I'm new here so haven't had a chance to really have the bad experiences that people are complaining about. Although I am new to POF, I am not new to internet dating. I've met some nice people over the years with just a couple of those being relationships that lasted more than 4 months and less than a year.
Some guys that have contacted me made it painfully obvious what they wanted from me.. I guess their approach works for them? Those I ignore and don't even respond to. Then there are those that want to talk to you on the phone right away. I learned after a couple times, they just wanted to talk nasty. Guys if you want sex so bad, try developing some better social skills! You come off as desperate fools when you IM a gal with rude and very crude comments! Finesse goes a long way!
I'd say that the majority of contacts I have had over the years have been from guys that behave themselves. I am a mature woman and I know I have more value than just a roll in the hay. Sure I'd like sex, I admit that. But, I wouldn't want to just jump at the first offer. As I told a guy the other day, women can really get into sex once their emotional needs are taken care of. Maybe I'm generalizing, but I do know that is my own personal preference.

Unfortunately it is often safer to avoid trying and not face rejection than it is to put your self out there and feel the humiliation of rejection.
We are a consumer society, so unless you have what the market is looking for you will probably be left sitting on the shelf gathering dust.
Sad commentary on the state of single true but it is what it is.
