What can I say, I love dogs! I can't imagine life without at least one.
I talk about mine a fair amount so it's quite clear from the outset that I have them and that they're important to me. They don't sleep with me anymore because they are bed hogs and restless sleepers. They have their own room and don't roam the house when I'm not here...

why you ask...

http://www.osbornejenks.com/images/Naughty-Dog-Tackle-big.jpg

Not my dog, not my house, but I can relate. Mine would blame it on the cat but we don't have one... I think some are cute enough, especially the paws, but I'm allergic.

When I get a pet, it's for life... theirs. I find it hard to imagine a situation where I would "give one away" for any reason. Imagine this: I have a male terrier mix I rescued at 6 weeks, he peed in my house at least once every day for 10 years, you think that didn't get old? Quite frankly, it pissed me off to no end but I wouldn't abandon him because of it. Turns out he and his bro had sibling rivalry issues; his bro became quite ill and two weeks before he died, the peer quit peeing in the house. It's been 10 months now and not one pee.

If I somehow found myself with someone that couldn't manage a modicum of kindness for the pups, I'd get rid of the someone, not the dogs.

i love my dog. My dog loves everyone. Although he'll bark whenever someone comes to the house, he doesn't bit or anything. He jumps and licks. I couldn't imagine anyone not falling under the spell of "the Sulu-nator"

However, I know the flip side. My friend has a chuihuhua mix. small dog. 5 pounds wet. And I like to call this dog Devil Dog (DD for short). The first time I met her, she launched at me and latched her sharp teeth on my purse. When her "grandma" got her off of me, she commenced barking like mad. She barks at my 60 pound dog and bullies him. Just really unruly. I love animals but if any guy had a pet like DD I woud run....to the phone to call the Dog Whisperer. But the guy would have to be willing to work at it since I would be.

But I would never get rid of Sulu. He's my baby boo boo bear.

Too many pets are given away for the lamest of reasons....if you are not serious about keeping a pet for its entire life, then don't get one...my boys are here to stay with me...i rescued them from the pound. I've had animals all my life...I have to be around them. When the world lets you down, they are there to comfort you. When your friends and family don't have time for you, who does? animals give unconditional love...

as for the woman who says they should be on a farm...well there aren't a lot of farms to go around...I have a big yard...my cats roam around in it...yes they do kill things from time to time...and for the ladies with sensitive noses...did you notice that people have smells too? body odors? colognes and perfumes, etc...I mean what else do you cut out of your life due to your sensitive noses? I agree that dogs have a typical dog odor it seems...but cats are pretty unscented...unless you're talking about potty odors if they have an accident indoors....mine use the yard...

do you guys have kids...they're pretty damn smelly too at times....haha....baby spit up is one of the grossest smells...and once my daughter spit up right in my face...and when potty training, she peed all over the house sometimes from accidents...threw up anywhere the mood hit her...

guess what? i didn't get rid of her either!

I have cats in the house, and horses (not in the house), and plan to get a dog. I like animals, and am not likely going to be compatible with someone who does not like animals.
My house does NOT smell like a litter box, but I bet there's hardly a day that you would fail to find a cat or horse hair on me somewhere. It's okay if others don't like animals but we won't likely end up playing a big part in each others' lives.

There's a reason I've chosen the moniker I have and the pictures in my profile, it's to let evryone who looks at my profile know what they are getting into if they want to meet me. My dog is large, 130lbs large, yet a gentle giant which gets along with every other pet, including other people's pets. But I will not give him up for anyone and if someone thought they were a perfect match for me then that would include my dog.

I'm also very concerned for other people's health if they do have alergies, since my dog rides in the truck with me anyone who gets into the truck is first asked if they are alergic to dogs or animal fur, don't what the attendant at "aircare" to expire while testing my truck now. (hate to fail and have to pay all over again)

heh, a girl i was seeing a little while ago has a kitten. the kitten wouldnt come out of hiding the first couple hours i was there. then he finally came over to check me out.

girl says 'oh you are about to get attacked'. next thing you know the kitten is laying on my shoulder purring away. the girl pouted and called the cat a traitor lol.

we had to lock the kitten out of the bedroom because he always had to investigate the goings ons, up close and personal. Then there was the typical wake up call......a claw through my big toe.

animals love me....i am...the cat wheeeesperer

I agree that either your partner accepts your pets or they get the door. I was once in a serious relationship. He told me that to be engaged, I would have to get rid of the two tattoos I had and the three ferrets that I was currently owned by, or else he could not move on with the relationship. This is a man who already owned a cat and dog. My ferrets loved me even when I get out of bed with messy hair and all. So I told him if that is his choice, the door is open. Got rid of him and got another ferret, and now have two more tattoos. He is still single (no suprise there) the ferret that came home with me at that time is geriatric but still loved (the others have passed due to old age) and I have two more tattoos. All my animals are well cared for and all tattoos tastfull and can be covered when at work or at social function, if neccessary
I now have two cats and a dog in addition to the ferret, so that is sometimes more difficult to find someone who likes them all. All rescues, my dog was dumped on a busy highway during an ice storm, and was saved and now is a therapy dog, and loves all animals and people. Most people hold it against her that she is a pit bull, until she shows them that she is sweet and thinks she is a teacup poodle. Most guys wont date women who own a pit. Guess who ever I end up with will have to be a true animal lover. Until them I will be content in the knowledge that my animals love me better than any human right?

This is easy.

Pets FIRST.....the latest, new romantic fling is somewhere down on the list....but pets first!

Pets are waayyyyyyyyyyyyy more reliable than new romantic flings, pets can be counted on to give and receive love and happiness and make me laugh.

People come and go like the wind....people can be very evil, deceptive, self-serving, and stab you in the back without blinking an eye. Pets aren't sneaky.....they is what they is....a big ball of LOVIN'...simple, pure and honest (with a little bit of peein' on the rug).

If someone doesn't like my pets then we will not get along at all, so why force the issue?
Besides I'm always a bit suspicious of people who don't appreciate animals....I don't really trust those people. I'm not saying they are all evil...but it's a big red flag to me there is something serious that I don't relate to in their personality and certainly that we will not get along very well in a relationship.

MY love for animals comes from a deeply held value of mine...love and respect of all life....and I can't pretend to be anything else.

When I find a man who is capable of simple, pure, honest lovin then I'll keep him too....and yes I'll even let him pee on the rug once in a while! hehehehehee

I have friends who have pets and their bf's or gf's have told them to get rid of their pets. That to me is a controlling issue and should not be tolerated. First is requesting to get rid of someone's pets and then I wonder what else someone has to get rid of to 'satisfy' their significant other. I believe it is wrong to tell someone to get rid of their animals and it is a good sign to get rid of this person. It's definitly a red flag.

If someone didn't like my animals, they wouldn't be a friend of mine. My animals are true friends and great companions. If someone didn't accept my pets that means they don't accept me. If they want to know me, they better accept my cat.

I was seeing someone last year whose dog seemed to love me more than her. That should've told me something right there.

Bama - not all pets smell when you pet them! Some breeds are more prone than others. But if you find a guy you really like to date and his animal smells, then maybe you should mention to him that if he feeds an "all natural" dog or cat food, they wouldnt smell. I have a ranch and I breed great danes. You can pat any one of my animals and your hand would not smell of dog. And I am telling the truth!!! That's because they dont eat the grocery store "by products and dyes" type food. Its just like perfume - it soaks into your skin, well, so does stinky by-products and chemicals in those cheap brands of foods. I am sure I can not promote the dog and cat food I feed my animals on this site, but a hint - its made in California and has no by products, corn (which is hard to digest) and no dyes. The cat food has a yucca derivitive that kills 58% of the urine odor, and....both foods have Sunflower Oil for a nice shiny coat. It makes a BIG difference WHAT you feed your animals (and it gets rid of the "gassy" problem, too!!!)
Off that subject, I'd love to meet a guy who sleeps with his dogs - it only goes to show you what a truly compassionate person he is, however, hopefully when he has a gal in his bed, the dog sleeps on the floor, and he changes his sheets often!!!!!!!!!!

Get rid of my cat, no matter how annoying the little hellion can be sometimes?

Hell, no. Not in a million years. Someone has a problem with Diomedes, someone has a problem with me. There's the door, bub.

BlueEyedbbw - More power to ya! You sound just like me (which is a good thang!!!)
My son has a ferret, and we have many animals, most recently a wonderful addition is a pit bull rescue dog, who was so torn up and malnourished he couldnt stand on his back legs (i thought he got hit by a car.) It took over a month for him to let me pet him and gain his trust, but now he is the most beautiful, muscled out dog ever,a bit timid but oh so kind. And you know who he likes to sleep with - 2 six month old kittens!! He picks them up and takes them over to the hay bale in the carport and snuggles up to both! When anyone says anything about my pit bull, I tell them that there are more labrador retrievers at the pound that get put down than pits due to their agressive nature. The local news did a broadcast with statistics recently on the city shelter so I am not making this up. I believe if you give a dog love and dont abuse them, they will love you back, just like raising kids - if you beat them, they will grow up with issues that could explode. My ex boyfriend and I were in the verge of getting back together until I rescued this pit bull. He told me that the dog would turn on me. Well, all I have to say on the subject is.....I still have my BullBaby !!!!!

I have a dog and 2 cats who are as much a part of my family as anyone else. I purposely mentioned in my profile that I love my pets. I feel they are a part of me, and if a man can't accept them, he doesn't accept me.

Barring allergies, phobias or any number of legitimate reasons why someone may not like animals, I feel if a person does not like pets, or can't get along with them, they are not the type of person I want to be around. Animals are a very good judge of character, so if your pet does not warm up to your partner, I'd say "time to go Joe".

I would not keep a pet if I was allergic to them and I would not like anyone asking me to suffer. Everyone chooses.

I was actually in this situation. He was allergic to my cats. It wasn't enough of a reason for me to stop seeing him, but made things difficult (as he would get sick of he came over to my house).

I would NEVER give up my pets for a person... no matter who that person was. If he doesn't like animals or kids, then I don't think there is a point in persuing because those are two things that are very important to me.

My guy went up to his friend's house today who has 2 dogs. He was sneezing and sniffling on the phone from it. I told him that I dont keep any pets and didnt plan to. I think I sensed his relief. One more plus point.
