| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 2/28/2007 10:07:42 AM | Why does quitting smoking make it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep? | |

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 2/28/2007 11:04:41 AM | | My experience is that your brain will do strange things to make you give it nicotine. I quit cold turkey for 3 wks once and didn't sleep more than 2hrs a night and in retrospect I was depressed for the entire time ( Didn't understand depression back then). All returned to normal when I started smoking again. I wish I could tell you I went on to quit but that would be a lie. Take heart, you probably haven't smoked for too many yrs so hang in there and at some point your brain will relent. | |

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 2/28/2007 8:22:41 PM | | Thanks. I'd rather quit now than in the summer. Also you are right... I have smoked six years (about a pack a day).. it will only get harder with time ...if I keep smoking. | |

| Have you had a sleep study Posted: 3/3/2007 12:25:49 AM | | I had one and I use a CPAP machine and that helps me to sleep and I also take a light sedative to help me sleep. | |

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 3/15/2007 7:50:52 AM | Wow I have not been back to this thread. Yes I am still an insomniac. Now I am expecting and iit is worse than ever. I can not wait untill the sun rises early and then sets late so I dont feel like I am up in the dark so much. I am currently up at 4 which was 3 untill daylight savings time then I lay and try and try to sleep then next thing you know my alarm goes off at 5:30. BRUTAL! After my pregnancy which I am thinkin is my last, I will be dealing with my sleep issue first hand. All the advise and stories have been helpful and will be trying some of the natural techniques. I hope fellow insomniacs find some night time peace soon! | |

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 3/16/2007 6:27:30 AM | I haven't seen melatonin mentioned yet. Regulating your sleep hormones can help. You can buy melatonin over the counter or behind the counter at drug stores or health food shops.
The psychiatrist I work with recommended it to someone this week so there must be some evidence out there that it works.

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 8/26/2007 8:19:39 AM | | BadBrain, I feel your pain!! I have suffered from insomnia for many years, too many years of working night shift in ICU I guess. I have tried all the natural remedies, but the only thing that works for me now is Ambien CR. I don't take it every night, but there are some nights where I am just so tired, I have to take it. On the nights where I am sleepless in Florida, I post on the forums!!! lol | |

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 8/26/2007 9:08:11 AM | ^^^^ My pop takes Ambien
I only know of meds that help - it's better than going without in my book
Tylenol PM works like a charm - I took a Xanax last night and I feel marvelous!

| Insomnia ARRRGGGGGHHHHH Posted: 8/29/2007 10:33:22 AM | An xbf told me about melatonin , it is over the counter, all natural and works like a charm. When I think I have my sleep patterns back to all night long then I stop taking it again. When I start waking up every hour on the hour all night long I start back on them again! | |
