I buy cd's exclusively.I don't like changing my old ways and I do like the packaging, after all that's where all the info is and that's important to me.

I usually buy vinyl. Any cd i have is either home burned or someone gave it to me (an OG or someone burned me a home copy like "listen to these guys!"). I don't own a cd player anymore so it won't be long before they make their way out of my collection after they get turned into mp3's.

Ipods and mp3 playes are definately killing CD's.

I may occasionally buy a cd but more often than not I download and burn onto a disc.

I buy CDs, usually six everytime I'm going on a road trip. I do not buy DVDs.

I just recently bought an iPod shuffle, so I could have something to keep from getting bored on the treadmill. Downloading takes more time than CD shopping.

Yep, still buy 'em, not nearly as often as I used to, but I do like owning the disc when I hear something I really want, especially for the vital info and artwork on the cover, etc.

Last 2 cd's I bought were Guthrie Govan's "Erotic Cakes" and Greg Howe's "Sound Proof."

I have more c.d.s than I can count. I just love music and believe there is no love without investment. If you like a band then whether or not they continue depends on how actively their fan base supports them. It's like if you don't vote for Presidents then you are told not to complain. Same thing for a band in my opinion. If you don't put your money into their music then you can't complain that they became a one hit wonder, lost their record deal or that your genre of music doesn't get enough attention. Even though the music industry collects a lot of c.d. sales the band still needs sales to prove to the label they are relevant. It's a business but it's a business determined by fan investment. I do own an Ipod and love it for road trips and convenience in general. I can honestly say over 95% of the 18,452 songs on there are from my own c.d.s and the rest is stuff I bought on Itunes because it was exclusively digital. I am a musical enthusiast as the OP was asking for and it seems like a dying breed.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay... i STILL but CD's and probably ALWAYS will... unless they stop stocking them.. I brought some recently and when i showed my frinds they were like... "OMFG, you brought CD's??? But don't you have an Ipod???) lol... CD's are the best... i have always liked them.. i have always brought them.. and now just becasue the internet is trying to run our lives for us does not mean we have to turn our back on greatness.

I still buy CDs and plenty of vinyl. I like the CD format, the booklets etc. But if it was some band or artist that I dont really like or I am only hearing them for the first time, Id usually download some of their stuff, then if I liked what I heard Ill go out and buy their CDs or vinyls.

I still buy CDs. I like them for the collectors editions. I also get them because there are songs that you would never hear on the radio or know anything that are really good. And you'll only hear them on the CD. I also like to get records for purely collector reasons. Plus B-sides are great.

I still buy compact discs ... also have an extensive vinyl collection ... between my compact discs and vinyl, I probably have somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000 ... and am proud to say that I've never downloaded a single song from the internet ...

The thing I love about buying cd's now is the fact that I can now buy super clean, used discs for about $2 - $3 apiece as people move away from that format and sell their collections ... and I am very glad to see vinyl making a comeback ...

I used to buy CDs way more than I used to. I spend a lot of time listening to stuff streaming online and from my collection of over 400 CDs. I have bought the occasional song from iTunes but that is only when I want a specific song otherwise I would prefer the CD format.

...Me too! I'm brassed off that I threw out my vinyls when the best thing since sliced bread was invented.

I have stacks of CDs. Is there a programme to categorise CDs because I'd be into that?

I haven't bought a CD since last Christmas and immediately stuck everything on my ipod. For some odd reason, it feels good to have a music collection though. Random songs of the moment, I'll get off itunes. I'm kinda glad of EPs because too often an album only has 2-3 good songs and the rest are shitty fillers.

My vinyl collection is looking good again.

As a reformed vinyl junkie, who's now switched to cd's...I understand where you're coming from. I will download a song I like, if the rest of the album is so-so. But if I really, really love the artist - I buy the CD. So, I guess I tend to listen before I buy.

I think we, as fans, owe it to the artists to actually buy their work. Granted, artists are not into their crafts solely to make money (those that are worth their salt anyway), but they have to eat too.

I'd hate to see the industry die out. I hated to see vinyl go. I used to devour a new lp, reading the liner notes while listening. I go blind reading cd liner notes, not to mention it takes me 15 minutes to open one...

Due to the lack of money, and my hatred towards the greed of the industry and their overpricing of CDs, I either download or buy them used. I won't ever buy new again, either. The last time I did was two years ago.

I usually download and then if I like it I'll buy it. I have a few artists who I buy whenever they release something new but that's a list of about 5. The problem is that you hear a good song and then once you hear the whole thing the rest is garbage. Most of the CDs that I have bought in the last couple of years were by people who I never heard on the radio. I came across a download and loved the music from beginning to end.
And I can't buy whole CDs off of ITunes either. I want the packaging, the artwork, the list of producers and writers, etc.

Absolutely. I might download a song to see if the actual album is worth purchasing but with sites like Myspace, you don't even need to do that. If I like what I hear, I want the actual album. The only way I generally download music is if it's something that is so rare and out of print that my chances of finding the actual release are slim to none.

I will always buy CD's by my top five favorite artists just to support them. For everything else, I buy my music digitally.

Cd buyers?
I'd still be buying vinyl if they made it. Quality of the recordings aren't as good but the whole process of putting an LP on and having 2 sides - loved it. And the album art is far superior.

I still buy them. Downloading songs on to the PC to me seems to make the song more "disposable". I'm not even sure what I mean by that. I guess it would be easy to delete accidentally vs having the CD. Eh... color me a bit old fashioned I guess.

I just finished digitalizing my CD collection because well... hey it saves me a lot of space. I download almost exclusively because I belong to a very dedicated music community on another forum that specializes in trading obscure music, part of the reason why I have over 10,000 songs on my computer. Now before you crucify me let me set a few things straight. One: bands DO NOT support themselves on CD sales, when you buy a CD 90% of the money you spent goes to the record company and a measly 10% go to the band. Two: I have a large selection of band t-shirts and other merchandise which gives the band almost 100% of the sales. I also make it a habit of seeing as many live shows as I can which again, a large portion of the profits go to the band. Finally, some of the music I like is so obscure that most retail chains don't carry it, yes I could always ask to have it ordered and I do that sometimes when I can't find a good torrent site.
