| Aussie Spiders and your home 101 Posted: 6/7/2007 11:43:50 PM | Not a spider, but i had a rotten encounter with a stick insect once up in derby, i walked onto my porch and i saw it, it was the thickness of a broomstick and an easy 24 inches long, all green and bright yellow and bluish stripes on the legs, i thought it was a rubber toy a kid had left behind, so i went to pick it up and it reared up on me, felt like at the time that it was taller than me, so i grabbed a rake to move it out to the yard as he was blocking the entrance, and no crap but the damn thing nearly knocked the rake out of my hand ,it hit it with so much force, my arms got jolted,, True story, anyway i googled it and they mention a giant stick insrct that grows to 30cm (12 inches) , this one was at leats twice the size,,,,,
I also saw a giant mushroom in Tully once, but thats another story.

| Aussie Spiders and your home 101 Posted: 6/8/2007 12:10:43 AM | | ^^^ That's it! That is the only creature I am instantly afraid of even at a "safe" distance. The preying mantis. Cos you're never safe...they fly at you. Well they fly at me. Guaranteed when one comes in here it will find me. And you're sooooo right Robby about their strength. My Mum found one once that had twisted a green tree frog round and round like a dish-sponge and was peeling its skin from its body. The frogs screams caused her to go find out what was wrong. girly screaming and flapping arms about now | |

haha, im serious about the giant mushy, it was the size of a dining table, i saw it in the jungle in Tully when i was playing wargames, my corporal saw it too, we thought it was a big grey boulder at first till i poked it with my gun it was all spongey, so i looked underneath it had a stalk the size of a tree trunk ,,, the height was about 4 feet and about 4 to 5 feet across,,
That was before i licked the cane toad ,

| Aussie Spiders and your home 101 Posted: 6/9/2007 6:11:38 PM | | Gotta love the australian Bird-Eating spider. Big hairy and hungry. A guy down the road who does bird documentaries and stuff showed me one one day. It's about hand sized but beefy and scary (and beautiful at the same time). | |

| Aussie Spiders and your home 101 Posted: 6/9/2007 6:17:38 PM | GOOD LORD. MY GOD. SHIT. I cannot stand stick insects nor praying mantids (that's apparently how it is spelt) they freak me out!! My brother pretended to throw a big brown stick insect at me once and, of course, I thought he actaully HAD. Fairdinkum, I nearly had a heart attack. | |

In MY dream that Yeti girl is ALL woman...big, strong and roars out loud when I steal her food. You may be interested in my girl, Trinity. She's a wolfhound cross, and we call her wookie monster. She's only 2 and a half though, so about 17/18 in human years...I'm not sure it's entirely appropriate. slaps own forehead for worrying about age when there's an issue of species that might be of more concern
