How do you guys know that all the people committing these scams are Nigerians, because they say that there are Nigerians does not mean that they are. Some of these people maybe from other country but claiming to be Nigerians because of all the bad press about Nigerians lately. Even here in the states they are scammers everywhere. Is your fault if you get scammed, because some people are very greedy and they are looking for an easy way out. I cannot believe people still fall for these scams anyway. Thanks | |

i like to talk with them for weeks on end and as soon as they mention there sick mother i just say GOODBYE SUCKERS because i know what they all want..
and its not my gorgeous self..lol..

I have generally told them I think we should go to Africa and shhot all the thieving scam artists over there. They generally disappear quickly after that....lol | |

Posted: 2/4/2007 10:30:01 AM | I have not been here long enough to find out how often the scammers are here. As for the paid sight, sadly the women who write me have all fit into 3 catagories:
1. The overseas looking for money.
2. Nice overseas looking for friendship/relationship, but the difficulties of a longdistance relationship.
3. Locals who write, IM, maybe call and eventually we agree to meet... however on the night of the date an emergency suddenly shows up. They either dissapear, or (and yes, like clock work) write exactly 3 days after our canceled date, appologize, restart the friendship and it continues until the next time we plan to actually meet. Some go through several cycles of this before dissapearing.
I am hoping to meet a lady to have a relationship with and the fact that so many end up being a rerun of these three stories is very frustrating. | |

I have a plan to buy all of them their airfare and charter them on the same plane back to Nigeria.............with only enough fuel to provide a layover in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.  | |

Posted: 2/4/2007 11:13:55 AM | No! Sounds confusing, I know. I put up a profile on MatchDoctor.com some time ago, and never got a reply, so I took it down. Around Christmas 2006, I decided to put it back up there, and within the first few days I received an email. Of course, I fell for it. To make a long story short, this person and I began visiting back and forth via emails and messenger. Within two days, this person was saying how he loved me, he wanted to marry me, etc......and I was getting suspicious. But I still didn't want to believe it. UNTIL----he told me where he was living: Nigeria. RED FLAGS WENT UP so I began to research my fears. I continued to speak to him, but holding him off on his plans, etc. He never asked for money - or even for me to open him an account. However; everything else was definitely that of a scammer.
Finally, after 3 weeks of this back and forth - I confronted him on the phone and online. I hung up on him AND blocked all of his nicknames on messenger and email addresses. I then saved our conversations from messenger and emails. I printed them out, and along with all the bogus information this person had given me (including a phone number), I handed it over to my local authorities. They did a trace on it, and the telephone number was listed from Lagos, Nigeria. The person I was talking with said he was in London on business, but using his personal cell phone.
Anyway, I was lucky in some ways. I didn't give this person any money, but he did take something from me. I'm humiliated because I let my guard down because of the crap he was spewing on me. All the words of love and adoration is nothing but an act - and he took my capabilities of being able to read someone away. I'm not sure if I'll be trusting again, but I'm working on it. I joined an awesome site on Yahoo for those who have been approached or been scammed, and knowing I'm not alone and have someone to talk with is very helpful!
As for this site.....I've not seen anyone who MIGHT resemble a scammer. And I've not been approached by anyone like that, either. Most of the time, their profiles sound "too good to be true," and that's the first thing that catches my eye.

Posted: 2/4/2007 11:17:54 AM | i have fell for this before, however i did get worried when she mistook austria for australia, and she was saying she live in austria and going to go sunbathing on the beach, in december ! this was on yahoo messenger, i had to inform my isp who informed the police. didnt hear from them again, i have made a few mistakes though and mistook real people for these scams, i think it is such a shame these low lifes want to hurt people that are hurt, that they cant find that someone special.

I think it's a combination of a few different things, yes, there are plenty of scammers out there, there's no doubt about that. I also think that when dealing with paid sights it could even be the site ownership trying to entice you to get in and pay just so you can read your message. I think this site is definately looking out for it's member's best interest and for that we thank you.

It's amazing that they could be so stupid and uncreative. I mean surely they must realize that if they use the same scam on hundreds of individuals, eventually folks are going to figure it out. Also, as darnoc so brilliantly observed, they all share the same speech patterns, which are very obvious to say the least. They say things like, "I the gentle caring woman seeks for myself the loyal man." etc. In conclusion, who ever falls for these scams should be ashamed of his or herself. | |

Lately my Yahoo IM gets notes from West African women(?), and some Mexican women(I'm in San Diego). They send all kinds of pictures...the latest African IM wanted me to re-mail some "blood pressure monitors" from my home to Africa. Weird. | |

Posted: 2/4/2007 11:28:51 AM | would definitely agree with darnoc that typically these scammers usually have profiles that are listed as coming from the US and that the grammar error laden English is usually the big clue as to the fake profile
the only other consistent thing that I've noticed is that they tend to only have one posted picture or a picture of really poor quality | |

It's choppy and it sounds like it was written by a three year old. This is how these scam artists write. Study it, learn it, make it yours. I have been contacted by Four Scammers, all of which claimed to be living in the US... When u traced the Hotmail addresses, all came from Nigeria.. So suppose thats why people say it, coupled by the fact they tell ya there from Nigeria, and if you were sending cash they would ask ya to western union it to Nigeria, as an X partner worked for WU, and they had many reports of scams leading there and Russia. But will say it is happening to people all over the world, by people from all over the world... Sad but true!...lol | |

Whether they are scams or not I don't know as I am not interested in anyone outside of the U.S. If I receive just a view I delete it. If I get a letter,I write back saying thanks but no thanks,and then delete it. I receive them from the 2 paying sites I'm on;not from this site. I have no idea why this is. If you're looking for people to write to,I would say to be very careful. If you're looking for a love interest,I don't understand writing to someone in another state or country. And don't ask me for money-that's not ever going to happen. | |
