The only regrets that I have is keep agreeing to people when they ask me out on a date then let you down & stand you up at the last minute!!!!

Yes there are many throughout my life that I do regret.

At times I regret quitting on my marriage, but then I think of what I went through and the regret ebbs away.
I regret not moving to France with my parents when I had the chance, but then I think about what I have here and think I'm so glad I didnt.
I regret some of the people I hurt in the early months of my divorce and then I think well actually they deserved some of what I did because i reacted to what they did to me.

There are many things that I can regret throughout my life but when I actually think about them, though I was at some fault, alot of the time I wasnt fully at fault.

So I dont dwell on them. I've moved on and I'm sure the people I've affected have also moved on, so I'm not going to worry about it and just get on with my life.

I'm enjoying myself...can they say the same thing?

I think everyone has experienced situations in their life where they've regreted their reactions/actions about something.
My opinion on it is ...it's too late now to take back what ever it is you did and thinking about it is just going to make you feel so shitty, it's done now so deal with it!
If you've hurt someone and you regret it , whatever it is then explain how shitty you feel about it and apologise, that's all you can do.
If it's something like sleeping with a guy too soon or a one night stand that you regret....hey it's happened, you can't turn back time!
I try not to worry about things too much like i used to, because i learnt that basically shit happens, so accept it!
In regards to your situation...i think you were right to do what you did, especially as you have a child to think about!
However you know what type of family they are...we don't so only you can know if you made the right decision or not!
Take care.

fleurskyblue, their loss ;) Fools!

SXECHF, well said!

You weight, your bank balance, your current situation aren't who you are... these things are the residue of who you were.

Regret and guilt... useless really.

Make good, move on and learn and grow... focus on what you want, not what you lack.

Focus on the positive and not the negative...

OP, I personally think the old bat deserves everything she got... threatening violence to you is one thing, but in front of your child?! Bang out of order. It's resolved... maybe she dislikes you a little bit more, but she knows not to mess now I hope.

Wish you well for the future x

Have you ever done anything and later regretted your decision?

Many, many, many times.

If you asked me to list them all I would struggle because I've learned to forgive myself, try to understand what I could have done differently (or put it right if it's not too late) and then move on.

I'm probably more of a looking forward than looking back person but I would hate to live a life that was full of regret.

I do not feel you over reacted .you say its not the first time she has threatened you .
The visit from the police should stop her from threatening you again .
She is the one at fault threating to smash the mother of her granddaughters face in .

Who doesn't have regrets in life. It's far far too easy to look back and see what you missed when assessing things. I admire those who can get knocked back and keep bounding forward! Personally re: origional topic I question if she was trying to get a reaction out of you to benefits your ex's claim (eg then petitions the judge saying that you hit his mother infront of your child.)

This thread was started in 2006 and the op is long gone!

Yes Ive regretted things Ive done, there cant be a person on this planet who hasnt made wrong decisions. Its part of the human condition. Hopefully they dont affect our lives on a long term basis, some mistakes are more serious than others.

Making mistakes is part of being human…not learning from your mistakes, now thats foolish!
I think in my life i have few regrets in things I have done. There are things I have yet to do that I will regret if I don’t.
All you did with the ex monster in law is make her aware that actions have consequences.

Yes I have regrets and have learned and wised up from them, I agree with post above^^ you have to live and learn to make you who you are!
.. sometimes for my own pleasure I watch my wedding video backwards because I just love the bit where he takes the ring off, walks out the ceremony and fecks off in the car!

VV EDIT I regret the wedding because now he wont divorce me.. its been 2 and half years, he should let go! I wont feel completly free again til I have it finalised..
It lasted 7 years, we get on triffic now, mainly for the kids but the marriage was a complete waste of my time!

Jules, I’m not that bad about it. I was married for 12 years, its not the getting married I regret, just how it turned out. Without knowing what went on then I can’t comment on your circumstances. I think you only really regret getting married if you felt like that before the day, and a lot of people have done that!

Yep 3 things stick out that I wish I hadn't done - although I do believe we do everything for a reason and its what makes us what we are today :)

OP,

I believe strongly that you did the right thing.

In your daughter's eyes, you have shown through example-one of the strongest teaching tools a parent has, that being bullied is not to be ashamed of or kept to yourself. You have had it recorded that your ex's Mum has threatened you... if the worse comes to the worse and your relationship with him and his family deteriorates, this could be important. You have also helped to allay any fears your daughter may have that you somehow deserved it and you have right on your side.

I often regret things in the short term, and then later look back and think that in the circumstances I did the right thing, or at least did it with the best intentions. There are a couple of things in my life that some days I will always regret, and other days I'm more philosophical about.

I think a lot of people see regret differently. A regret can be something that in hindsight, you think wasn't for the best, but are not going to loose sleep over... in my book this is ok, it's part of learning from your mistakes.
Another form of regret is something that you allow to haunt you and make you unhappy or lack faith in your self. This is unhealthy if allowed to go on too long. Don't beat yourself up over things you do in good faith, think about the alternatives, and whether with hindsight any of them would have been better, but once you've worked it out or decided you'll never know, just learn the lesson and move on. :-)

I regret not having gone the extra mile to be with my gran when she died. She loved me I loved her I should have been there - end of. I regret finishing one relationship - but that regret only came later much later when I realised that her 'out of the blue' unwarranted ****iness came with her feeling insecure. I regret not having been stronger at times and I regret not having been softer at times. I regret losing touch with some people who walked through my life and brought me laughter friendship and stimulation. I hope I have learned by these things. Oh and I regret buying lottery tickets - every time I go back for more - and feel obliged to tell my retailer he sold me the wrong one - again.

Perfectly said !!!!

I also regret sending a bunny boiler text to someone I really quite liked but who was no good for me. Though the connection needed to severed I am sad I did it so foolishly
