Every major world religion originates from the East like Islam,Christianity and Judaism from the Middle East and Hinduism,Sikhism,Jainism and Buddhism from undivided India....Sikhism and Buddhism were born where Pakistan today stands. The west has borrowed nearly every religious philosophy from the east!.Christ or Isa(pbuh) as i prefer to call him was certainly a coloured man like most Arabs and South Asians but i guess the majority caucasian west wanted to paint him like one of their own with blue eyes and blonde hair!!!!

What difference would it make what colour he was?

To me, it is logical that he would look middle Eastern, but how would that vary his message if I was wrong? Maybe someone pictures him as Black, others white, what signifigance is there to his message?

For his message teaches that colour , out ward appearance is irrelevant. Any one who thinks the colour of a human has any basis for acceptance of him, is obviously not following his teachings of love.

As far as nothing new ever coming from his teachings, that every thing he taught was borrowed from some other religion? Tell me some other religion where the son of a God, is actually part of God, was born of a mortal virgin, who was faultless , sinless, and sacrificed himself for the very one who put him to death? Allowed it to happen!

He, the God, served Man Kind who in no way deserved it. What other faith is there, where good works do not matter, where the mortal is not required to sacrifice themselves for the God, but rather the God sacrificed him self , not for the perfect followers, but for the sinners who do not deserve it?

To me, it matters not what colour he was, or what colour someone sees him in. His message was love, regardless of colour, gender or race. All, are his creation, all are welcome and none who ask are sent away.

If Jesus was Arabic, then God would be lying, since Jesus decended from Isaac and not Ishmael (father of the Arabs). When HE comes back maybe you should see what color he is and we would embarrassed of noticing minor things like skin color. The only thing common between Jews and Arabs is Abraham their father. If we want to go the details let's analize this

Jesus, a jewish man who was rugged because he was a carpenter (no BLACK & DECKER or Craftman Tools.) working under the Sun. Most Midle eastern people had olive skin and dark hair. Like i said, skin type is petty stuff.

Those aren't actually Jesus's teachings, but the story that is told of his life.

His teachings are the real place where people should focus, not his race, or his long hair, or his double spiked beard. (he was a Nazarene, and he looked like a Nazarene)

He taught that there were two laws, and they were that you should love God, and you should love your neighbor. In these two laws hang the laws of the Prophets. If you can find one of the ten commandments that disagrees with this, I would almost be surprised had not God smitten the stone of Babel to confuse our tongues. (misunderstanding; though we speak the same language)

Those two laws were fairly new at the time.

son of a god; and a human woman............wandered around helping people. I think his story was around first. To me; that means that Jesus was just a copy.

I don't remember Hercules saying that we should do unto others as we would have others do unto us. Of course, I'm not dense. I do realize that people make stories up about other people, and forget that idiom.

was born of a mortal virgin,
The gospels don't agree on that. Matthew and Luke both believe him to be a decendant of David. But OK:

Plato was said to have been born by the union of the god Apollo with his mother. Likewise, Alexander the Great was said to have been conceived when a thunderbolt fell from heaven and made his mother Olympias pregnant before her marriage to Philip of Macedon. In the book of Genesis we read that sons of gods had intercourse with women to produce heroes (Gen. 6:4). Even the recently discovered Dead Sea Scrolls tell of the miraculous birth of Noah and how his father Lamech was suspicious that his wife had been made pregnant by an angel. Also the writings of Philo of Alexandria, who was born about 20 B.C., contain evidence that some Jews of the period were speculating about miraculous births of religious heroes. Philo relates how Hebrew notables such as Isaac and Samuel were conceived by barren women by the intervention of the divine Spirit. Of course Zeus's lovers go without need of mention.

who was faultless
Any number. How about Mithras?

sinless, and sacrificed himself for the very one who put him to death? Allowed it to happen!

My conception of Jesus is that he may have looked like the Jews of his time. I didn't read all the posts to this, so maybe what I'm about to say has already been posted.

"He has no form or comeliness; and when we see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. (Isaiah 53:2)"

Some Jews of his time were normally tan skinned, with dark eyes, and dark hair. They weren't very tall. Since he was a carpenter, he would have been very muscular, because carpentry required strength.

Normally, when one person wants to direct another to someone else, it is done by describing some standout characteristic about the person so that the person can be known separate from the company of others of the same gender or from a crowd. Judas, it may be remembered, did not do this. Instead he had to go up to and kiss the one the mob was to take because Jesus' appearance did not stand apart form Peter, John, or any of the others with him (Matthew 26:47-56).

Jesus even had to convince the mob that He was, in fact, the person they came to arrest. And this was even though He was standing in front of them with all his features bared by the bright light of the torches they carried (John 18:3-8). Furthermore, despite the fact that he was a popular speaker and preacher in their synagogues and in their temples where virtually all believing Jews frequented and met, they still did not recognize Him (John 18:20). Could it have been because there was nothing in His features that separated Him from those standing around with Him?

Actually, though, in defense of His captors, it could be understood why he wasn't readily recognizable. Jesus, because of the hardships of his profession, would not be that distinguishable from hard working fishermen and others surrounding Him. And that brings up another point. Not only were a few of the apostles relatives of His, they were similar to Himself.

Human beings, I feel, are more comfortable in the company of those who are similar to themselves in some or many ways. Maybe similarity is one of the reasons He chose some of the apostles He did choose.

Was He a man of color? Yes His face would have been very tan skinned because he was out and walking a lot in the hot Israeli sun. But a man of color in the Afro-American sense? No, I strongly doubt it. Since his body was always covered by a cloak or tunic, chances are that the covered part of his body was lighter complexioned. Of course we will probably never know for sure.

new to this thread but caught my eye. as a brooklyn jewish girl, my dad told me early on that Jesus was from africa and probably sefardic and dark skinned. shortly after as we visited different ethnic churches, jesus took on color. i was living in an irish catholic area at the time, but there jesus was carved of a darker stone although euro features. the african and latino carvings and pictures were less euro as to be expected. as said above, it depends on the church and am surprised so many of you haven't seen that, as i am talking back 45 years at least! must be the geographic area you live in. or are you saying you live in a racially and ethnically integrated area and jesus is still white?!* i find that kind of strange, as i thought that was dealt with "politically" a long time ago.

as to what difference does it make? when you are a small child of color and not only models and presidents are white, but also the G-d of your understanding is white, if makes you feel "less than". that's why the euro's portrayed him as white, i guess they wanted the best shot at heaven! that's why even though i cannot stand george bush and condeleeza rice, by her being african american she opens up emotional pathways for my kids! same with images of the supreme being.

i am not a learned bible or religious person, but they had a tv show threading together the different religions, including the pagen origins. for example they explained that 2 women were merged to be mary madgaline and the real one was not the prostititute but his main confident which would not have been accepted back then. but they also said that mary was also said to be of an immaculate birth but the people who voted what went into the bible, felt it would take away from jesus as G-d the MAN. in addition much more emphasis upon mary can be found in the koran. i checked that last piece with a moslem friend and it appears to be true. most of the angelic and demonic portrayals were all linked together on this show and many scholars from all religions participated.

again not a religious expert but one who did a lot of marketing for religious nonprofits, all this is taken into account nowadays as churches struggle to compete and survive. not only the color of the statue, but whether he should be pinned on the cross or taken down. same for the changes in service--no hats, jeans not dresses, different kinds of music. MARKETING. not a bad thing, in fact an intelligent thing. G-d os as each person understands G-d. i prefer to use HIgher Power.

Mithras was born of a virgin on December 25.

Present at the birth were shepherds and wise men. He raised several people from the dead and ascended to heaven - ie did not die. He had 12 disciples.

He was buried in a tomb and rose again after three days.

He employed rites of baptism and celebrated a form of Eucharist with wine.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithraism

Also check out Attis of Phrygia who may well be the original precursor of the Mithras motif:

He too was born on December 25 of a virgin.

He is believed to have sacrificed himself for humanity but more importantly he was regarded as being God and the Son Of God AT THE SAME TIME.

But there's more: he was crucified on a tree and resurrected three days later - March 25th.

I watched a special on the KKK last night. With their cross burnings and their kneeling in front of the cross and yelling "white power" I have to wonder what would happen if Christ was to appear before them as he truly was. It would kind of blow their whole concept out of the water wouldn't it?

^^^ BUt how is he really though?

I do not accept their view of him but it is as near the truth as the Churches or most other people's imo.

You don't have to be in the Klan, that's too obvious - many so-called Christians would have a shocker if and when they meet him

...ahhh that is where the goddess of Love came from, is it? But Jesus actually looked a lot like Martin Luther King Jr., and quite a bit like Mohandas K. Gandhi and a lot like Saddam Hussein who was just hanged, and sometimes even like George W. Bush... yes and I have seen him sometimes looking a lot like a skid row whore and he has turned up looking like a Samoan wrestler from time to time...

Oh, the truth. So lovely to see.

All of the Christian holidays & symbolism therein are also based on pagan tradition. :) Good job.

I was going to start a thread about this but the title of this thread fits it. I was browsing the new releases on DVD and came across one titled "The Colors of the Cross". On the cover was a partial view of a crucified man. It turns out that this is a film about Jesus as a black man. The film was released last fall but must have bombed at the box office because this is the first I heard about it. The film relates the story of how Jesus was born in a manger because black folks were not allowed at the Inn. It also promotes the idea that Jesus was crucified because of racial bigotry and the film ends without a Resurrection. Just one more misunderstood black man who ain't coming back. Apart from being blasphemous, I have to think this film depicts Tupac more than it depicts Jesus. The thinking behind this is 21st century political correctness and nothing more. I have no idea if the filmmakers intended it to a possibilty to be considered or not. In my mind the only thing that could have possibly made this a worse idea is if the film had been titled "Jesus--the Original Gangsta".

In response to the comment that Babylonian culture has no influence on Christian activities is in my opinion totally wrong.

The Babylonian culture followed the Sumerian culture and the Akkadian culture. The Akkadians were a semitic speaking people. Now it was durring this peoriod of time that the Akkadians were in control of Sumeria and right before Babylonia came into power that according to the Bible Abraham was born in Ur which is the same city of Urim in Sumeria and Babylonian culture. Just with the final consonant dropped which was a habit of the Hebrew words borrowed from Sumerian language. Now Abraham would have been taught in a (Sumerian, Akkadian, Babylonian) edubba (school) and would have learned their pantheon and worshiped their gods. And brought their laws with him as he left a mark on teh semitic people who were to become the Hebrew people. And it is the Hebrews that Christianity originated from. Christianity is a cult of the Jewish faith which is a cult of the Sumerian faith. If you read in Samuel Noah Kramer's book "The Sumerians their history, culture and character" in the end of the book their is allot of good material on this theory with references.

Apart from Josephus, outside the Bible and, by extension, associated and suppressed Gospel texts (mostly Gnostic) there is absolutely no historical contemporary reference to Jesus either.

There are two supposed references to Jesus in Josephus. One is a clear forgery. The other is linked the Jesus of the Bible because his brother was named James and he was called Christ. Jesus and James were extremely common names (finding brothers named Jesus and James back then would be like finding brothers named Joshua and James today). The title Christ was given to not just the Messiah but also to king and priests. It means Anointed One. Kings and priests were anointed. In fact Jesus, brother of James, as mentioned by Josephus appears to have been the son of Damneus who was anointed high priest.

Given the lack of mention of Jesus outside of religious documents, the contradictions in his story between different books of the Bible, the contradictions in his story with history, and the numerous borrowing from Jewish and pagan sources all indicate that Jesus's true color was invisible. The man simply didn't exist.

Of what importance is the color of a man's skin, to the weight of his words?

None. If he was green with purple spots, he would STILL be one of the most influential men born in the last 2000 years.
