My advice would be if you see a woman you like there often, smile at her and maybe work up to giving her a little wave once a work out, that way she sees you too. After a bit of this, maybe towards the end of her work out, ask her something about her work out, for example "I always see you doing this really interesting exercize with the ball. Can you show me how to do it?" Work up the conversation a couple times, especially after or before her work out, then maybe ask if you can work out next to her. At the end of your shared workout ask her if she wants to go for a coffee or something sometime. | |

Posted: 1/15/2007 4:33:57 PM | I used to think men should leave me alone at the gym - I'm all sweaty and concentrating on what I am doing. Then this morning sme guiy said Hi to me, and it was really nice! I looked around and saw that most of the people there at 5:30am were men, and then though I was maybe missing out on an opportunity. so I vowed to smile at one man each morning and maybe look a little more approachable. I've been a little militant looking since I quit smoking and started at the gym so early LOL It's been 10 days, I'll smile more now.
As long as he said hi and kept it short, I think I might actually enjoy it!
Funny how one can change their mind if they keep an OPEN mind. | |

Posted: 1/15/2007 4:52:26 PM | you know it kills me when i go to the gym and see these girls prancing around done up to the nine's and not even break a bead of sweat .... stay away from those one's. they're there for alllllll the wrong reasons. the one's that are wet and sweaty are there to keept active and keep themselves healthy and fit .... the main purpose of going to the gym .... not to pick up. hey if it happens then great ... i know a few couples that met at the gym. but don't go there looking or hoping to meet someone if it happens it happens, if not try other avenues like here on pof.  | |

How do I make a social aspect to the gym. As I see most people go to workout by themselves then leave.

Posted: 1/24/2007 6:15:55 AM | For myself....if a girl is doing weights; ask her if she'd like a spotter. I always like it when a guy offers that kind of help. Than when she's done her last rep...give her a compliment regarding maybe form....or how much weight she's pushing around for such a tiny girl.
If she's doing cardio...wait till she's done; than say something....about perhaps...how long she does cardio for (cause she's in awesome shape ), than ask which equipment she prefers...small talk is best.
Than hit her up maybe the second time around at the gym. This way she thinks about you after the first time around.
I always use the spotter line with guys myself....that's just plain sexy. And, if I haven't peaked the guys interest...I now have a new buddy at the gym that is willing to help me out if I need it and vice versa!

and figuregurl..ur an inspiration....I have been on a fitness journey for the last year. maybe one day you can share some tips with me.
getting back to the OP...I think the gym is a GREAT place to meet someone. I myself keep very much to myself however would not close doors to meeting someone there.
From my opinion...
it is very easy to spot a girl who is there to "flirt" or to "workout". Their body language is clear. Guys are smart enough to pick up on that.
Don't flirt with many girlsl bc if u do..the one who may be interested in you will definitely pick up on that and not take you as seriously as you might want.
If you see a girl needs help, then ask her. Many times I get frustrated when the guys leave all those weigts packed on the machine..a few times..guys have offerred to help me..and I think that is great !!

Posted: 1/30/2007 2:04:45 PM | I am pretty serious when I am in my "zone" and it is hard to talk to me because I have the whole ipod/book thing going on when I am doing cardio. I do think that if you're there to work out, then step up and do the workout right - the women with the iced coffees walking on the treadmill talking on their cellphones baffle me, but I digress.
If someone I think is cute walks (or runs) by, i'll definitely notice.
I might not stop working out right then and there, but i'll catch your eye. If you smile at me and I smile back, that means catch me later when I am stretching, or before I leave and i'll talk to ya. If I don't see you or return a smile, that means no dice. Have a nice day. | |

I go to the gym often & one of my biggest pet peeves is when I go to a machine..really excited about using it and there is 200 frigen pounds packed on.
drives me NUTS !!!
I don't notice the cardio cleaning...but I am very obsessive about cleanliness..that if I see sweat I freak out !!!
so I HEAR YA.........there is this one guy @ my gym who has the worse BODYODOUR i have ever smelled in my life. It is absolutely pathetic and I am wondering if he has that medical condition..there is surgery I hear for that.
But when he comes near me....even if I'm in some intense workout ..i leave..sorry but I just cant handle it..
ahhhhhhhhh when ur in your 30s........u just dont' take any BS anymore...
does this really have anything to do with age???? no ..just rambling. | |

I had someone get on the cardio machine next to me and had the worst body odour. To make it worse she put a fan on and it would cycle my way, I was in the middle of a 30min run at 9miles an hour so I was breathing pretty heavy. She got there and I gagged-had to stop and get some fresh air.
When I am doing cardio I workout really hard and sweat accordingly, which is why I would rather run outside, but when I finish I totally wipe down the machine.
I dont think it is an age thing, bad smells have always made me gag.
