| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 2:52:01 AM | I belong to 419eater. Here is a site link below -Facing Africa-and about a particularly nasty scammer. http://www.facingafrica.org/en/default.htm If you have scam mail then PM me and I will be glad to pass it onwards , or take on a bait with it. I know what I am doing. NEVER be tempted to bait a scammer yourself.Do not bait someone from a dating site. They have your profile. Do not bait from a hotmail or yahoo address, use gmail or fastmail where no ISP is shown. Learn how to check headers for the origin of the mail . Join a baiting site like 419eater and learn the ropes. You are dealing with very very DANGEROUS criminals. Above all do not send information about innocent 3rd parties, and mark fake documents clearly so they can't be reused on a victim. Don't take on financial contracts and job offers since any cheque you get is false. Just believe me on this. Baiting is not just a game, it is serious, and could have serious consequences if your identity is discovered. | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:00:20 AM | | I have never received and kind of scam or spam mail on pof and lots on paid and other free sights and found that the administrators didn't really seem all that concerned. | |
|
| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:28:39 AM | | Yes and so far I have found one particular Russian on three paid sites, claiming to be 3 different people from different countries. | |
|
| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:51:55 AM | You don't have a 4th option. I personally have never run into any of those scams on either one. I guess I just don't look like a good mark. | |

It will be a Russian gangster/ or several, with a large mailbox. They often use "The Bat". They claim they are in Internet cafes, they are not. Do not tell them you know they are scammers and how you know, ie. Don't help them become better scammers. Report them, tell them nothing, and leave them alone. You are dealing with very dangerous criminals. This equally applies to ladies who may get scammed.

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 4:10:06 AM | Gee!!! A russian women contacted me on yahoo once and said I was her dream boy and all she needed was five hundred dollars for me to send to her in NYC of all places! So she could come to me. And we could be together and she would love me forever. I thought about it, she was very beautiful. So I ask her for her credit card number so I could come and visit her in new york because I don't normally give five hundred dollars to total strangers. She never answered me back. These people are the lowest of the low lifes. Praying on innocent people trying to make a connection with someone. I hope they all get what they deserve, nothing.!!!!!!!!!! | |

I hope they all get what they deserve, nothing. Msg 242^^^
One hopes they get something like an experienced scambaiter, who will suck their computer time with junk attachments, send them on long trips to WU offices to collect non existent money, have them hanging around airports for hours to meet someone who will not arrive. And play with their mind. THAT is what they deserve!

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 4:45:35 AM | | I've been approached on several occasions on other dating sites as well as myspace by men who are obviously not who they say they are. Mostly their photos look like models and they have the same "background" story of both their parents being killed when they were young. They have no siblings and they use phrases such as "an angle sent from God"...incorrect spelling for angel. In one case he used the fact that I'm a christian to try to get me to send him money...ladies beware. | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 5:04:10 AM | | I have seen the Nigerean scams run rampant on Hot or Not. Apparently they do not filter their system as well as POF. I have had great conversations with different women and have yet to run into the infamous Russian or Nigerean scam.......Great work!!! | |
|
| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 5:20:43 AM | | Not a user of paid sites but these scams are everywhere. I am perpetually shocked that they still attempt them. They're creative but blatently crooked. | |
|
| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 5:29:45 AM | I've seen quite a few profiles of men who seem like scammers on M-a-t-c-h and on only a few on other sites. And I've also seen a couple here on POF.
If I have even a glimmer of an inkling that they are just "too good to be true" I pass them by (especially if they have all professional photos and no candid shots). One of the things I look for is "inconsistencies" and also outrageous "requirements" such as, "looking for ages 13-99"...LOL! or "looking for forever" on the first chat or "believe everything I say" and "don't ask me any questions." Ha! Not likely!
What I like about POF is the IM feature which allows you to make a quick decision as to wheter or not you'd like to continue contact with a person. Common sense and regard for my own safety compel me to ask many questions. If I am suspicious, I ask a lot of direct questions. Some of the inconsistencies I look for are in discussions about children, where they live/work, their religious beliefs. When a profile shows Catholic as the religion, but a man says he is Christian, then says he goes to a Pentecostal church, and he used to be a Methodist, although he is an evolutionist...well, none of that adds up. And then the same man says "I am from the UK" and "I am a contractor who owns my own business" and "I travel often to Africa" or "Didn't I tell you I have a charity?" or every other word is either "yeah" or "baby" and can't spell to save his life, then chances are, at least in my book, that he is a scammer.
While I don't expect everyone to know the difference between "too, to" and "their, there, they're" or "your, you're, yore" (except for my graduate students, of course) it's important to be able to carry on a simple conversation with someone without glaring inconsistencies, in spite of spelling errors, which I, too, make from time to time, and I'm a writer. (^_^)
Good luck to everyone in your search!

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 5:45:00 AM | I have ran across several 'Nigerian' scammers on a lot of different sites, and learned very quickly how to spot them. I actually received a cashiers check from a man "stuck in Nigeria"...it was for $6500, and I kept it as a memento that I scammed a scammer, lol. He was very persistent about me sending him money...even enough to send and insure the check, but I stood my ground and refused just to see how far he would go. | |

bbpeoplemeet democraticpeoplemeet seniorpeoplemeet genxpeoplemeet republicanpeoplemeet marriagemindedpeoplemeet
and their other sister sites, etc etc etc
There are just too many profiles that have the professional posed pix of people (models) from Africa. The scams that are successful probably pay to keep the sites running.

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 6:03:57 AM | | I've had several 'marriage proposals' or offers from Christians sites where they seem to prey a lot. The latest joke correspondence is with a 'lovely' guy from Lagos (off MySpace) who wants to marry me and be my love - but most of all wants a letter from me inviting him to come over here as my husband. His father who is a Christian minister will of course forge the 'marriage certificate'. Who is he kidding hee hee...... | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 6:06:21 AM | | Hi l had a guy on another site that supposedly lived in Arcadia, CA but was doing some kind of contract work in Nigeria. His picture was very handsome and he started calling me on the phone. He was charming. He sent me flowers and a teddy bear. Next thing I knew he has some kind of story about not being able to cash his checks over there. I played along since I knew this was a definite scam. He finally asked me for $275 dollar and I just said no. Guess what never heard from him again. At least I got to enjoy the flowers and teddy bear. | |
