Morning here at the Hunter Ranch

Been a funny morning here
seems Hunter locked us in
a key to release us
a search for we did begin
then the kids realized
that the little poodle from outside was gone
chaos erupted with kids in a panic
I was thinking what else could go wrong
we heard a whimper
out the porch window we did look
this poodle who had escaped
a thorn bush his poor fur had took
limping was he badly
entangled was thorns in his leg
I could hear crying from the other dog
help my friend he did beg
finally I found calmness
a key came to my hand pretty quick
opening up the front door I did
was greeted by a friendly lick
in this sweet lil poodle came
I became to rid him of these thorns
quite careful was I
for I did not want his precious skin to be torn
into the bathtub my kids took him
right away to get him all clean
giggles of play
vanished all of the morning screams
peace has again come
now comes afternoon
Wabbit is thinking
Hunter can't get home too soon!

Oh, Wabby...isn't it wonderful!

A bit of the baking
I must address now
There are many cornbreads
Now, don't have a cow....
There are the sweet ones
Done is a square
Some just don't like them
But I do, I swear!
Cornsticks and fritters
Are eaten with fried fish...
Or when ever, if you wish!
My personal favorite,
If I may rant....
Was handed down
From my Great Aunt
A skillet you'll need
Of cast iron indeed
And bacon cut smallen
To fry at the bottom
The batter you make
Thick like a cake
With buttermilk
& white cornmeal,
Minus the silk!
Don't drain the grease
But pour in the batter with ease
*Pop in the oven*
Till you smell lovin'
Turn it out on a big round platter
Cut in slices..or break...
It really wont matter!
Serve it beans or any ol' dish
Spread with butter or jam if you wish
If you really want to sample a tilt
Break some up the next day
In a cold glass of milk!
(Ahhh...childhood)

***Oh yeah....if you have not had a hushpuppy, you haven't lived!!!!!

Sweet are memories shared by friends
warming a heart like cookies fresh out of the oven
may they come with no end
it appears to me that corn bread I must learn to make
for it is a staple food of southern people
at a table for dinner it is one they wish to partake
so send your recipe to Wabbit please
hoping this corn bread you speak of
I will be able to make with ease.

Invites have been mailed

that they will to Alabama make their way!

Raining off and on today
yet a sun shines through

Playing house is what we do
yet trust it's real in every way
with so many kids roaming around
I find myself surrounded by a very buisy day...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Smile do I as I sit here
remembering yesterday
you and I
watching all of our children at play
to a beautiful park
we found ourselves going
boys splashing through creeks
a search for snakes had them both glowing
squeals of laughter
could be heard from children on swings
a vision of a mama duck sitting on her eggs within a tree
truly made my heart sing
ringing of an icecream truck
something I had never seen before
always new sights for my eyes to see
each day here in Alabama brings more
upon our return home
to your front step we went with coffee in hand
purple with pink clouds illuminated our sky
peacefulness I felt with no demand
I continue to smile
as I remember you teaching my little one to feed the squirrels
crackers you gave her to place beneath the tree
poetry then we all began to give a sweet whirl
only five years old is she
yet her soul speaks of romantic love
remember how she kept telling us to kiss darling
a sweet soul she is sent to us from above
as night came on quickly
children with a movie to watch were finally at rest
dancing we made plans to go
I dressed for an evening ahead with great zest
excited was I truly
to finally spend some time with you alone
so hand in hand together
into night we both did roam.........
Too funny Queen Squirrel!
Are we the Brady's ?
Leave it to Beaver clan?
nope we're the Wabbits
and the Hunters
all together roaming southern lands
a crazy bunch
that fits together so well
we simply just blend
happy am I of this to tell!
crazy scenarios
seem to daily play out for us
yet to be again part of a happy family
brings to this Wabbit
a very sweet rush!
Sounds like the lovelight has shined
once again...
On Saturday night
we headed out to dance
with our heads touching tenderly
so lost were we in our own romance
I looked at this man
that held me so tight
so handsome he is to my eyes
constantly bringing sweet delight
almost as if a white light
glows over our heads when we unite
a lovelight I suppouse one could say
blessed am I to be able of this to write.....
My last week here
then again Canada I must go
trying to keep this away from my mind
for if I linger there tears will surely flow
my home now is Alabama
here with this Hunter man
we're getting closer to that time
where we will share the same land
yet part again we must
until the month of July
then parting shall be done
a life we will live together gazing under the same sky.
Wabbit's hopping off now...much to do...wishing a wonderful day to all of you!
Oh wait...
So are there any southern women
who wish to give advice
on things I must know here
so that life will be so nice?
Side by Side
Side by side we are
hands touching with gentleness
eyes glancing with love
so close we are never far
Winding rivers my eyes do see
peacefully flowing
drawing my sight outward
becoming a part of me
Trees by the plenty cover this land
I gaze out with serenity
embracing this new home of mine
still holding tightly to your hand
Alabama, a place of beauty it's true
as we travel these roads
side by side
my eyes soak in this wonderous view
Skies so blue they embrace a soul
wildlife to be found
to see all of these lands
truly is my heart's goal
Side by side with you as my guide
I take these lands into my mind
envelope me do they
become such a sweet part of who I am inside.
Glaswegian Pigeon
Glaswegian PigeonSee me? See yon pigeon? Ah hate they things.
Actin' like they own George Square.
Wi' a cauld, cruel glitter in their eye,
Hey Jimmy, look at me, they go.
Puffin' their chist oot and scrabblin' aroon'
In whit folk like me leave behind.
A lager tin, an auld fish supper, a pile of boak.
Yon pigeon's sneerin',
Youse can keep yir Merchant City, yir Capital of Culture,
Youse're still a bunch of keelies, he says.
Wi' a half-forgotten chib in the jaicket pocket,
Of yir Princes Square designer gear.
Pure dead gallus, yon pigeon,
Jist like me.
Morning all....
I welcome you to the thread "malcolmeggs".....I sense you have a pigeon problem or dislike?
Another morn I awake
here in this deep south
feeling brilliantly alive
so blessed.
A need is fulfilled
together here we are
hearts reached
so far
here is truly
where I want to be
your twinkling eyes
gazing at me
here's to us
may life to us be kind
sweet loving images
flow through my mind.
Agony to Part
We can't bare to part
extend our stay we do
to leave you in days time
would be agony it's true
so a little longer
we shall take
sweet memories
we shall make
I feel relief
that we shall not part as we planned
God is good to us
of time he plays his hand.
I don't blame you for staying where it's warm
the damp rainy weather up north is not good for the spirit
You started me thinking about cornbread the other night
a long time ago before I was married and had children
I use to go with my ex to a restaurant in Toronto
called the Underground Railroad
the food was right out of the deep south
and the cornbread was mouth watering delight
when you master the recipe make sure you share it
with your fellow Canadians
and thank you for the old memories
of my youth.
Ah, yes....
So powerful, a soothing aroma cures
lost memories and forgotten yearns
like the cornbread daddy cooked in the skillet
of days long ago brought back till I taste it
Home and hearth of yesterdays brought alive
sent of lye and apple cake, honey from an uncles hive
The pulling need of wanting the repeating
a sense of urging bourns the seeking
So I will, my nostalgic friends
retrieve the card with worn-out ends
and passing it on with secret tips, will be my delight
all I ask is don't give up untill it turns out right !
This is dedicated....to the ones I Love!
Angel In My Eyes
John Michael Montgomery
Would love to see Wabbit and Hunter Dance to this sweet tune as they join and have a wonderful Love reunion! hugs
I watch her lyin' in bed asleep,
And I thank my lucky stars,
For every second she's here with me,
I wanna hold her in my arms,
She is my day,
She is my night,
She is the breath that gives me life,
But Sometimes we laugh,
And Sometimes we cry,
Sometimes we fight and we don't know why,
But no matter what she believes in me,
She's the closest thing to Heaven,
I'll ever see,
She always be an angel in my eyes,
Sometimes I feel her by my side,
Like she's watchin' over me,
I get a chill runnin' down my spine,
And that's all the proof I need,
That she fills my heart,
She fills my soul,
She is the half that makes me whole,
Well Sometimes we laugh,
And Sometimes we cry,
Sometimes we fight and we don't know why,
But no matter what she believes in me,
She's the closest thing to Heaven,
I'll ever see,
She always be an angel in my eyes,
Well Sometimes we laugh,
And Sometimes we cry,
Sometimes we fight and we don't know why,
But no matter what she believes in me,
She's the closest thing to Heaven,
I'll ever see,
She always be,
She always be,
She always be, An angel in my eyes
My Canadian Gal Pal has found her way
into the South and she shall stay
because my heart is with her true
I share a secret recipe or two:
Fried Corn:
Select the freshest eating corn, husk and silk about 8 to 12 ears.
Cut from the cob using a sharp knife, cutting off only half the depth of the kernel.
Using the dull side of the knife, scrape off the remaining pulp and juice.
Scrape only downwards.
For 5 cups of corn; heat 1/3 cup butter ( or half butter, half bacon fats)
Add corn and some water, until consistency is is like thin gravy. Salt to taste.
Simmer and stir for about twenty minutes until quite thick.
Good with fried chicken.
Corn Fritters:
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs beaten
1/2 cup milk
2 cups fresh corn kernels
preferred frying fats
Sift flour, powder and salt
Mix eggs and milk
Blend together until smooth
Fold in thoroughly drained corn
Heat skillet with oil/fats to 375
Drop by the teaspoon and fry until golden.
Scoop out and drain on paper towel
May be served with syrup or favorite dressing
I am not telling how this very northern Canadian gal has a Great-Grandmama who gave these recipes. I only hope that you all sit and enjoy. Your happiness will be my grammies pleasure.
The Hunter has his Wabbit
She's tickled bloomin Pink
Nuptials in the making
chillins all a shaking
Life is changing round them
Fear and Love both ground them
Happiness abounds
Eternal Bells surround
Your parting is soon , yet your union is near
Hunter imagine if you had come here
To her Land to her home, to be near her heart
Willingly she leaves; yet leaving does smart
Let loving her deeply be ever your vice
lest she give and feel a great sacrifice
May the foods of my mothers sustain and provide
May the labours of Love surround and abide
No other gift have I to give then wishes
and blessings of long happiness you live
Bless you both and the brood you hold dear, I thank you for letting me peer into your windows of joy. May the happiness you feel together, spread round the world.
We are on the road to a man's stomach
(We southerners and wantabe's), Who wouldn't?
I now will add one of my favorites
It's really too easy, just don't let him know it!
Aunt Martha's skillet cornbread:
Bacon
Buttermilk
2c white cornmeal
1c flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
2 eggs
2 tbl veg. oil
1 tbl. sugah, ya'll
10 inch cast iron skillet, well seasoned!
(If'n you don't have one, borrow one..the seasoning takes time!)
Heat oven to 375*
Cut bacon into 1 inch peices, enough to cover bottom of skillet in one layer (just make it crowded!)
Fry the bacon till well done, do not drain and don't burn them please! lawd a' mercy!
*While (or before) the bacon is doin' it's thing, in a bowl, blend the dry ingredients.
*In anothah bowl, beat eggs and oil with a fork (don't whip them, they haven't been bad!)
*Add eggs and oil to the dry Ing. (not stirring yet, darlin')
*Add enough buttermilk (now stir with a fork, hon) to make batter thick but pourable.
(don't you let yourself get too carried away with the stirring) :)
*Now turn that beautifull batter (slowly) into the HOT skillet on top of all that wonderful fried bacon!
(Let it sit there to crisp up 30 or 40 seconds)
*Now you pop the skillet into your pre-heated oven!
(I know, the waitin' is hard but give it 30 to 40 minutes just till the top browns, bless your heart! Careful, do not evah over bake...)
*When done, turn cornbread out on a big round plate and let it set a couple minutes...(we have always cut into triangle slices....big slices!)
Darlin', have your butter and strawberry jam ready!
Tip...if you make your batter early, before bacon is done, it may thicken up. Just add a bit more buttermilk. Soon you will know just what it is suppose to look like..you will be a pro southern cornbread makin' fool!!
I wake this morn
to the computer I go
a sweet smile erupts
for I am in love with this word flow....
First off
seems Wabbit jumped the gun
anticipation was high
of another week here of fun
sadly it's not meant to be
to Canada we must return
you can trust that yesterday
this caused our spirts to sadly turn
Autumn
I thank you for sharing your memory
taking us to a place in time
where you were to experience with relish
a touch of southern hospitality
BestKept
Words brought here with such flourish
inspiring thoughts that touch my soul
bless you for this warm heart you present
to lay eyes upon you my dear friend becomes an ever pressing goal.
Home and hearth of yesterdays brought alive
sent of lye and apple cake, honey from an uncles hive
The pulling need of wanting the repeating
a sense of urging bourns the seeking
I absolutely love the imagery presented in these lines
To bring back times of yesterday
we conjure up ideas to perform a replay
so we can feel that childhood warmth again
favourite foods, places, family to our minds we send
peacefulness is found from this echo of the past
we hold onto it tightly so that to our hearts it will then last.
Trying to respond to all that posted yesterday....for each post truly means so much to me.
One year ago
was my first visit here
a first flight
lizard farms
southern suns
river strolls
flowers placed in hair
pecan ice cream
so many things
to my heart
I will always hold quite dear.
I thank you for the song Queen Squirrel ....Wabbit will add it to the list to give to the DJ..
I love that you popped in
sharing this recipe of old here with us
hoping that I fry it all right
that it dont turn out for me like mush!
Your parting is soon , yet your union is near
Hunter imagine if you had come here
To her Land to her home, to be near her heart
Willingly she leaves; yet leaving does smart
Let loving her deeply be ever your vice
lest she give and feel a great sacrifice
From smiles to tears
I find myself going today
these words above you share
cause my heart to sway
such profound love
true this we have found
yet parting as we must do
causes under my feet such trembling ground
Part once again we must
until our wedding day comes in July
yet I think about my return to my homeland
which very much makes my heart sigh
for I know then what it brings
I will have before me a parting so grand
all of my family I must leave behind
experience that one last touch of a hand
say goodbye to my dad
which will be so hard it's true
yet I stand tall and brave
for I know for a new life this is what I must do
sacrifices for love
to make a new life complete
winds of change blow strong around me
with a soul of strength I of my past deplete.
May the foods of my mothers sustain and provide
May the labours of Love surround and abide
No other gift have I to give then wishes
and blessings of long happiness you live
Such deepness and sincerity I find in what you share here today, I want you to know I take these wishes firmly to my heart and it is there that they will stay. Bless you Devine...and thank you.
Our Soul's Meet
Peaceful understanding
exchanged between two
a constant dedication
towards life being harmonized
I find with you
our gazes lock so tightly
to feel each other's souls
we reach so deep
I feel you touching mine
with your strong hand
joyously I weep
for we join so perfectly
just as a river's flow meets it's shore
I've taken you into me
to be mine
forevermore.
Here comes Wabbit!
Wabbit's big day is very near
No, not the wedding, silly
Let me make it clear
Spies have been reporting
A massive amount of eggs
Have disappeared from under hens
Of which those chickens laid
And in her spare time time,
(Yeah, she has a few)
Has been making baskets...!
...In Alabama...!
Right along with her crew!
And a right many tablets of colors
Have vanished! Here's a few:
Green, purple, orange,yellow, pink,
Red and blue!
Paint brushes, ribbons & Chocolate look-a-likes,
It's thought they are being prepared for lil' tykes
I will report more, as I hear the news
But the way it looks now
Wabbit's fix'n to cruise!
What have you heard????
