| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/29/2008 7:35:33 PM | I have just spent much time reading every page of this forum....Yes, I recognized many of the scams you have mentioned. Several people have mentioned playing with these people, and block and delete. I have not seen nearly enough people say they have reported these people to Administration....I certainly hope you have done so anyway.
Quite often the reason you see them disappear so fast is that Administration gets right on it and takes care of it. If I recognized so many of these scammers, others have obviously gotten their handiwork....You realize, of course, that if Administration gets dozens of reports, it becomes obvious to them that the person is a scammer and their work is made easier.
There are a few who have gotten smarter and sometimes it takes a bit longer to realize that they are, in fact, scammers...But, once you know for sure, report them...if you still want to play, it won't matter....just don't fall for it.
We'll never get them all, the operation is too big....but, let's do what we can...
Sincerely,
Knittin Kitten | |

Report them to the Administration .... when I did, it was acted on immediately ... there is zero tolerance for such scammers.
Enjoy ..... thank goodness there are not that many like that here on POF ....

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/30/2008 9:04:59 PM | I hate to admit this...a fella in Nigeria contacted me through yahoo personals. He had a picture and said he had a home in the states and was there working as an engineer. His english and his tying were perfect. This went on for almost a month. He sucked me right in with how god had sent me to him, how lonely he had been before he met me. My gf from St Louis came to visit me, I shared with her that I had met this great guy on yahoo. She was very concerned and told me about this scam going on.......I started questioning him asking why he didn't have any more pics , he gave me one excuse after another. By the way..his picture was very nice looking. looked about the age he said he was (59). He wanted me to get off of yahoo personals and not speak to any other man. He said he took his off as soon as he met me.......I told him that I had just payed $89 to join and that I hadn't know him long enough for him to have such feelings for me. Anyway...I took him off my yahoo messenger........He had a lady, named Peggy , from Tenn. call me out of the blue, and tell me she knew him and her husband used to work with him. She said he was crying and very upset that I wouldn't write to him. The next day he had a dozen roses sent to me. I didn't know what to think, so my gf said let's re-add him (she wanted to prove to me he was a scammer). I did, and it wasn't long before he was asking me for money. When I go back and re-read our conversations, the way he expressed his feeling for me, were not the way most american men express their love to women (even if they love them). I can't believe I fell for his story. I saw how desperate I was to hear those loving words he was so good at expressing......... sheesh....... | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 7:47:42 AM | These scammers are working all the dating sites, they try to get you to send them money. They usually copy profiles of regular people, the scammers are men and women and they try to get you to feel sorry for them since most of them will claim to have a child and they need money to get back to the states, and will end up asking you to send them money. The men usually prey on women in their 40 to 50 age group. I had one contact me and that is how I found out about them, but once he asked me for money I told him to take a hike. I reported him to the dating site, and apparently the FBI has a place on their websites you can report these people on as well. You just need to very careful and if at anytime you have red flags going up you should listen to them and move on. | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 9:12:08 AM | RED FLAG for sure!!! Ive come across quite a few on chatlines and dating sites such as Netlog and Tagged. If u have a profile on any of them and they give you their email address to contact them, dont do it especially if u use a personal email address like hotmail or outlook express.
Just recently i got a message from a woman claiming to be dying and that she needed someone to be her beneficiary for 3.5 million dollars and asked me to message her for more information about it. She even had a picture of her in a hospital bed with a doctor beside her but its so easy nowadays to get any pic like that online. Of course i reported the message as spam to the dating site and deleted it.
You just have to use your common sense about these type of things cause u can end up losing a lot!!!!

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 10:03:24 AM | I don't even use yahoo messenger anymore because I got so much crap from these kinds of people. It's not worth the time it takes to log on,, anyone who knows me has an e-mail address and will contact me that way. Then, if my filters don't catch the spammers,, I delete unread, any messages from e-mail addresses I don't know.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 12:31:54 PM | Well, I've yet to find a picture of the scammer I've communicated with but lack of emails and contact from his side, after I've pretty much TOLD him he was a scammer, pretty much puts the nail in the coffin, as far as I'm concerned.
Now my problem is that I think I'm more scarred from this experience than I've let myself believe because all I do is look at men who have viewed me on here and wonder if any or all of them are scammers! My trust is completely gone and I HATE that! How will I learn to trust again? This TOTALLY sucks!

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 12:37:10 PM | | I've had them approach me on tagged, myspace, hoverspot, & fanbox. I finally deleted my profile on hoverspot & getting ready to delete the one on fanbox. I finally got really nasty on my tagged & myspace profile & flat out told them if they were from another country & couldn't speak English to leave me the f**k alone!! I even had a middle eastern to leave some really nasty photo comments on my profile on tagged. I don't tolerate anybody talking smack about my daughter, this man left a message saying that she belonged in his bed, so I copied/pasted the comment in a message to the moderator & reported him, then blocked him from messaging me again! I don't mind chatting with men from Scotland or Ireland cause hey I can understand them, but I'm fed up with middle eastern men or the other's messaging me. I can usually tell by the way they type that they're not really from the US. | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 3:49:48 PM | I've seen those scams before as well. They write all these sickening love letters about how I have to be the one his soul is searching for, how he knows I am the woman to have his children etc etc etc. How rediculous! I have them blocked now on myspace. I found one profile here about a man in Orlando like me. He messaged me because we had a similar interest in history. Well I clicked on history in his profile and found another man with the exact same profile except different picture and location. The profile was word to word exact. I told the original someone had copied his profile (giving him benefit of the doubt) He got furious and said he wasnt into games and that I was terrible to say such things. HA I wrote to the other one and he deleted without answering. I wonder what kind of scam they were playing? The original profile I still see online all the time. | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 8/31/2008 4:44:38 PM | It's not only Nigerian but all scammers. Yahoo is the most popular IMing program so that's where they go. And Yahoo isn't doing a f***ing thing about it. Every time I log on I have a few offline messages from scammers, spammers whatever. I don't even bother ignoring them or reporting them as spam anymore. I sent an email to Yahoo asking them when are they going to do something about it and of coure I did not get a reply.
As long as Yahoo remains popular they won't do anything to fix the problem. The more people using it (legitimate users or scammers) the better for Yahoo. Having to type in codes prior to entering chat rooms hasn't done a thing. In fact it's worse than it was before.
They're everywhere. I advertised some equipment to sell on a very legit and respected site and sure enough I got a couple of emails from 'prospecitve' buyers saying they would send me a cashier's check for about $1000 over the asking price if I would send them the merchandise. A friend of mine got a cashier's check in the mail with a very similar offer. Out of curiosity he brought the check to his bank so they could check it out and of course the bank listed on the check didn't even exist!

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 9/4/2008 6:17:45 PM | I pulled a reverse scam on one of them. The person acted like they where a lady, they sent me pics, talked dirty, yada yada yada. So then the story line comes into play and they tell me that they want to come to the US and they have money but they have no way of cashing the money orders. They plead with me to do the follwoing:
Cash the money orders, keep a small percentage for myself, and then western union them the remainder of the money.
Now remember, I know this is a scam plus I'm an accountant and I can smell fraud a mile away. So play along, they say they want to DHL overnight the money orders to me, great, well they get here but I was not home and they where at the office so I had to go down there the next day to get the package, meanwhile this person is frantically calling and e-mailing me asking me if I got the package. I finally replied and said not yet because I have to go pick it up and they start freaking out on IM. I'm laughing the whole time, so I tell the guy...oops I mean lady, ha ha, to call me, they do and it's a bad connection and the person on the other end sounded like a guy trying to speak like a girl...LOL!!
So I get the package and I look at the money orders, they look real. I call the money order company to verify the amounts and the company would not, I suspected this, I asked if they where reported stolen, nothing, but the lady was dropping hints during the conversation like some people buy money orders for 1 cent, they bleach them and reprint them for the highest denomination possible. Well that's what I kinda figured they did.
Now, the fun part, so I go on line and this person is there anxiously waiting for me to tell them the good news, well I did, I called them out on the scam and they grew silent. They got mad and said why did I do that and that they had to pay overnight shipping from Canada which cost them about 60 dollars. I was laughing so hard at this point and basically told them that they dup so many people and that I wanted to get them back and that it was fun playing the game with them. LOL!!
So now I get my revenge by taking this persons e-mail account and I sign them up for every religious web site that I know of. So they would get inundated with Bible verses, scripture and other religious material and e-mail, enough to perhaps make them want to cancel their fake yahoo account but I'm sure they have many of them.
So this is my victory over the Nigerian scammers.

So this is my victory over the Nigerian scammers
Are you serious???
So play along, they say they want to DHL overnight the money orders to me, great, well they get here but I was not home and they where at the office so I had to go down there the next day to get the package Dooooooooood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You gave them your name and address and verified it was correct by picking up the package
so I tell the guy...oops I mean lady, ha ha, to call me Are you insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You gave them your phone number
So this is my victory over the Nigerian scammers.
No... Really, they won.
They have your name, home phone number, home address verified.
Change your number before you have a $25.000 phone bill. Get your damn credit ratings cause you may soon have a new house purchased under your name. Do you have any idea how much info can be obtained on you with this stuff. One call to one of their local reps and your trash is theirs and eventually your bank info is going to be there. Ok, so I've never heard of them going that far but really.
You didn't string them along you played into it. Exactly what would they have gotten by sending you some fake cashiers check. A laugh at you getting busted by the check cashing company for trying to pass a bad check???? Maybe getting lucky and the checks clearing???? Ya right????
You need to get proactive and watch your back now.
Ugggg... just report the profiles and close the IM. Don't play.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 9/4/2008 6:52:03 PM | Everyday, I get about 10 or so emails in my yahoo email box. I just hit the spam button, and let it go. They are getting desperate, Hell, they're using people who are supposed to be famous actresses who are dying now. LoL. All these Nigerian scammers are so poor, they will do anything to make a real dollar. That's how bad their country's government is. Can you imagine, if we were so broke that this country was like that? Shit, we would be so desperate, we wouldn't have second thoughts about doing the same things to other people. It's sad that Mugabe doesn't give a **** about his own people, but then again, he's the dictator who rapes, murders, and tortures his own people. They won't stand up and fight against him. They have nothing to fight for. I can't feel sorry for them, they let this happen to themselves. | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 9/4/2008 7:03:08 PM | I met someone on another dating site bout a year ago who was such a charmer! He said he was Italian and was working out of country with his daughter in Dubai. Sent me websites of the building he was supposedly working on. a couple weeks into the email yahoo chat thingy he started getting personal and wanting to web chat. I am not a big web chat fan but agreed to do it if he did. Well....he didnt have a cam, couldnt get one, his company didnt pay him the money to supposedly pay his workers annnd his daughter fell in the shower and was in the hospital and he had no money to get her the help/medicine she needed. So I started gettin a little sceptical after the web cam thing and it only got worse from there. He asked me for money on several occasions...even cried on the phone a couple times. I declined to send anything and he got rather pissy with me. I confronted him one day and I havent heard from him since. Thats as close as I have come to being scammed! It is really scary to think that you can be scammed by anyone at any time and some of these guys are very good at it! | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 9/5/2008 1:54:55 AM | I also had a friend who was writing to some guy who was working for the military (supposedly) on Andros Island. She had been writing to him for a long time. He invited her to the Island and was going to have her fly on the military transport and all this bull. She was actually planning on going and wanted me to go with her. She said all he needed to get clearance was a copy of my passport and my social security number. I told her NO F---ING WAY! I kept telling her that there was something fishy when at the start of her correspondence he seemed to have a hard time sending a pic --always making excuses. She totally fell for his crap even though there were a million red flags. | |
