Because not being able to spell TATTOOS or knowing when to use THESE and not THIS...oh oh and my favorite...lol using the word "puff" to signify build, now that's funny. If what's inside that counts...and what's inside is what everyone is looking for, why not express it in an art form on your body that shows it off? | |

I will not ever regret, or remove my tats, if only to aggravate these narrow minded bashers when I am in my 80's! How can anyone possibly predict what perfect strangers will want to do in 20 years? It is my sincere hope in 20 years you all will find it necessary to GET a tattoo in order to be "civilized" and retain employment! LOL!

Astrosky: You can't mean it! This is unreasonable. Can you imagine what you will look like at 79 years old with very wrinkled skin and tatoos? I tell my mom who is this age not to wear sleeveless blouse or short pants. Get real! Every one will regret them on their skin at some point. They are just a fad and meant to intimidate others. | |

- A fashion that gains and loses popularity very quickly.
- A fashion that is very popular for only a short time.
- A fad, also known as a craze, refers to a fashion that becomes popular in a culture (or subcultures) relatively quickly, remains popular, often for a rather brief period, then loses popularity dramatically.
You're absolutely right, tattoos are a fad which people have only just started getting and are going to very soon stop. I got mine only because it's what everyone else was doing. 8-) And you're absolutely correct.. The number one (and only reason for that matter, besides goin with the fad) reason I got any of my tattoos was so I could look all big and tough and scary and intimidate everybody. Nevermind the fact that only one out of all of them can be seen unless I'm shirtless or wearing a beater.
As for everyone regretting them at some point. That's absolutely untrue. I've known quite a number of people well into their 70s/80s/etc (but wait, that must be one hell of a long fad if these people have them and are in there 70+s) that didn't regret them at all. I can't say for certain how I'll feel in 50 years and quite frankly, don't care. Don't presume to know what other people do or will be thinking/feeling. Are you some sort of friggin' psychic?
I really hate generalizations like "everyone". Not everyone thinks the same, has the same experiences, feels the same, etc. about anything. Don't presume to know what everyone thinks, you obviously don't. | |

Posted: 9/26/2005 8:15:17 PM | I think profile questions and searches should be expanded to include piercings and tattoos. I feel this is as important as smoking, drugs, marital status etc.
Tattoo's are a major turn off and I doubt I could ever be with anyone who would destroy thier body in that way (art is hung on a wall, not carved into your body).
Piercings on the other hand... ear - ok. Tongue/Nose - maybe, but as soon as you start throwing them into your eye lids, nipples and hoods it turns my stomach and makes me want to vomit as much as tatoos do.

I show mine in my photos, since I feel they're an expression of who I am. Showing who I am in a way I probably can't put into words, much like the rest of how I look. If somebody looks at my profile and doesn't want to talk to me because I have tattoos, then hey, that's a person I wouldn't be crazy about talking to anyway.

Most people who have TATTOO'S have spend alot of time and money on them and ..it makes them feel great about having them !!!! I have two Tattoo's and am getting my whole back done.. and I will for sure have some pics on my profile... I am sure of that !!!

1) they are a part of me, like em or not
2) I plan of getting more so I would hope the person I meet is fine with it
3) its a form of art, they are beautiful, each one for me a story and a meaning
4) its a great way to start conversation, if someone askes about my tatts Im more than happy to talk of them
5) learned from experience that not all ppl are down with em, had an ex who was so against them that I had to cover up and take out my tongue stud when around his parents/nonna
6) I like men with tatts and appreciate someone who is dedicated to their passion and look for people who share common ground.
7) my mom asked me when I was getting my first one done at 18 what if I meet someone and want to get married to this person and he doesnt like tatts.. I told her well then in the first place Im not going to want to be with someone who doesnt like my body art simple as that.
8) I like to show people that not all people with tatts are sailors, freaks, underground people.. they are so mainstream now I bet there are a few people in each work place that have at least a few of them that you would never know.
Mine can be hidden, wait.. cept the one of the eyes.. thats on my neck at the back, k so the other 3 can be hidden for certain occasions, but other than that I wear em proud and I like to show of my artist's work that he has done so well.. | |

If anyone goes and talks to someone they meet with tattoos, MOST of the people would say it is due to a tragic occurance or happy time in their lives, while the others are going to say it was just spur of the moment and I hate it now!! Well thats why you dont do spur of the moment, cause most of the time you grow to hate it. I personally have 4 tattoos with plans on alot more, and I am very proud of them, they all represent a different period in my life. Everyone is different, not everyone likes tattoos, and would generally discriminate against people that have them. Like for instance if someone is walking down the street with a bunch of tattoos on their arms, some people take it to far and walk to the other side of the road thinking something bad is going to happen to them, but again I want to innerate It is self expression, and yes I too consider it body art, because thats what it is. I also agree with a few of you that said some tattoos dont look right on certian people, which is true also, but hey to everyone their own right.. | |

Until the last five years or so, we rarely (if ever) saw them. Now, it seems like it's hard to NOT find some chick with low rise jeans showing off her new tatt.
Is this really a private, personal expression of inner beauty and deep thinking?
Would these people have gotten it if they hadn't seen everyone else with one?
When I see a a girl with a pic of her lower-back tattoo displayed in her profile, more often than not it seems to scream "look at me! look at me! I'm cool and edgy!"
THAT is the turn off, not the tattoo.
Kinda like when someone gets their tongue pierced and then EVERY picture they take for the next 6 months has to be of them with their tongue sticking out.

Posted: 10/24/2005 5:03:17 PM | Unfortunatly I have to agree with most of what you have above. There is alot of trendy tattoos. And alot of people who get them for just that reason. Male and Female. But I do have to say . If you have never gotten a Tattoo do not just asume you walk in and its drawn with magic clinging ink. There is a certain level of pain involved and for everyone its different. For women, The lower back that trails lateraly with the kidney area is a exceptionly painfull area to have done. Agian each woman has a high threshold but it still hurts like a mother ****** . So I still have to give them a little credit for gettin inked even if it was just so they could say look at me look at me. And the people you see who get inked to be cool will be the same ones waiting in line to get them removed in a few years. So they will pay for their temparary lift in stature.
