| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 12:47:05 PM | That's a bunch of BS. They choose not to do that. You want a college education? Go join the military, and quit ****ing about how it's everyone elses fault but your own.
So BM says everyone has the choice of attending a university...IF they join the military.
What if they fail their physical? What if they don't WANT to join the military? What if they're disabled? ... or weren't able to graduate from high school? What if their learning skills aren't up to university level?
Lotta holes in that theory, BM
Oh.. and I think Watchman doesn't like my analysis of the only way everyone could be paying the same amount of the tax burden *LMFAO*
Watchie? Tell me how else it could be done?

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 12:50:02 PM | "People can work their butts off and still get no where due to things they have no control over."
Good point Spank. Though we all may have opportunities for success, there are no guarantees. Of course some people will become discouraged.

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 12:51:48 PM | Then that is where you should try to eduacate yourself.
Drop out of school... you can get a GED Fail the physical... try another avenue Disabled... They have a better chance at getting the help than someone that is not.
Allways strive to do your best. Dont fall just because you have failed at one thing keep trying and you can succeed.

What if they fail their physical?
exercise.
What if they don't WANT to join the military?
Well, the OPPORTUNITY is there if they change your mind.
What if they're disabled?
Someone so disabled that they can't join the military gets a social security check every month. Did that "disability" keep them from studying hard in high school to earn a scholarship?
... or weren't able to graduate from high school?
Lol, weren't able? Just.. because? Well, umm, try harder?
What if their learning skills aren't up to university level?
Then I guess they should study.
Elwood, these "holes" you are listing aren't even "holes" they're just excuses why it's ok for someone to not shoulder their own resonsibility.

Don't be embarassed by a school janitor again watchman!!!
Oh I'm not embarrassed, (and its spelled 'embarrassed') I would certainly expect you to be better at cleaning bathrooms than you are at economics.
On the other hand, since economics are an integral part of my business, I would expect to be much more proficient at math and accounting then I am at cleaning the floor...

Work for a company called HCR Manorcare. You work for them as a caregiver for Alzheimer's patients, and they will pay for your tuition to go to school and become a nurse. Pretty sweet, huh? They have places all over the country, probably one very close to you. There are lots of employers that offer things like this. And, not to be rude, or condescending, but our society offers opportunities for these things. If you screw up somehow, and can't take advantage of those opportunities, then it's no one elses fault than your own. No one forced you to go to jail or have a child. Nothing personal.

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 1:14:54 PM | If you're not eligable or don't want ot join the military, you can always pay for school other ways. Joining the peace corp or teaching for head start can help erase student loan debt. But even with student loan debt, it's still an investment in you.
Not to mention all the grants and scholarships out there. It's about trying and not giving up. One thing I've learn in this life is that a lot of smart people fail because they give up. They don't realize how important persistance is. There is always a way to navigate the beauracracy so long as you don't give up.

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 1:15:15 PM | Watchman: since you are so proficient at economics, why can't you figure out that 50% of the taxpayers who now pay 1% of the tax burden would have to pay 98 times that to pay as much as the top 50%?
other than catching my typo on "embarrass" I think you're a fake
Oh, Dr. Kadmus, thanks for spelling eligible as "eligable". This means watchman has something to pick on someone else about while he ignores their logic

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 1:16:54 PM | I was in states custody because of an abusive homelife, not criminal activity.
And no one forced me to have a child correct, but I forced them to give me custody; so I take responsibility for that one. Given that I never planned on having any children or at least not raising them, I never saw the point of any oppurtunities.

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 1:24:24 PM | I think also there is a distinction to be made about the difference between your 'quaility of life ' and your income.
Fo sho we live better then previous generations. VCR's , indoor plumbing and electrcity, free clinics, cars...
It is possible to have all these things on income assistance.
Its the fear, the violence, the disenfranchisement that makes people feel poor. The percieved lack of opportunity.

| Why do people try and live off of minimum wage? Posted: 4/13/2005 1:29:23 PM | (Numbers from Forbes 400, October 11, 1999) The combined net worth of the Forbes 400 topped $1 trillion in September 1999, up from $738 billion 12 months earlier, for an average one-year increase of $655 million each ($12.6 million per week). Less than one-fifth of that increase ($48.4 billion) would have been enough to bring every American up to the official poverty line, leaving each of the Forbes 400 with an average one-year increase of $534 million ($10.2 million per week).
