| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/24/2007 8:03:42 PM | I'm writing in regards to the responses to messages 10 etc from SingleGuy4911.
I'm assuming, that the sentences that appear in green are from an "admin" person or a "moderator"? I don't think that the man's question was answered.
A simple, "yes, they will be able to see that you viewed them", or "no, they will not be able to see that you viewed them during the period that you had selected to opt out." ...would have done nicely.
I don't get the reference to "proprietary info". Is this something I should innately understand? I only ask this in a sarcastic manner because I believe the replies were delivered similarly.
and the above is different from your prior phrase ...how?
Perhaps you all know each other and you know that the other is familiar with more about how this site works than most, but rather than ask a question when it has already been posed, I search the forums to see if an answer already exists. I wasn't specifically looking to ask this question, but having read it, I WAS looking forward to an answer.
I think the guy had a valid question for a lot of users.
Any more clarification would be appreciated.
Cheers. -Garden-Guy | |

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/24/2007 8:19:41 PM | Two choices:
Opt in, or Opt out.
If there are loopholes to the above - assume they will be closed.
"How" they will be closed is not going to be made public knowlege (hence: proprietary information).
...That simple. | |

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/24/2007 8:50:54 PM | Thanks for the same type of answer as before.
I will therefore assume that anybody that really would like to know how it is working will have to have a few friends on here and they will have to figure it out themselves by trying the different variations of opting out of the "viewed me" tracking system, and checking each other's profile. Then changing to opting in and seeing if they show up on the other's "viewed me" or not. That simple.
I will also assume that how this works may change at some point and that users may not know unless they continue to opt in, or opt out.
I could see where some people may be looking at this as a "loophole" situation. After I read the original question, I was thinking more along the lines of someone who doesn't want to have anybody know that they viewed them, but then one day see someone they DO want to know... so they want to opt in and let that person know that they are looking! The question is, are they now letting the 45 other people they happened to peek at the last couple of days also know that they're looking! Still don't think it's a bad question. Oh, well.
Cheers again.

Until I hear differently, I'm going to assume that "opting in" means that ALL (last 38) views are put in place.
then one day see someone they DO want to know... so they want to opt in and let that person know that they are looking!
...Send them a message, ...would be the obvious solution here.

and that's probably the main reason behind the feature - exploration of new frontiers!
Exactly and good point trappedonbayst.
I just checked mine and found some fish who had looked and couldn't have contacted me if they wanted to due to my blocks. Now I'm rethinking my blocks.
This Internet corner is devoted to making connections. This is just another way for those connections to be made. It will be such a shame if everyone 'opts out.' It's just something new and nothing to be frightened of.
I read profiles all the time and if the owners are now aware that I read it so what? And if you read mine good. That's why it is there. It took me forever to write and personally I want it to be read.
If you get contacted by persons you don't want to know then there are tools available to you to deal with that. Keep a text file of quick responses if you want to. Quick copy/paste, "I was just reading, get over yourself." Then block them.
We all get rejected here.

exactly, it's somewhat ironic how some forum dwellers (not all of course) lose most of their inhibitions when posting, yet a small feature as this aimed at helping them with their horizons, has them in analysis paralysis ...
best wishes with the new feature ...

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/25/2007 9:28:31 PM | I suspect those who get their knickers in a twist about being on a "favourites" list will also get stroppy about people looking at their profiles.
I think it's pretty cool. If it's bothersome to some folks, then maybe they should reconsider why they are here.
Bottom line : people are gonna look anyway, whether you know about it, or not.

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/27/2007 11:13:24 AM | I finally clued in!!! This is like 'who's interested in you' if they look at you, and you look back, you must both be interested, is that close?? Took me a while I'm starting to like it. | |
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/27/2007 11:18:52 AM |
This is like 'who's interested in you' if they look at you, to me it's: 'this is who saw your profile' if they were interested, wouldn't they contact you??? There's many people who log on to this site, many of them will see your profile. That doesn't mean they're interested in you. It just means they can probably use a computer.
and you look back, you must both be interested, is that close?? It just means: you looked back out of curiousity, to see you the people were, that looked at you.
Looking at profiles doesn't mean interested. It just means: looking at profiles. .......duh?

Well personally, I don't look back at people who I wouldn't check out in the first place...and no, if they were interested, they might wait and see if you are interested back before they mail you, makes it a little easier to make that first contact!!
duh!! (good luck with that attitude)

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/27/2007 11:52:35 AM |
I don't look back at people who I wouldn't check out in the first place.. well, unlike you, I'm unable to tell from a 1" picture, if I'd be interested in a person or not.
I suppose you are able tell a person's age, where they live, their interests, their goals in life, their marrital status, etc, all from a 1" picture????? All I can see is a 1" picture.
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/27/2007 12:03:12 PM | well, what they say on the forums (this one for example) is also a good indicator
anyhoo, enough time wasted on y....on this forum i mean, ciao!!

Of course you can somewhere, a bit of detective work like in that show the ring where she seen the lighthouse in the background of the pic and knew where to find the answers
JMO..I like the new feature, and much the same as all features, it's up to the perception of the user what it's function entails. I dont take someone who viewed me as anything except curiosity. If their interested then they know where to find me. As far as people who do base their interests solely on the 1" pic and a couple of over-used cliche's, well all the power to them. Plus their usually the ones making the pity/rant threads which entertain us all in the forums anyways (J/K..nice guys/girls finish first people)

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/27/2007 12:36:52 PM | ok, i know it sounded like i judged everyone by their pics...NOT TRUE!! I just had a thought, and figured i'd share it....I don't base anything on the pics, really...I'm more interested in their thoughts...sigh,....nevermind, i'll just be quiet about it....
I was saying i like the new option, and it's making things more fun!!

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/27/2007 1:37:23 PM | I like the feature, no doubt, but, I however also view it as "if they looked and not mailed me then there's my answer"
Glass half full?? lol
Ok I might be a pessimist!!! (sp)

| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/28/2007 11:25:48 AM | i know myself i look at profiles cuz the pic is to small or to see their intrests and i know somepeople are too shy to to act first so here is an idea... just for future thoughts- I had a thought if they incorporated a tiny check box that could let someone know that the person who viewed was intrested could be fun then if the box isnt checked there is less confusuion .... just a thought I notice a few ladies use the favorites list as a way of telling someone they are intrested so to add that feature would make it much easier i am thinking .... | |
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/28/2007 11:40:36 AM |
I had a thought if they incorporated a tiny check box that could let someone know that the person who viewed was intrested or you could just send them a messeage if you're interested Believe it or not, sending messages to people you're interested in, is the purpose of this site.
If someone needs to put a check mark to show that they're interested in me, I'll assume they're not smart enough to write a message. I don't want to sound mean to people who aren't smart enough to write messages, but.... if you aren't, then maybe meeting people online isn't what's best for you?
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/28/2007 11:46:47 AM | | i was thinking of the shy people thats all and just cuz your shy doesnt mean your not smart lol | |
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/28/2007 11:54:00 AM | ^^^ To be honest with you: when I first tried this site, I was too shy, to send messages to people. But I eventually got over it.
In my opinion: being able to send messages, is important if you want to try meeting people online. Just as talking approaching is important, if you want to get to meet people in a bar or in another public place.
|
| FAQ- New POF Feature- Viewed ME Posted: 1/28/2007 8:13:15 PM | Okay POF. I'm over my Shy. All kinds of guys have been cruisin past me. I am sure they have taken a peek because they want to find out a little more...then move on. No biggy. So, I'm gonna join the ranks and change my settings so those guys can see I've been looking at them too!
Thanks for continualy looking for ways to make this an even better experience than it already has been. And for now, I plan on doing some more
