Do you reply to messages if there is no attraction?

I also scan people who have nominated me as a favourite and contact them to know why and why they wouldn't have e-mailed me first

GSX there's an option to accept IM's from favourites only, so you're not getting every tom****and harry cluttering up your screen (especially mine which is struggling to handle two or three windows lol) so that could be why someone would add you to favourites, or at least that's what I use it for, and also have female buddies in there to enable them to IM me

I am glad this subject has been bought up because, being a new member here I was wondering about the emails and requests for IMing that I have been getting. The emails I have been replying to but it is the instant message requests that keep popping up whenever I log into my mail. I am not a big fan of IM's and especially from people I don't know, so is there a function button thingy which blocks all instant message requests.

I know just how you feel - they drove me nuts too! To turn off the IM function just go to 'mail settings' and where it says 'allow instant messages' select NO.

Same, they drive me insane and usually a total waste of time, hence the 'favourites only' option, or so i thought lol i just read a profile saying something along the lines of 'anyone who adds me as a favorite without a message will be considered a creep and deleted' which i never even thought of, funny how differently people see things hey.... men are from mars

I think it would be really great if POF had some sort of standard reply message like some of the other dating sites have. Ie like "xxx is flattered that you have messaged her and thanks you but you are not what she is looking for . She wishes you well in your search".

This would at least give closure to some of those that need it.

No, in most cases you have to be sexually active to pick up an STD. So I was really safe in that regard!!

Here's the Reader's Digest version of my answer: No!

If I'm single then there's no point in replying to someone who I can't imagine in my mind as being attractive. By attractive I'm not just talking about physically attractive. I'm also talking about a woman who can actually offer a stimulating conversation and not just "Yes" "No" "Maybe" comments.

to Op - I think it is only polite to say thanks but no thanks rather than leaving someone wondering
