I do value the kindness that others display and I won't knock it. That's it in a nutshell.
I agree that it's the person, not the testimonial, that's the point. It seems most here think every testimonial has to be a love interest. Friendship on a dating site? The very idea!!!
Yes, the very idea.

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/5/2008 11:09:34 AM | ^^^ Exactly .. why does a testimonial have to equate to a love interest? Maybe some profiles do .. but that is when it becomes tacky and it all comes down to who you choose to communicate with and what their intent is.
And ... re the escorts and advertising, I can do my own pimpin' without the testimonials advertising me, too funny.
Hey, maybe I should see if my buddies will be my pimps. I'm totally onto something now, wow, why didn't I recognize that before? !!
That is my laugh for the day.

Anyway, I don't like them when she has never met the guy but leaving one anyway. What's the point?

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/5/2008 11:56:47 AM | I think testimonials are good. I appreciate the deep meaning of the testimonial by some 90lb guy with frosted hair (who was apparently not given date #2) warning me that "This girl is 100% AWESOME!! Don't mess with her guys, or you'll have ME to deal with!"
Uh huh... Yep... Effective.

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/6/2008 11:45:50 AM | | Depends on what the testimonial says... I once looked at some guy's profile and was just about to messege him ..until i read the testimonial from this chick that talked about what a huge **** you can fill in the blank.. he had!! hahahhaa not that that's a bad thing but damn.. that's just tacky and makes him look like he sleeps around a lot, considering there are people posting testimonials of how well endowed he is. If it was from a friend saying how great of a catch he was then maybe it wouldn't of been such a turn off. But I agree... I'm not into the testimonials either. | |

The person with the profile is in charge of his/her own testimonials....so I guess that's up to the person whether they want all their dates advertised on their profile....I would only leave the good ones... Exactly, so writting a testimonial about someone being an axe murderer would probably be a waste of time.

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/8/2008 7:10:36 PM | They are if not written right. There has to be a REASON the writer isn't there themselves. I wrote one (I've NEVER written one before) for my good friend Will today, and here it is:
Hi I am a good friend of Will's. If he wanted me, I'd be there! That's how good he is. But I'm not his type! So let's find him a girl who is. Will girls that are petite, sweety and naughty with a good sense of humour and an appreciation for the finer things in life. Will is an old school guy of steadfast character, courtly manners, charm, elegance and charisma. He has his shit together, but does not suffer fools gladly. We've sent a couple of carpetbaggers packin! (lol) I would recommend him to a woman who was looking for a faithful, successful, quiet and classy guy. - Wreckin Ball (Suzanne)
I'd like to add one more thing. I know our pics suck! We're revamping this Friday. Stay tuned.

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/27/2008 4:11:28 AM | When I see several guys have written a testimonial telling me how wonderful someone is, the first thought that crosses my mind is why aren't they dating her? I understnad you can have a friend or two that is either with someone else or just not compatible with you, but it still weirds me out.
In a past life I wrote a few for female friends but they lived 1000 miles away or I would have been after them myself and I definitely wouldn't have been sharing the wealth. And sheepishly and selfishly he mumbles under his breath ...and if they'd rejected me I certainly wouldn't be helping them to find my replacement. Let them feel the pain of what they missed out on.

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/27/2008 9:57:52 PM | i now have a grand total of 1 testimonial on my profile and it's by a friend who i haven't dated. at first i thought it made me sound rather stuffy but he knows me pretty dern well, so i guess stuffy i am!
i wasn't even aware the testimonial was there until someone remarked about how nice it was. maybe that means the right person will view it in the light that my friend intended?

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/29/2008 7:46:28 PM | | I find when it come to guys some of them seem sincere as though they are actually a good friend of the lady trying to spark some interest her way. But then there are the testimonials that seem as though it is a dog urinating on a fire hydrant and marking it's territory...lol. Must be the testosterone thing going on there. It reminds me of that song by Stone Temple Pilots that goes something like this..."I can sense when the dogs begin to smell her." | |

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/29/2008 8:02:22 PM | What if somebody meets you offline and likes you and you like them back and each leaves a few words of a positive nature. Seems harmless to me!
The day I got a testitmonial was kind of a sad day for me. Going thru a divorce really makes you second guess your appeal and your whole life! I read the nice words left about me and it really made me feel better thinking someone found me nice and interesting! Kinda like an ego boost or validation of sorts!
I think as with anything in life, perhaps you need to form your own opinion; however, if I want to form mine and let the other person know publicly ... what is the harm there?
Sometimes what starts as a friendship moves into more and sometimes what starts as "more" ... moves to a friendship ... and sometimes ... nothing at all happens! But it should never be wrong to say something truthful about someone else! Granted ... the negative ones would be erased ... no doubt!

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/29/2008 8:38:38 PM | Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Message: Do I really need to know someone else's opinion about a perspective date? Ok, if she/he is an axe murderer, I need to know.... Otherwise, do I really need to know how many dates this person has had. Do I really need to know if so and so is good in bed or whatever, based on so and so's opinion. Be gentle, I'm new at this..... ;) Marc Message: since you are a newbie ~ I will be kind ~ I rememeber my quandary when asked to talk about "myself" ~ arkward it was.
~ oh ~ Shit ~ way didn't you say testomonials! ~~ I address the wrong thing ~ hell dude ! ~ you can drive you car down the road without the center line if you wish !
They are there for your viewing ~ if you don't need them ~ and they don't make things any easier ~ so be it ~ tear ass!

You may be reminded of the song in a Rorschach inkblot kind of way, but the song is called Plush, and the full stanza is as follows:
Where ya going to tommorrow? Where ya going with the mask I found? And I feel, and I feel When the dogs begin to smell her Will she smell alone?
It is a matter of interpretation, but I feel the line of note should be the one that reads "Will she smell alone?" as in, is loneliness and desolation something that can be sensed by others? That is my interpretation of course, but the song has absotively zero to do with failed suitors marking their territory.
Still taking the testimonials with a grain of salt, since who approves or leaves up bad ones? I would of course, but sane people tend not to want to have themselves painted in a bad light since it limits their dating prospects. However glowing, flowery ones tend to be too far in the other direction, hollow, even sycophantic.
The only way to form an objective opinion of a person is to form your own, not take the word of others.

| Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ? Posted: 9/30/2008 8:44:01 AM | | Testimonials... I do not get them. Favorites either. You have a thousand favorites and still on here? Great testimonials and still on here. Everyone loves you and you cannot get a good date. What chance is there for the rest of us. This is not a personality contest but we are trying find someone that makes us smile for more than a day. To write he/she is a nice person but we had no chemistry. That is different. He/she is so marvelous, this and that, but I don't want him. I say testimonials and Favorites are a turn off. They mean nothing and when I see many of either on a profile I will pass because they look like players or seriously hard to please. | |
