| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 1:45:44 PM | I came across a scam on yahoo personals. He said he was born in England, was living in Austin, TX but at the time was working in Africa as a petro-chemical engineer. We talked on IM for weeks, boy did he have his story all together. He said he was coming back to Austin in a couple of weeks but he had to get a license to export oil from Africa. As his clients hadn't paid him yet and he needed the money for this "license" and his flight home, if I could help him out with "some funds". I said I didn't feel comfortable doing that as I had never met him. Right after that his profile was gone, his IM didn't work and his "home" email address was no longer valid. Now I get alot of junk email about winning the English lottery, being a representative of some chinese bank and have been chosen to be a beneficiary of someones estate in England because they don't like their family or want to help the needy. So everyone be careful if someone asks you for money!! | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 1:48:47 PM | | I was slightly caught up in what ended up being a scam from a paid site. I was reverted to chat on yahoo. When i found out it was a scam i reported it to Match.com and Yahoo and received a response from neither. Now this scam while it involved an Amercian man supposed weeks later stranded in Nigeria it was all staged from the U.S. I received a collect call at 6am one morning and accepted the charges. Later called Bell , the police and so on but to no avail. What i got out of it ended up being a 7.85 long distance charge from Iowa(not nigeria) and the knowledge to watch fro these things in the future. | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 1:58:48 PM | | I thought Nigeria was supposed to be such a poor country! How come the women there all have computers? (Hi, I am from Nigeria and due to the death of a parent I have no money to take care of my other parent who is in a clinic with health problems. I am stuck in a hotel and the manager took all my papers. Can you send me money?) I have heard all their stories. I got so fed up with their stupid read from a script talk that once I said "sure I will send you money". I got an address of one of the ones from Nigeria and I sent her $1000 but in Monopoly money! lol I wonder if she tried to spend it! I think the worst site of all for scammers is Datelux. For any Nigerians who may have been lucky enough to find their way into this great POF site, read my words! I CANNOT BE SCAMMED!! | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 2:34:35 PM | The worst site I had scammers on is
www.discovervancouver.com - they claim to be "the only free singles dating in Vancouver", obviously they don't know anything!
I would get 2 or 3 offers a week, from African places mostly.
Don't bother with signing up to this site, as they have very little database to draw from as well.
POF Rocks! | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 2:39:38 PM | Hi I have receive several emails from so called scammers. I usually just take it with a grain of salt and just talk to find out whats going on to get a laugh. I usually find the ones that say they are from russia are usually ones that are in thier late 20s. First I am 55 and not into kids. I want my women to be at least 38 to 53. Now the photos are always very lovely ladies and most could be used as models. excuse me but not all ladies are that lovely. Not that I am complaining of thier pictures. I even had one send me flowers and candy. well the funny thing was I am a diabetic and won't eat candy unless I am in need to raise my sugar level in a hurry. and flowers to me well it was a lovely jester but I asked for an address to send back an item to show my graditude and was not given one the subject was passed over real fast. I did check out the place that the candy came from and the flowers. heres a good one it was Godiva. I usually get emails from all sites on this but usually it is after I have given my other email addy. Little be known I don't give the one I use for personal mail except to certain people after getting to know them. as far as a phone number only three people on POF that I have emailed or received email from ever gotten my number or had me call them. then only two ladies that I have known before joining POF have I talked to on the phone that are on POF as well. do have to say POF has been one of the best sites for not having as much scam mail.

He contacted me on Yahoo and wouldn't leave me alone . Wrote me an email and stated that there were some people he had believed in and tried to help out, they scammed him and he now only has the money left in his duffle bag to live on......and needs money from me. BTW, he mentioned the people in Nigeria.....and he said he would forward the bank information to me............RED FLAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He begged me for help as he was starving............ I reported his email as scam............so please be aware there are tons of scammers out there, it does happen here on POF and other sites as well, it's happened to me on two other sites in the past.............I must look like a sure target or something, do I have "STUPID" written across my forehead or something? | Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 2:50:26 PM | so many of the posts are about scammers and it is obviously a problem, but there is another side to the story. i met a Ghanian girl 28 years old, through Match.com lived in Takoradi, after 3 months i took a trip out to Ghana to meet her. she was everything she had described with one major difference! she was black yet had sent a picture of her white friend ! still i thought ok i'm here now for a week i will see how it goes. i really liked her and she wanted to be with me. i sponsored her visa application for a visitors visa and it was refused on the grounds she would overstay her visa. i know she was genuine and i met all her family had it not been for the visa. i think we would be together now. sadly it was not to be. i have since met a wonderful lady who lives 30 miles away from me and i see her everyday! love you Gaynor if your reading this!
so just remember not everyone is out to scam some are genuinely trying to improve their lot and are just as dreamy as those of us that get involved
on another note my mate had a message from a russian girl but when i checked the email address it was in Poland !

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 2:52:35 PM | I get them all the time, on here and others. Never used a pay site, so have no idea what goes on there.
Always the same story with slight variations. You can usually tell right off by the syntax in their profile and/or email. Most don't answer your questions and reply with form letters.
Many of them use the same pic with different names on several dating sites. Always really hot babes, nevr an average one. Obviously not their real pic. Ask them to turn on their cam. Live entertainment!! They never do.
Couple of times I asked them for money first. LOL They disappear immediately. I love screwing the ignorant. Anybody have a good line/scam to run on the scammers? Would be even more fun with a killer response!!!!

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:02:05 PM | | I am currently a paid member of a dating site and i wont be renuing my subcription. Full of scams, every week i get 2 or 3 begging e mails. Never once came accross it on plentyoffish | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:03:36 PM | Most of the scams I run into are on paid sites singels is the main one so far and the women are always so young and beautiful !! Most of the pictures come from live jurnels of models!! If you know you are being scamed make demands of them to see what they are willing to do for the money!! Never send them money or your real pictures because what you send them they can use to scam other people!!
You can also check the header and if it has The Bat or BAT!! 99.9 chances it came from a scamer!!

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:06:26 PM | I haven't noticed any scammers here yet but then I have not used this site so much until recently. However I have had a lot of experience with this kind of thing. Long ago I was in Army intellegence and thank goodness I still remember some of the things I learned there. I played with scammers on some sites and a whole lot on yahoo IM. I could tell if they were scammers or not in about 1 or 2 minutes. I made up a series of questions that would tell the story quickly. I played with some for 6 months or more. I had 2 occasions in which I was sent postal money orders to cash and take 20% and send the rest to my friend in Nigeria and another in Russia. One was (5) for $950 each. The other set was (5) for $850 each. They looked very authentic but I held them up to the light and they didn't have the tell tale watermark that the real ones have. I took them to the post office near my home and the lady told me she would give them to the Postmaster General. I never heard again from the one in Nigeria but the Russian girl cussed me out when I told her they were fake. I finally got bored and quit fooling with them. I have a file I call the Idiot file which contains about 20 of the best scammer emails from Nigeria and every one is almost identical. Oh each story is a little different but they are so much alike its as stupid as the idiots that sent them. I will close by pasting just one of them here in case you have never seen them before.
Hi Dearest, I am the only Daughter of my late parents Mr.and Mrs.Robert Ojenagana, My father was a highly reputable busnness magnate who operated in the capital of Ivory coast during his days.I'm a deaf girl.
It is sad to say that my father passed away mysteriously in France during one of his business trips abroad in the year 12th.Febuary 2002.Though his sudden death was linked or rather suspected to have been masterminded by an uncle of his who travelled with him at that time. But God knows the truth! My mother died when I was just 6 years old,and since then my father took me so special.
Before his death on Febuary 12 2002 he called the secretary who accompanied him to the hospital and told him that he has the sum of Seven million,Five hundred thousand United State Dollars.(USD$7.500,000 Million) left in a Security Trust And Finance Company here in Abidjan,
He also gave an out standing instrution to the company that the Consignment must be sealed and well kept until i ask for it. and it was deposited as an atifact to avoid problem or tamparing by the officers of the company.before use,
I am just 22 years old and a university undergraduate and really don't know what to do. Now I want you to assist me retrieve the consignment from the security company then i will come and live with you.

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:20:05 PM | I was contacted twice by a free dating site in 2006, and tried to notify the ones who put the site together and could not get a response so I quit the site. They were both from Nigeria the offer was the same, word for word but the sender had a different name. Heard of them before and had an e-mail sent to me about 8 years ago, same contant, was able at the time to forward it to the RCMP, but now I do not know the web site to send future e-mails. Hope you all know it is a scam. Mslaval | |

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:37:04 PM | | A simple google search of the persons email address is the minimum it takes to cast light on the scammers. | |
|
| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:45:25 PM | These scams originiated in Russia, and then spread to some African nations, with Ghana and Nigeria being the most active. These scams are not just limited to pay sites, so PlentyOfFish doesn't need to think they are not susceptible.
If you want, have some fun, play along, and waste their time. This will bother them more than anything. Or, do like I have done in the past, and tell them that my occupation is Internet Fraud...LOL!!!

| Scams. Nigerians, Russians ETC. Posted: 2/4/2007 3:53:21 PM | I was selling a vehicle awhile back, and I advertised it on a couple of those free FOR SALE websites. Sure enough, I got a hit, it was a typical nigerian auto scam. Once I pulled the plug on this fool, I got maybe 4 or 5 other "offers". Do a search for nigerian auto scam, and you can see how it all works. They're not after my good looks only...........they're after my good lookin car too, haha . It's fun to play with these a**holes because it slows down their progress. I like to lead them on right up to the point of when they ask for money, then tell them "Well, it's on the way, I don't know what happened" . Oh, ya gotta love the internet | |
