That said.... i dated one once.. and i'm sorry to say.. the experience has warped me forever.... I can't think about dating them anymore. I know it's unfair to judge others by this freaky boy.. but lemme explain...
This guy had such a "manly" profession, and was fond of wearing a blue, sparkly g-string... (the kind women wear.) I've never been able to dis-associate the mental picture of that with the profession. :: shudders :: | |

The men that shy away use the excuse that they wouldn't date or get involved with a female just because of the job or they admit that they have a hard time dealing with the fact that the female could kick their butt... but do we not have feelings the same, cause we have to try and stay in shape for the job too. And has for the "badge bunnies" remark from the one, guys are just as bad as the girls for chasing the uniform...Girls just don't let it go to thier heads cause we are fighting to stay equal in a guys line of work... | |

Posted: 4/6/2007 12:05:54 AM | i'm sorry but i wanted to remark because my entire family has had generations of fireman through out it.In my family both my grandfathers were fireman as were both of there fathers fireman before them.My dad and his 3 brothers were all fireman before
retireing just recently.My other 2 uncles on my moms side are firefighters as well so it's deeply ingrained in my family.I was a volunteer firefighter,but my welding career pulled me away from it,so in escense i stopped the line. You need to live and breath what you do cause the chance is there everyday you might not make it back,as is any postion,military,cop etc.In my dads 35 yr career he lost 5 close freinds with family's "work related". This whole badge bunny thing ,in reference towards the guy who's is imply'd to be using it for those terms is awefull. I'm sure if a guy wanted to "get the girl" he would just find a less strenuous,dangerous job to do it.Firefighting is in a person heart and mind. They wanna help you and are willing to put there body and life on the line to help. I don't think there hot though, ha ha i mean cmon, i'm a guy.But i do respect them cause i lived it with em. Seen the blood ,sweat and tears. | |

Hey, I'm not hating on you guys or anything - you save people's lives and property and that's great but some of you dudes are so totally full of sh!t.
I'm basing this generalization on this friend of mine . He's a firefighter. I'm better looking than him. Every SINGLE time we go out to a bar or club and I meet a chick, he swoops in with the whole "what do you think of firefighters" schtick. Like he doesn't know what women think of firefighters? His friggin' firehall had this special, unlisted "kitty line" for women to call to talk with a fireman and the phone rang OFF THE HOOK!
Plus, get this: When I recieved my masters, he came to this family party and was pulling the same crap on my mom! He wasn't trying to hit on her, he was just making sure that NO woman paid more attention to me than him. Totally upstaged me! To this day, mom still asks whatever happened to that nice fireman friend of mine. Sheesh.
I'd like to see a show where young doctors and firemen compete in picking up the most women in a 2 hour time period. Then, have a totally cheezy rockstar breeze in and scoop them all away in like 20 seconds. | |

Posted: 4/6/2007 7:56:56 PM | We're Lodge brothers and friends for over ten years. He's a pretty decent guy. He just abuses the whole "look girls, I'm a fireman" thing. Hell, I'd do the same damn thing in his boots. It's all good - the captain of one of the disctricts (or whatever) is a Lodge brother too. He's got more fireman jokes than anyone cause he's so damn old. You see, the cool thing about being a guy is that you can have fun and mess with other guys without having to worry that you hurt their feelings or "offended" them.
BTW - the "Kitty Line" was real - ask any chick from Vancouver who's over 30. Dude's were giving 3-way massages to women - in the firehall - awesome!!!

One of the guys on my Platoon up here is a former police officer with CPS and he passed on an email to the effect of what transpired at that time between Fire / Police. Certainly a moment of shame for us all... and definitely not a typical Fire / Police relationship. Well, not up here anyway.
I know what you're talking about with the poser too- I know a few of those. And, some accuse me of it too- and that's their privilege I guess... I can't help it if I love what I do. Nor that I'm proud of it.
If buddy has the tacks to swoop in on groups of women and strut his stuff and it works for him- then power to him as far as I'm concerned. I wish I had that kind of self confidence! I think to some degree we'd all like to come out of our shell more often.

Posted: 4/7/2007 8:06:12 PM | Back to the original Question here..... taking out the personality aspects of some of them who because they are firemen/police/paramedics we should all gravel at their feet.
They are all awesome... never met one yet that hasn't been a bang up guy. And Damn there are a few that would look great on my couch! I think the shifts issues/the calenders and boys club are the main problems that most women would have...
But having a son that absolutely LOVES firetrucks, we've stopped in Halls from Toronto to Vancouver and only one had a jerk (Kamloops) and I don't know that he was intentionally... I just think he wasn't on the ball... who doesn't let a kid sit in the trucks... my son freaked (I had even called ahead cause we don't live in the area to see if a drop in was ok).
It's a profession where most of the guys love their Jobs... and that is a total attraction point right there...
Plus what other jobs do you get such specialized pick up lines..... and geeeeeze some of them are just *shaking head* | |

And trust me, I can totally appreciate a good looking firefighter in uniform..
But, I have yet to meet a firefighter, either through friends or my Father, that was under 45 and not a total, pompous ass jerk. | |

I'd like to know who the guy was from Kamloops- as I know a few... strangely- I have one in mind, but they have quite a few guys on the floor. As for firefighters being pompous... We are all guilty of it- though there is no excuse to be like that around kids.
I think a lot of the pompous ass jerk thing comes from guys who are accustomed to the tom foolery around the halls, and forget that people who aren't used to it can find it offensive and demeaning. I know I've caught myself poking and prodding at women I've dated in the past, only to discover that it was irritating to them. I had no idea... until it was almost too late. But I am who I am... so, out with the old- in with the new. I guess I just have to find someone who can roll with it. So close, and yet, so far. Just remember, with the trade, 90% of the guys play at play time and work at work time and don't blend the two. An assignment is an assignment, and I can't think of any firefighter that would pull back on the throttle on someone just because he didn't like them, or didn't respect them- or otherwise judged them. It's about saving lives- not the people living them.
Me personally? I have a soft spot for teachers. Oh yeah, and nurses!

I should say, on that note, that in my experience with the two fire stations I'm currently active with that 90% of the married guys are the most compassionate and loyal family men I've ever personally met in any occupation. They're providers, they're protectors, and excellent ambassadors for the service.
The single guys, on the other hand? Well now we're talking about a different animal- sort of. I think maybe a person needs to distinguish between "dating" and "playing" because anyone not interested in a woman after 2 dates seems to be a "player." Even me- I might not be relationship material at this critical point in my life, but it doesn't mean I'm a bad guy.

On the whole, I like firemen.
My sister and my niece are volunteer EMT's.
Gotta love a group that are nothing if not Loyal to each other. I'd say you have to be if you are gonna face life and death together. | |

Until you feel a strong connection to someone why not date more than 1 at a time if you are interrested in others. I know there are some posers / players out there too... one in particular comes to mind- and I think many of us agree the problem is internal and comes from a low self esteem. Posted: 7/28/2007 8:53:36 AM | Yes... the profile is more the day in the life of a firefighter than it is directly about me- but then again... so many profiles are inflated and self serving they all blend together. I tell a new story every couple weeks... it's my therapy.
I should say I didn't realize nurses were such easy targets. Maybe I'll have to make my moves more often! I thank you for the compliments and agree... some are bad, some are good, and some are ugly... But I maintain that all of the above can be an equally good firefighter on the job.
The case is on me
