| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/8/2007 6:58:21 AM | I think Robert Scoble put it best:
"Comparing Nokia N95 to iPhone? Let’s just stop here. The iPhone is superior in almost every way to the Nokia N95. The battery life is better. The contact management is better. The Web browser is better. The photo taking experience is better. The screen is better. The wireless management is better. The one HUGE thing that’s keeping me from getting rid of my Nokia is the camera."
So he carries both.
As for "obscure networks"? The coverage is pretty pants on all of them. That's just "being in the UK".
Others have said "why bother. who surfs the web on their phone anyway?"
Exactly. The experience is so rubbish on my K800i that I seldom bother. It's much better on a Nokia e65 but only when you use the WiFi connection. iPhone uses a "desktop" web browser, not a mobile web browser. And Flash is coming soon.

| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/10/2007 3:45:49 AM | All of these comments on iPhone... and no mention of its inability to sync with Exchange Server ?
I cant install 3rd party apps ?
Apple really only has one thing going for them, an easy to use interface ...
If you want a robust business tool, get a phone with Windows Mobile OS... I can even remote control my PC with it ! Terminal Services.
It's a phone for kids... not business.
All the nokia's and helio's need not apply...
Not sure how anyone could call the iPhone revolutionary ? Hmm...even regular cell phones can play MP3's... read email...hmmm cell phones have been doing that for years !

| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/10/2007 9:33:52 PM | Having had the iPhone and now using it, I can say it is revolutionary.
Yes, you can find the technology in other phones, but the simplicity? No. Apple has brought a new level of usability to phones. Everything is simple and easy to use. It does things in such a common sense way it's shocking that other phones haven't thought of it.
Additionally, the functionality is quite good. It's technology provides the perfect platform for software updates and advancements. And, it's also a bit of a status symbol.
Overall, I'm quite happy with it. For most, I'd say, try it out and you'll probably fall in love with it. But if you're doubtful, wait for generation 2 and you'll have one of the best phones on the market with a good solid user base and all the kinks worked out. But for those like me, iPhone has lived up to its hype.
Finally, in regards to the argument that this phone is for kids. I work in an IT department and my 48 year old boss bought one to replace his blackberry. I also bought one to combine my email, mp3 player, and video on the go into one device. The way it handles email and multiple mail accounts is great! It's organization of contacts and calling features makes it perfect for a 3-way conference call and keeping clients and friends on the same phone.
I'm not saying its the perfect phone. But a lot of the complaints people have are nullified once they use the phone (save of course technological limitations). The most exciting thing has to be how the competition will respond now that Apple has raised the bar in many areas of the cell phone market. Love or hate the iPhone, in the end, it's release is gonna be great for the consumer.

| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/12/2007 12:54:46 AM | I don't plan on getting one.
I have a Palm Treo 680, upgraded from a 650. I wish it had a thinner form factor like Apple's, but it does everything I need and a few things Apple likely can't.
I rarely websurf on my phone, but it does come in handy. Most importantly for me is the ability to run an SSH client so I can remotely access Linux servers I manage. I had this two years ago with Palm, and best I can tell there's none for the iPhone yet. The prices of web data transfer suck - I'm with Cingular and I'll bet the iPhone rates aren't much better.
But get this - on work days I probably read more website content on my phone than I do on a PC. In the Palm world there's two cool apps - Sunrise XP and Plucker (a document reader). Sunrise rocks! With Sunrise I punch in what websites I want content from. Can be a full site, or just an RSS feed. I can specify if I want images or not, what resolution, color depth, etc., if I want to follow links (external, within domain), etc., on a per-site basis. Then I can schedule my updates.
Every morning at 7am my PC goes out to some 90 websites, blogs, etc. and grabs everything I want to read. It formats everything into a single format well-suited for reading on a small screen. I hit one button to sync, and all that content is loaded onto a one gig chip in my phone. During the day, whenever I want to read some news, I read it on the phone. I can cover the NY Times, Wapo, Slate, The Onion..maybe 30 web sites faster than I could read three with a conventional browser and a desktop PC. It's mobile RSS with no data transfer costs, plus it can reformat sites without RSS available. I can read anything, even Not Safe For Work content because it's not tapping into the office connection and getting logged. And NO ADS! My filtering on my PC handles this.
I also play about 150 hands a day of Texas hold'em on my phone. I have a 30gig 5th gen Video iPod, and I prefer my third-party Palm video player to Apple's.

| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/13/2007 4:43:23 AM | The iPhone is just a new fad, similar to the iPod, the novelty will wear off. Me? I'm getting an HTC Titan/P4000 instead of an iPhone, pretty much the same thing, touch screen, smart phone, PDA, but besides having a touch screen keyboard with a similar interface as the iPhone, the HTC also has a pull out qwerty keyboard as well and for the less money than the iPhone, and probably less problems too lol. | |
|
| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/14/2007 1:49:19 PM | | If Apple where to quit being so financially snobbish with the price i would support the iPhone. Other than that it's a very innotive phone in terms of multitasking features. I believe they are losing favorability by not being available to other providers. | |
|
| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/14/2007 6:35:23 PM | Good choice on the Titan, I have the Universal which is like the big brother to the titan...
I don't like how big it is... people make fun of it, but its a great buisness device... I also like that you can customize the interface of windows mobile... I highly suggest the tools made by spb... Diary and Phone Suite make for a great interface... and Insight is a great rss reader, whenever it has a free interent connection it goes online and downloads the newest news feeds from any source...
Also sling player works on it... thats something that apple can't say :)
now if only there was some data plans in canada that didn't make you feel dirty to pay for.

| Apple iPhone Posted: 8/14/2007 11:11:03 AM | I agree. I bought my iphone when it came out(I just like to have new gadgets when they come out). There are mnay good things and bad things BUT the bad things will probably be fixed with software updates. Cool thing is all we ave to do is connect to the computer and sync with itunes and it will update. I agree that the user interface is nice. Everything is simple to use. That is one thing I have always liked about Apple/Macintosh when it came to computers. I miss my old Macintosh computer. =( I guess it is some sort of status symbol to some degree...I mean it IS a nice phone and not many people own one. It is pricey but well worth it. I still would have liked a Palm Treo 680 though, those are so nice! Anyway, the iphone is not for everybody. It you are not into technology and want something simple, then stick to a phone like the Motorola Razr or the Nextel/Sprint easy phones. | |
|
| Apple iPhone Posted: 9/6/2007 8:35:51 PM | I was so upset when I heard of the price slashes on the iphone. The 8 gigabyte is now $399 instead of $599! The 4 gigabyte is being phased out. I knew the price would go down but ONLY 2 months or so when it debuted?!? Not cool. Some of you fellow iphone owners have to be at least somewhat upset... | |
|
| Apple iPhone Posted: 10/21/2007 4:48:47 PM | | ^^^ But you did know they're splitting the $200 difference with those who bought earlier at the higher price? It's right there at www.apple.com/iphone . Considering how everyone who paid $600 seemed happy as a kitten in a sewing basket, the $100 bonus back should seem great. Everyone knew the price would drop eventually and could have just waited for it if the price at debut seemed too high. | |
|
| Apple iPhone Posted: 10/22/2007 4:23:36 PM | Meh, I'll stick with my Nokia E62. It may not have the same web capability, but it does have the ability to:
-Plug directly into a projector for powerpoint presentations
-Connect and print via Bluetooth
-Manage zipfiles out of the box
-Not to mention built-in wordprocessing, spreadsheet and presentation software.
I also very much like its daytimer and Nokia's contact management, it's both easy to use and it's as detailed as you need it to be. And the reception is absolutely incredible.
I'm assuming the iPhone has most of that. Or at least it goddamned better for its pricepoint.

| Apple iPhone Posted: 7/13/2008 2:53:06 AM | Hell no never will I buy an iBrick. Apple is the new Microsoft it seems. Instead going to research the best choice in a Blackberry for what I need. Or maybe Palm Treo or Samsung. | |
