Lose the extra weight before trying to date?
Posted: 5/17/2007 11:17:30 AM

Since my earlier post on this thread, I've lost another 15 lbs, but even though I have plateau-ed, I have dropped another clothing size since staying at the plateau.

I am doing it so I have more opportunities in all walks of life, not specifically dating.

Have you noticed a difference?

5 ft and 124 lbs isn't considered to be overweight by the BMI. Even if you were a few pounds overweight, many men would date a slightly overweight woman. If you were a obese, then your dating pool becomes much smaller.

november, No one other than you should decide when you're ready to date again, and I'm sorry that stress triggered your weight gain. You're a very pretty woman, whom I respect for your care of an elderly parent. I 'dodged those bullets' w/ both of my elderly parents.

I also have a metabolism rate that astounds many ...and has frustrated the few women who decided to lose weight before dating again. Forgive me, but I am a man who prefers being w/a woman in my same-or-less weight class, and I stay thin w/o too much of an effort.

My current weight, which is 10 lbs. less than when I graduated from high school 30+ years ago is due to my not eating enough while I cope w/ depression. I'm a "Catch-22" when it comes to dating and having a LTR worth keeping ...as both my ex-wife and one SO since grew lax for their caring to keep their weight down while we were together. Women get comfortable w/me, but aren't because of me?

Neither envy nor vanity should play no part in any healthy LTR, but these are both factors that played a part in my falling out w/ each. I don't go after "A Few Extra Pounds" unless I sense that the woman is being as honest as possible for herself in her profile ...and is willing besides able to ignore my 'gift' that's really a curse when it comes to being w/ 'mature' women and questions like yours here.

I don't know if the BMI or the Doctor's healthy weight charts are different in Canada & the US (from stuff I've
read in other threads, I think they may be) but the average healthy weight for a Canadian woman who is
5'6" is 124-140 if she's in her 30's, 135-150 if she's in her 40's. You sound under, rather than overweight to me.

Personally, I think that logically, you will find it easier to lose weight, if you are happy & that like most people,
you will be happier if you are in a serious relationship. Just the way the human heart works, in my experience.
And also, wouldn't you rather be with someone who appreciates you for the warm, wonderful person on the
inside, instead of the packaging? Wouldn't we all? But, to be fair, girls, we should try & do it both ways. Don't
turn down a sweet, charming, funny guy, who's only 5' tall. Or who's starting to go bald. After all, how terrific
are YOU going to look in another 50 years?!

If you decide to make excuses once, you'll keep making excuses forever. Might as well just have fun. Don't apologize or justify yourself, you don't need to in this case.

The only thing you might want to change is the profile pic, so people don't get a bait and switch.

a difference? eehh not so much at work, but my friends and family all tell me I've lost weight. And while I'm not really getting any dates from it I am getting a lot more looks!

mainly I just feel quite accomplished in my smaller clothing size.
