| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 4/22/2009 9:30:25 AM | A "Gent" with a very Irish sounding name contacted me on here. (ladies you might recognize him by his picture where he is holding Grumpy of the 7 Dwarfs) Now, this guy did not ask for money but his story goes as this. Communicates with very poor, broken, English. Works in the energy field for Exxon. Lives in Tulsa, working world wide and is currently in Qatar. Has two children, one in England in boarding school, one in Australia with his ex. Mom English, lives in London near his daughter. I ended up having a few conversations with him and moved it to Yahoo.. It was amazing that his English became better depending on the time of day or obviously the shift worker. Within a couple of IM's back and forth he was going to tell his daughter about me.. he was going to call me.. *I wouldn't give him my number* He wanted to send me gifts. He was in love. The last conversation we had he tried to send me pictures that my yahoo blocked and asked me for my email address which I gave since if I don't have you in my email list it will be rejected. Took him enough time to try and send me his pictures with their malware attached via email and be sent back and he amazingly went off line and I have not seen him yet. His account is either hidden or deleted here. I guess I wasn't such a keeper after all? High maintenance scammie and not worth the effort? Oh yes.. he mentioned God a lot and offered to pray for me and what ever situation I talked about.. Key phrases he/they used were.. That is fine... ok... theise for the word this.
Now I have not reported this jerk to POF *yet* since he did not ask for money. I have been watching to see if he shows up again since I think he is gone. I don't know if there is anything POF could do beyond banning his IP and deleting his profile so not much incentive for me to report him.. So add one more to the long list of scammers/info phishers.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 4/22/2009 2:27:51 PM | I actually got an email from a "model quality" woman saying things about wanting to come here and be my wife. I knew she'd only be asking for money, so I never returned her e-mail. She was in Nigeria and said she was originally from Chicago.

The guy I talked to .. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop.. I guess he just wanted my email so he could sell it to a spammer list. I am ready to close the acct as soon as it starts.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 4/29/2009 9:31:09 AM | Omega gentleman: Please google "email scammer" or something, and read up on this trend before you fall victim to it.
Your second response concerns me, because I guarantee you that the model was not the person contacting you. There are no models working at these outbound scam farms in that country. They just find a picture of a pretty woman to use, because they know that's all it takes to hook some succeptible men.
If you happen to be in a bit of a vindictive mood some day and you are contacted by one of these folks, play a little game - Ask them for a picture that would prove their existence, like the lovely girl standing beside a local landmark. Or better yet, tell "her" that you're all worked up about her, and you just have to take the conversation to video (cam) so that you can see her beautiful face live. Then watch the excuses fly!

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 6/10/2009 8:56:08 PM | I myself came over here bacause of so many scam profiles on yahoo. I had one there respond with a really long-winded email about how great I was, (geeezz,we'v never even talked or met before)ya know, blowing alot of smoke to get my attention I guess; followed by some 20 questions thing.(the answers to some of the questions were on my friggin profile, yahknow?) Long storey short,a few emails later,I decided to ask if she'd like to meet up somewhere, and what part of "LA" she was in. The comeback was that she was accually "living in a church" for now,in Nigeria. One thing I'v found in these scam profiles on yahoo,THEY ALL LOOK ALIKE! Almost the entire right side coloumn,(where the decription of what they'r looking for) they put down "Any",or "Dosnt matter". | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 10/2/2009 9:36:42 AM | inheritance scams are big .... using your actual last name [normally because its listed on your email profile] still netbased email is safer if treated with proper caution.
the other big one lately is ... European lottery scams
I send all the information I receive to Scotland Yard .... they have a scam division trying to hunt these people.
with wireless internet connections available free to be connected to all over every city all the scammers need to do is scan for connections and you will never find them. their ip changes every time they are online.
they also will phone you and use regular mail if the opportunity arises Just be wary but don't become jaded over internet contact ... remember chat sites are mostly casual and don't get too personal with them.
icq is virus heaven ... so is yahoo chat [mostly robotic spammers] left them both years ago for the general waste of time they are.
good luck on not getting scammed ... the investment industry is a good case too. [don't put all your eggs in one basket ... is a good thing to remember]

Posted: 10/2/2009 12:30:42 PM | | For what it's worth, money has been stolen from me in many different ways four times in my life be, three times from British people I worked with in a self-employed capacity, and once from a Nigerian... but if it belongs to the Nigerians, everyone is talking about it, right?

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 10/8/2009 2:17:34 PM | Nigerian scammers are positively using Yahoo. I have a myspace account & I constantly get emails from dirtbags posing as beautiful women who "want to know all about me" and want to date me "right now."
I live in Ontario but they claim, for example, to be in San Diego California! The English is all universally bad & they all want you to contact them at their yahoo accounts.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 10/8/2009 2:20:53 PM | Well, I've had one on here, Hon. Not sure what country he was from, but it wasn't anywhere in North America, Australia or England I can tell you that. I reported him, he's gone, but will probably bee back with a different profile later. You can tell by their wording and punctuation. Also had one on Yahoo along time ago. Just beware.

Posted: 10/8/2009 4:15:57 PM | the do it on Craigslist too in the apartment rentals all the time, they make up an address, or use one and pretend to be the landlord and if you like the place send them the rent and stuff and they will give you the key.
Half the time they pretend to be pastors of a church.
What is it with people from that country that they must scam everyone or at least attempt to.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 11/1/2009 2:51:16 PM | Almost everyone with an email account has received the scam/phishing emails, many of which have originate in West Africa. Has anyone been approached through Plenty of Fish and built up a relationship only to find out that the individual they thought they knew was actually an African trying to perpetrate a scam?
I have met my share of non-starters on the site, as I think most of us have.
Recently I have met someone very interesting, extremely nice looking. We are building up a pleasant relationship, but are no longer corresponding via PoF, but are chatting on Yahoo. He has recently had to travel to West Africa on “business. Because of so many false starts my “spidy sense” is in overdrive. I am hoping that it is simple paranoia and that he really is what he claims to be, but I am not investing to much of my self into this one.

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 11/1/2009 6:28:48 PM | Some of the best ways to determine if the person behind the profile is a Nigerian scammer is to go to www.focushawaii.com, which is a modeling site, and www.romancescam.com which has a database of Nigerian and Russian scammer pics. Most of the Nigerian scammers steal photos of models from focushawaii. Search through that site and you just may see some familiar faces. | |

| Apparently those Nigerian scammers are using Yahoo messenger now... Posted: 11/3/2009 9:11:17 AM | | Being as i am one of those taken in,i thought i'd worn other people too. This has nothing to do with match making sites that i know of though. It started about 8 years ago or so with me. But was a scam about these 4 so called executive people ahead of the oil buisness. They clamed their money was held in london's bank, and london would not let them get the funds ment for them. So the scam was to over spend what the contracters was suppose to be paid for them to pay the contracters. But needed money to pay certain people off to get it to go through. Or made up stories about stamps, offshore duties, and so on. At the same time they were contributing thousands themselves. Well,in the end it cost me a total of 30,000 us. dollars. Of which about $5,000 of it cost me to go over there to sign a bunch of papers. If any one is caught in this net, beware of second floor bank buildings. Because since i've heard of another getting the same treatment of another case in England. Even i tell the FBI about these scams, all they do is tell you if it sounds to great it is not true. And i've never gotten help from them. But a supposedly detective called me from New York a few times to get my information papers that were faxed to me in the process. So i did. Never heard from him again either. Since those years,i must have gotten an average of 3 a day with different other scams like it. As i am now on the contracting list in Africa. | |
