can't push Willy round Willy won't go, try tellin' everybody but, oh no Little Willy, Willy won't go home
Up town, down town Little Willy, Willy drives them wild with his run-around style Inside, outside Willy sends them silly with his star-shine shimmy shuffle smile Mama done chase Willy down through the hall But laugh, Willy laugh, he don't care at all Hey down, stay down, stay down, down
'Cause little Willy, Willy won't go home But you can't push Willy round Willy won't go, try tellin' everybody but, oh no Little Willy, Willy won't go home
Little Willy, Willy won't Willy won't, Willy won't Little Willy, Willy won't Willy won't, Willy won't Little Willy, Willy won't Willy won't, Willy won't Little Willy, Willy won't Willy won't, Willy won't
Little Willy, Willy won't go home But you can't push Willy round Willy won't go, try tellin' everybody but, oh no Little Willy, Willy won't go home

Subservient, Walk all over me, better then: Stand By Your Man. That song makes me cringe
Subservient? No! It preaches LOYALTY and SUPPORT. There is no reason a woman should not stand by her man. Equally, there is no reason a man should not stand by his woman.

The song that speaks of subservience of women is the song by Dusty Springfield- "Do your hair, just for him......." Nothing like changing yourself to suit your man. How false is that? I think the name of the song is "Wishing and Hoping".

Changing herself? She is just primping and doing things her man would like because she loves him, and wants to please him. I seem to remember that that was what love was all about.

Yes, you want to make a good impression and make your date/other feel good, but there comes a point when you bend so far over that you lose yourself. What would start out as a woman wearing her guy's favorite hairstyle, then if she is not strong in her own identity, or is a codependant personality, she could stop thinking independantly. Especially, if the combination includes a man who is domineering and likes to tell his woman what to wear, how to wear her hair, and then if she gains some weight. It could lead to eating disorders for the woman. These two personality types together as a couple is dangerous.
The point is that 2 people should naturally have things in common, but one of the party should not change their likes and dislikes just to please the other person. It's a blurred line that is highly arguable.

I think it's a lot more straight-forward than that. If a woman lets herself be trodden upon, then shame on her. I believe she can, and should, dictate where her limits are. If you are bending over "too" far (guy OR gal), then I ASSUME it's because you WANT to, and then the word "too" gets dropped from the equation.
if she is not strong in her own identity, or is a codependant personality
That imples that the woman that we are referring to here, whether hypothetical or not, is unable to fend for herself in society. Unfortunately, society cannot watch out for people like this, because that kind of emotional characteristic is still the choice of the individual. So again, shame on her. She will need her mother, or brother, or close friends, to watch over her until she can function like a well-adjusted human being. Until then, she probably should not be dating. That's what it seems like to me, anyway.

Micro- Coming from a woman's perspective, though, I have seen where that kind of attitude can get dangerous. Unfortunately, society is comprised of people of types of thinking levels and what may seem like a no-brainer to some might be rocket science to others. I agree with you that if you are involved with someone, you want to please them and do things to please them and that it should work both ways. Often times, it doesn't. Also, that song was recorded at the infancy of the women's movement of the sixties, so there was alot of negativity attached to it. For years, women were basically taken from their homes into their marriages, and never taught to fend for themselves. THen, during the mid-point of the last century, the divorce rate began to climb, and many of these women were left in the lurch by unscrupulous husbands that left them for younger women. Remember that at this time, a whole youth oriented culture began to emerge. I'm not saying that all marriages ended like this, but enough did that the woman's movement took off, and women went back into the workplace. THe early part of the century, women were "taken care of" by their husbands.
The lyrics of the song at that time were taken by the women not wanting to change as an anthem to retain the old style ways of relationships. Post World War 2, there was a campagne in the media directed at the woman to be a "stay at home" wife, who was a reflection of her man with no ambitions of her own. THis was done because of the women that had taken over the jobs while the men went to war had begun to like making their own money. When the war ended, the job force needed to open up for the returning GI's, so the "stay at home wife" propoganda began.
LOL the gauntlet has been dropped Micro! Are we going to turn this into a battle of the sexes debate? Put up yer dukes! LOL

That says it all! You're right.
All I can say about that is, those days are (hopefully) over. I never DID like the cave-man type of person.
Are we going to turn this into a battle of the sexes debate?
Nope! I concede. That line above says it all.
