| What are your favorite flowers to be given by a beau?

Take me snowshoeing or for a walk along the beach...make me a nice dinner....
Flowers are easy to just pick up, something like a home cooked meal makes a way stronger statement...taking the time to learn about the foods you like and then cooking something with a couple glasses of wine, now THAT is romantic! | |

| What are your favorite flowers to be given by a beau?
Posted: 2/18/2007 10:37:43 PM | Peonies & Daisies. Wild flowers. Preference being on simplicity and the beauty of them. A small amount with babies breath or a couple green foliages in with the flower.
Flowers on 3rd, 4th dates is really good. 1st date its a bit to expected, for me. Or rather, ummm, cliche(sp?).
I think if you want to be exclusive with someone, get them he or she a nice small flower arraignment or a single flower. This would make heart sing.
Either way, it's the thought that counts. If a man goes out of his way to think of getting a single flower, that's A lot & so appreciated. | |

He actually took the time to stop in a meadow and pick me wild flowers while people passed by and seen him. Because there was no money, and all time and thought involved...these were indeed the best of any! *all smiles* | |

Do any of you ladies prefer a particular flower, or set of flowers, in a bouquet?
Personally, I love red tulips, the darker red the better.
Are there any that you can't stand?

Posted: 3/16/2007 6:47:11 AM | I have to chime in. I too love flowers, but if it has to be roses, I like orange ones. :) I'm odd. But I love carnations any day.
My very favoritest flower is the wild violet. If someone brought me a bunch of those, I'd be smitten. | |

Posted: 3/16/2007 9:29:33 PM | lilies / magnolia's either way to be honest anything is good, and for me its not the actual flowers that impress me as much as the thought or sentiment behind getting them. That said I've received flowers only once for no reason from a guy and it was lovely =) Just simple carnations but his though made me happy. | |

Roses are nice for a special occasion... But I love to have fresh flower bouquets around on a regular basis. They are NOT a waste of money. I buy flowers for myself, they are so pretty! | |

Posted: 3/16/2007 10:33:31 PM | Guardian, this is a coincidence. My birthday is very soon and I was thinking about the first time my husband gave me flowers. When we first married, we were so damned poor we could barely afford to feed outselves. It was my birthday, and the best my husband could do was McDonalds as a special treat. As we were driving home, there was a yard with some beautiful Stargazer lillies blooming. I pointed them out to him and told him if we were ever rich, that's what I wanted him to buy me. After we got home, we were ransacking chairs, couches, and clothes for enough money to put gas in the car. We finally found 3 dollars in change and he went down to the gas station. When he got back, he presented me with a beautiful bouquet of the Stargazer lillies. He had gone into the yard we had seen and stolen them for me. I know stealing is wrong, but those flowers meant more to me than anything in the world. In subsequent years, he had a standing order with the florist to send me Stargazers for every occassion, but nothing will ever replace the memory of my first bouquet.

Posted: 3/16/2007 11:02:58 PM | | I love bluebells. Sunflowers, too. Actually now that I think about it, sunflowers are pretty darned cool. They are so ambitious, kind of like us. They don’t bother to throw down deep roots, they just grow and grow and grow. And the seeds! Thousands of seeds out of one head. And they’re edible! They are good food. (Too, I love the language of flower names which are metaphors in themselves: blazing star, love-lies-bleeding, Johnny-jump-up, Jack-in-the-pulpit, gayfeather, forget-me-not, goatsbeard, holy grass, gravelghost, brass buttons, virgin’s bower.) | |

Star Gazer Lilies have an incredible aroma that fills your entire home.
If I've learned anything from this thread, it's that the Lily is a big winner over roses. Guys here's a big hint: you can get lily bulbs at (are you ready for it?) Home Depot. That's right; when you're getting all that guy stuff you can pick up some lily bulbs (tubers? corms?) and they are very easy to grow. | |
