OMG, you must be psychic or something. Those are exactly the ones I love. I was really surprised on one March day a few years ago when some tuberous begonias showed up on my desk at work. Turned out they were a birthday present from a couple of Internet friends back east. I smiled a lot that day. | |

Posted: 3/17/2007 4:56:33 AM | I love pink carnations, daisies, geraniums, impatiens, and sunflowers. As much as I like to look at lilacs, roses, lilies, and orchids, this lady is allergic to them all. I live in a very small condo, so I make sure to tell any prospective boyfriend about my allergies as it is difficult to escape the fragrance of these beautiful flowers when you are in a small space.
Re sunflowers, a young lady I know loves them so much that when she got married she carried 3 of them, tied together with a pretty bow, for her bouquet. The head table had a sunflower-themed tablecloth and napkins. | |

Oh and I expect most girls might agree, but flowers being given "just because you can" and for no special occasions, are superb, why do guys wait?!!

A single large white rose, not champagne, and yes.. their is a difference, would be a lovely gift from time to time as well. | |

I totally agree with your comment about roses being overrated and common.
Let's face it gentlemen, every woman likes to receive flowers, specially when it is out of the blue (like sent at work for no reason whatsoever), but it is really special when a man takes the time to ask you initially what is your favorite kind and then REMEMBERS it, lol.
But to answer the daily topic, my personal favorite is by far the "Stargazer Lily". They do have a pretty persistent and sweet smell but I loooove them (after all I wear Femme from Jean Paul Gaultier, might as well go sweet all the way….).
The great thing with these flowers is that it takes a few days for each bud to open up, one after the other, allowing for the full bouquet to usually last over a week, which in my opinion is pretty good as nowadays flowers are usually refrigerated for quite a while before they are actually sold in stores. I know, I know, except if you buy them at the Farmer's Market... I get mine at Trader Joes, cheaper than other stores, and pretty good quality.
And last but not least, they look so beautiful, they brighten up a room.

Much like other women, I like roses too, but I prefer pink, purple ones and even white ones as opposed to the commonly given red roses. I like different colors, variegated roses are very pretty. | |

For me, the flowers are great, but it's knowing that someone took the time out of their day and was thinking of me enough that they sent flowers. Especially if they are unexpected. They make me feel special and treasured.

I think red roses are highly over-rated....but hey I still think it's sweet if someone gives 'em to me. It is the thought behind it afterall.
I don't know exactly what it is about flowers that I love. I think smell plays a big part of it. And they are just pretty anyways. Each little petal is just so perfect.
One time I can remember getting flowers is when I was working at this coffee shop. I happened to be wearing a fake daisy in my hair and this guy came in a complimented me on it. I thanked him, served him his coffee and never expected to see him again.
Half an hour later he was back with a hand picked bouquet of daisies. he gave 'em to me and said "I just thought you might like these to go with the one in your hair". I was of course rather suprised, but it was just so sweet. He absolutely made my day.  | |

The more charismatic she is the more colorfull and fragant the flowers should be. And if she is more reserved then pick flowers that are less aromatic and strong.
Personally, I love Daisies. I know they are modest compared to the Triumphant Rose. But hey, I dont think you can look angrily at a Daisy. | |

Posted: 3/27/2007 12:27:55 PM | Hi David...Nothing beats lilacs! Perhaps it is because they are only available for such a brief time each Spring. I place a vase full in almost every room of my home. A pretty mix of deep purple and light lavender with some white lilacs is so beautiful! I had a first date once, a blind date. I had mentioned on the phone only once that I loved lilacs. We met at a public place, he would not tell me what he was wearing, only that I would recognize him immediately. I walked into the lobby of the theater and saw a smiling guy holding a large plastic cup filled with lilacs! LOL. The sentiment was so sweet...it really beat an expensive bouquet. I also love peonies, popcorn mums, tulips, freesia, and hydrangeas. Pink roses with lots of baby's breath and fern springs are also beautiful. It is amazing how popular red roses are...there are many other flowers to be enjoyed.
ALSO, guys: An Easter lily is a very beautiful and inexpensive plant to give your mother/grandmother/girlfriend this Easter! Your girl would be very impressed with either a lily for her home or an orchid corsage, if you are going anywhere special. If you are having dinner with your girlfriends family, the lily or corsage would make a very nice hostess gift for her mother and/or grandmother, as well.  | |

But, if he wants to win my heart.....a single yellow rose would do it!

Posted: 3/27/2007 3:32:34 PM | I don't require or expect flowers and I do feel that the floral business can be somewhat of a racket on occasion. (Same with the diamond business.)
However, I LOVE flowers and if I were given them as a gift, my heart would melt! I have several favorites: pink tulips, white daisies, gardenias, and jasmine. Any other kind given as a gift would also be very appreciated. I'd rather get flowers spontaneously (including wildflowers gathered from the side of the road) than to get them because a man felt he was supposed to.
I think I will probably faint the first time I get a gift of flowers. The ex didn't do that so I don't exactly know what it will feel like.
