| What are your favorite flowers to be given by a beau?
Posted: 1/12/2007 8:29:10 PM | | Calla lillies are my favorite. Roses are best in corals, oranges and yellows. Bouquets can be gorgeous... just 86 the carnations. Bright bold colors are the best I think. As much as I like pinks and purples and reds... they just aren't as pretty on flowers. Red roses are not the way to my heart... not that I wouldn't appreciate any gesture. This is preference and opinion only. I was once given coral colored roses from a guy at work because he saw I was sad and trying not to cry. He wanted me to feel better. That was the best flower gesture I have had. Mind you... I have never really been that girl that gets them... so he is not being compared to alot. | |

I second what flowerist said....
a simple bunch of hand-picked wildflowers says a lot more that a $50 bunch of roses.
I kinda think roses are a bit unimaginative - not all that romantic really.
What a woman likes is going to be unique to her. listen to what she says, what she likes, what she makes you think of. Your thoughtfullness and effort are what really counts - NOT the flowers.
I remember saying to a guy once that I love the smell of violets. He surprised me with a sweet nosegay of them for my birthday.
other flowers I might like...
Cosmos look pretty in a bouquet - like wild flowers. I like those - daisies too.
Calla lilys are classy looking.
Tulips
huge sunflowers
plumeria and gardenias (for the smell).
nothing that was purchased from the convenience store on their way to see me.

LOVE THEM! I buy myself flowers all the time. My favs include orchids, daisies (yes I run the spectrum) and bird of passion (I think they are called). I buy my friends flowers, I'd buy my man flowers if I thought he'd dig it. K, now you know!  | |

Flowers seem like such a waste of money to me...they just die anyway
I'll second that. Don't get me wrong, flowers are a sweet gesture and would be appreciated as such, but there are better ways to spend money. I prefer the flowers in the garden.

Posted: 1/13/2007 3:34:00 PM | Oh trust me, I would take what I could find around me, rather than go to a florist or otherwise buy the flowers...
In my opinion, the best thing to give is a thing from you entirely, unless Nature helped.
I only intend to buy one non-practical gift for a woman if I ever do for said woman.
If you can't guess what that is... Too bad.
Would you prefer one of these favorites, or a one that grows outside one of your favorite places to go?

~ you can dry them. they retain color and fragrance.
~ if they haven't been sprayed, you can eat them.
~ you can infuse the fresh petals in olive oil for a yummy-smelling oil.
~ you can also roll up the fresh petals, doused in honey, dry them out and string them onto threads ~ these were the first 'rosary' beads.

Posted: 1/13/2007 5:20:41 PM | Usually I am very practical-- I am the one that said skip the diamond, I'd rather have a CZ and use the money to build fence.... but I love getting flowers. I definately have favorites, but I'm sure my choices would not be the same as other womens'. For me, orchids, tuberose, and certain varieties of heliconia top my list of favorites. And I'd usually rather have flowers than a plant-- except in the case of orchids, when a plant is great-- but it should have two spikes, in early bloom. (not picky at all, am I???  I have lived in Hawaii several times, and cannot help my addiction for the tropicals. If a man showed up with 7 stems of sexy pink heliconia I'd be a goner.
I usually prefer fragrant flowers, but not all women do. And I am underwhelmed by mums, carnations, daisies.
One thing that can really be nice is to order customized arrangements... I once received a huge arrangement of tropicals-- and there was an empty Budweiser can incorporated into the arrangement as decoration. Unusual, but it was the six month anniversary of our first date, and we drank Bud that night... so it was actually very sweet! | |

Who am I kidding. I like to look at those, never actually received any. You could send me some poison oak with a few dandelions for good measure and I'd be happy through the puffy red eyes and all the calamine lotion. | |

Posted: 1/14/2007 8:54:22 AM | I can't say. I've never really been given flowers. I was given "a" flower by a guy who picked one just for me. I loved it, until he told me that he only did it because his ex said he should try it on the next woman he was with. Kinda took the red right off that rose....so to speak. :)

Posted: 1/14/2007 3:21:54 PM | Purple lilacs, or most any purple flower. Its a happy color. And I love the scent also. Yankee candles have a white lilac one that fills the house with its lovely scent.
My boys when little guys, we would take the wagon to the woods, and their little shovels and dig up wild flowers to bring back home to plant. To this day I have a shovel in the trunk and love to stop and dig up wild flowers along the road to replant. I have 7 flower gardens and love each flower in it.
The boys also picked me the wild dandelions and I always made a big deal out of it, putting them in my hair. One day we went to the store and some lady made a comment about the dead flowers in my hair..lol. If she only knew the love that was behind those dead flowers.
But getting a flower from a beau, no roses please, nor daisys, nor sunflowers.....I prefer the dainty ones, with small blooms. Lilacs are in clusters, but made up of little individual flowers.
And for ones who just go buy a flower, because its the thought that counts, its not true, the thought is to listen to what she likes and go get that for her. She will appreciate your efforts to listening, and that you took note and brought her what she enjoys. You will get a hug, kiss and perhaps a happy tear. | |
