I agree with the poster above...why is it necessary to know about that top line of viewers? Too confusing....Knowing how many times they have viewed someone would be a lot more helpful in ascertaining the level of interest and/or curiosity. That could give a shy person confidence in attempting communication.
I would prefer to be able to see the name of the person who viewed me. I remember some of the pics, but not always the details. Then, if I don't bother to click off the notice that I am viewing, they are able to see me viewing again. It might give them the opinion of added interest when it is merely curiosity.
For now, if I view someone and they are of any interest to me, I place them in my favorites so that I can find them at a future time. (Hey, it's nice to know there are ways of boosting our memory.) If they see me view and write, that's fine. But, I have seen, by their own admission, that many men do not make what they call the first move. I'm too old for games...If I have interest, I contact.
Of course, I have had to resist hurt feelings when receiving rejections, but...what's good for the goose must be good for the gander....in my opinion...

Then many People may be hesitant in viewing that Page, some even spooking out about being stalked. I agree, it would be a good Tool, but it may also have negative Consequences.

Click on the Image to view their Profile. You could also create a special Bookmark Folder in your Browser for such Users viewed. Perhaps the Admin will add a "Mouse Over" Function at some Point.
But, I have seen, by their own admission, that many men do not make what they call the first move.
Goes for both Sexes, too much Abuse in the Communications Arena, from both Ends.
Thanks so much, Ticket. I really appreciate your providing such helpful answers so quickly. I am not a complainer, but as you know, have given my "thoughts" on many occasions.
You all do a wonderful job here and I'm not going anywhere...It should delight you to know, too, that I will always endeavor to do my part in keeping up the caliber of this wonderful site. Now, I'm off to click on your recommended sites and LEARN.

Agreed!!!!! Ticket is very helpful and appreciated

Knitten, I LUV a man who's aggressive and has no problem w/communicating, but I think alot of these repeat viewers are either "shy" or in fear of rejection, I dunno 4 sure just my guess, it would be nice if they "did" say "hello" ...it's not like I'm rude/stuck-up & won't respond, sigh...
I have my mail setting set so other users are not allowed to see that I viewed them. On more than one ocassion I have received msgs from men telling me that they saw that I viewed their profile. Perhaps it's not working as well as POF thinks.

Perhaps They, as You ... do not understand exactly how the Viewed Me actually works:
I do understand how the feature is supposed to work. I'm no moron. Thanks (note the sarcasm) for being condescending and not really helping.
I'm merely trying to let someone know that the feature may not be working as intended so they can look into it.
I don't think as many of these people are thinking about ways they can bluff their way into contacting people as you might think. Try a more positive and pleasant approach. It may actually feel good.

Well, I guess there is no Point then for you to suggest this Feature isn't working if you know everything about, since this is the Reason for the Views.
(Posted for the 2nd Time now, they are meant to be read, so you won't have to mount a Pretense you know how it works, nor question anyone's Niceties, or ask the same Question over and over again.)
And if that isn't true, then you did view their Profile, either knowingly, accidentally, or in User Error.
I'm merely trying to let someone know that the feature may not be working as intended so they can look into it.
And I am telling you, as I did in my post above that your Statement of "Perhaps it's not working as well as POF thinks" is completely false. In addition, I also told you why its not possible for you to show on Anyone's Viewed Me Page if you have never viewed their Profile previously.
Thanks (note the sarcasm) for being condescending and not really helping.
"Not Helping" would be to ignore your post, instead of supplying you the actual Answer for your Query, which you simply haven't acknowledged or understood.
I don't think as many of these people are thinking about ways they can bluff their way into contacting people as you might think.
Not a "Matter of what you or I think".
Either you did look at their Profile, or You or They do not understand how the Viewed Me works. There are no other Options, as there are no other Possibilities.
If you never viewed their Profile, there is absolutely No Way you could show up on their Viewed Me Page. (no sarcasm intended, just the Facts Ma'am)
Try a more positive and pleasant approach. It may actually feel good.
Yeah, you are welcome for me taking the Time to find that Answer for you.
Perhaps it's not working as well as POF thinks.
Try something a little more courteous and less insinuative such as "Is it possible something is not working properly with it?" instead of suggesting backhanded Fallacies.
In this Fashion you'll actually learn something, instead of riddling yourself with false Assumptions.
Thank you for taking the time to respond, however it is unnessecary to be condescending and seemingly defensive. A simple question to find out whether or not I had actually viewed their profiles and then a "Thank you, we will look into this." would have been sufficient. Customer service and manners go a long way....even on a free site. If it weren't for us, there would be no advertising dollars generated. And I do appreciate this site very much. That is why I bothered to report what I had experienced. I did not see where I could report it other than in the forums.
Now to clarify my first post, I did view their profiles but, since I have my settings set to not allow other users to see that I viewed their profile, they shouldn't have been able to see that. They then emailed me stating that they saw that I viewed their profiles. I never said that I didn't view their profiles. Again, I have my settings set to not allow users to see that I viewed their profiles. Some men whose profiles I have viewed, emailed me stating that they had seen that I viewed their profile. They should not have been able to see that. I hope that is clear now.
I apologize for any confusion my first post may have caused. I really was merely trying to point out a potential flaw so that it may possibly be resolved. Not trying to irritate anyone. I had read all of the posts in this thread including links to other posts as you felt the need to post twice above. I understand how the feature is supposed to work. I don't wish to be spoken to as though I'm stupid. I did not insinuate anything in my 1st post, hence the word "perhaps", as in maybe, possibly. If no one cares to look into the possibility of the feature not working as intended, then so be it. I did what I felt was my part in bringing up what I had encountered.
If the feeling is that the feature is perfect, perhaps a post could be pinned to the beginning of this thread stating such and giving notification that reporting potential flaws is pointless. That way I may not have wasted my time or yours since I had read all of the posts in this thread prior to posting the 1st time.
As a secondary test, you could view the profile of someone who recently added you to their favorites list (for example). One whose profile you haven't viewed before. Then message them and ask if you showed up on their "Viewed Me" page.
That would be a Front End Test of the Viewed Me Feature, and I made no Reference in my Post about that whatsoever.
I wouldn't be the least surprised if the occasional Click on someone's Profile simply wouldn't register in that User's 'Viewed Me' Page. I wasn't talking about that at all. I am sure, when the Site bursts at the Seams, overwhelmed with Traffic, that maybe 1 out of 10, or a 100 may not register at all. I have never heard of it, but I wouldn't say its impossible at all.
But, showing up on Someone's 'Viewed Me' Page when you have never viewed their Profile is an absolute Impossibility.
There is no other Way to show on anyone's 'Viewed Me' Page without first clicking on their Profile ... no Way at all.
Impossible.
The Database cannot harvest any Users, no such Function.
If the 'Viewed Me' Setting is Off in the Mail Settings, it can not register that User on any 'Viewed Me' Page.
There is no Way for Users to test for the Back End.
Only the Admin under controlled Conditions would be able to test it, but then why would he do that for something that is not possible in the first Place.
This new edition would be good if you had the option to deicide whether or not you wanted that person to know you have just viewed their profile. General browsing should not register as being viewed.
Admin, I think you are on the right track with this, but it needs to be more personalised.
I couldn't have put it any better myself. Which is why I have mine switched off too at the moment, I am not complaining because like some other people have already said it lets you see people that you didn't know were on P.O.F. but I would never take it seriously, that is why like you said, it would be great if you could look at a profile first and then decide somehow if you want that person to know that you have viewed them or not for example this question could be on everybodys profile with a simple yes or no , I hope something like this will be possible in the near future, I would definitely use it then, I am sure everybody would.
As to the "last online" row at the top... some people are mistaking it to mean that I viewed their profiles again... I'm getting messages from people that I told "sorry not interested" and some that were nasty to me saying "stop viewing my profile". People just do not read fine print. That part of the feature was not a useful addition.
I understand this feature completely but I can understand some people being a bit confused by it, I can't help finding it hilarious though the fact that people think that they a being viewed all the time by the same person, I know it's been said before but I will say it anyway for people that still don't understand it.
The the top row of people is a list of people that have viewed you before, if you are wondering why they keep changing order it is because it is letting you know who was online most recent so everytime that somebody goes online here and now who have looked at you before, that person will always be first in the top row and that is why everyone in that top row keeps moving, disappearing and reappearing. Personally I think this particular feature is pointless because it doesn't tell me anything I need or want to know.
If you still don't understand I will just say once more only try and keep it shorter this time. The top row is just showing you they are online, it as absolutely nothing do do with them looking at your profile more than once. Hope this helps a little for those confused.
I guess Im a little confused here, If no one views my profile, theres no reason to be on POF, I no longer do searches, its the same faces day in and day out.

You don't have to worry about that, people are looking at your profile, it all sounds more confusing than it really is.

This Thread is not so much about viewing Profiles, but rather the Viewed Me Page itself, and whether you would like:
Other Users to see that you have viewed their Profile, or ...
You being able to see who has viewed your Profile.
Hi There Just wondering why the who viewed me doesnt changeon the top?It usually changes? Just to let you know. Is there something wrong? Please let me know. Thanks
I am being viewed by a former male member, then receiving agressive and threatening phone calls concerning my profile. How do I stop males and un-registered people viewing my profile?

a "former" member? I am unaware of anyone being able to view your profile, or rather showing up on your "who's viewed me" page unless they are registered members. How are they doing that?
As far as receiving phone calls, short of changing your number, block the number that is calling you. POF has no control over who telephones you.

Its not about "un-registered people", but because you made some personal Infos such as your Phone Number or Place of Work available to a User/other Users. Do not place Information into your Profile that could potentially allow someone to contact you directly at Home or at Work.
You hit a bull-z-eye! Of course you hit "update settings". I have experienced this very same thing. If I stop to read a profile for what-ever reason (I either liked their profile name, or I thought they had an interesting face or a handsome face), THEN I also see the exact same men all lined up under the heading of who had "VIEWED ME". This is NOT a coincidence. I do not believe that the feature works. I have made certain to click the NO selection, too! I have also seen men look at my profile and then watched as they "deleted" themselves from my view. I would rather have this feature then not have it though. I just thought it important enough to express my 1st public opinion on POF.
It took me a while to find this thread, but has been well worth the read.
I received an email this morning from someone I had exchanged a few emails with a couple of weeks ago. He thinks I'm stalking him. sigh... not so. He just didn't understand how the top line of the 'viewed me at some point' worked. I replied with an explanation but it made me rather uncomfortable that even though I haven't been back to his profile since our last communication, he thought I was still stopping by. He wanted to know--since I seemed to still be interested--if I wanted to see his naughty pictures.
Guys... IMHO--this line serves little purpose and seems to cause more problems than it is worth. See also MSG's 89 and 99.
I like the viewed me option. Just get rid of the 'viewed me at some point' line!
I think its a great feature. However,I have the same woman view me sometimes twice a day and when I send them an email introducing myself, they don't respond At first I thought it was a way of Plenty of Fish to randomly put people in your viewed you area to peak interest in the site. Is there a time frame you can see when they do view you? I have met a few ladies on here and several reponses. Buy why come into my recently viewed window all the time if you are not looking for a response? Makes me suspicious of the feature and its validity.
Hello! I have suscribed myself here a long time ago but noone has seen my profile. I am not interested in people from my own location. I couldnt find any contact to solve my doubths. Could you please help me? i would like some other people not from colombia to see my profile. Thanks beforehand. MONA
My top row of the who viewed me will not change. When before it was constantly changing. Have you changed something? Please email me and let me know. Do I need to change something. It's no fun this way. I want it back the old way. HELP beckiesdream
