| Allowance 4 kids Posted: 2/15/2007 12:16:43 PM | My house runs about the same way. I explained to my children that they have a part to contribute to the household the same way I do. I have to go out, work and earn money that pays for the food, house payment, gas etc. They have a job as well, keeping their rooms clean, doing their chores and cleaning up after themselves. My daughter, who is 11 has begun asking for an allowance, and I pointed out the treats that she gets (as well as clothes, toys etc.) I told her that allowance is paid for extra stuff (like washing my car when I need it) and if she feels the need for extra money to be used at her discretion, she'll need to work outside the house.
She's all about babysitting (she can't wait till she turns 12 in March!), so it's only a matter of time before she'll have her own money.
I also informed them that her money won't be earned at the expense of the household, and she still has her obligation to do homework, chores and her contribution to the house, or I will stop the outside work.
She's cool with that! | |
