| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/14/2008 4:13:46 PM | enless you were born in europe and live there your not a european.
enless you really wanna break it down my asian, or african friend. (depends on what theroy you belive)
emm you could even say that natives are part european if you wanna play like that to. the asians crossed on the land bridge and some eruopean's cross on the icebridge during the last ice age. learned me that one on discovery channel.
still anyone here could have there ancestors from, asia, africa, say russia. not europe.
I AM CANADIAN, my parents are canadian, my grandparents are dutch on one side, and canadian on the other but i am canadian. i take that as a insult trying to have your birthright taken away from some person in a place that was so unliked that many people left and came to north america. it doesnt even matter if you were born here in canada you can still be a canadian, thats what makes it so beaitful here. not out dated veiws on the world.
everyone from every where came from somewhere else. being canadian isnt something of being born here or having family from here. its a way of living, a way of thinking.
you would be german if not for north america!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe thats why everyone flocks there and wants to see it, yes even many North Americans, suprise suprise. Europeans saw North America as a place to colonize and to expand their empires. Money to be made.
Canada like the us is only 200 and a bit years old. Its not a race. Simply a modern nationality.
If it wasnt for North Americans I'd still be European. no difference there. If it wasnt for Euro's Canada wouldnt exist, well not in its present form.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 7:31:23 AM | Erope would not exist if it weren't for Middle Easterners/Africans/Asians?
Where did the first man appear? It's a childish arguement.
Lastly don't forget you Euros would all be speaking German or Russian if it weren't for us North Americans! If was the Canadians and Americans who went over to Europe in WWII that saved your cowardice asses so you could run around, fall down, writhe on the pitch as if shot(sounds like how Europe faught the Germans) get back up uninjured and chase that stupid ball some more.
Soccer is to Sport as Belly Flop is to Diving!

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 7:47:23 AM | At least Euro's fought for their own empires and countries. Canucks fought to be British Cannon fodder. Smart.
So stick to your shite icecapades where you cant even follow the game. Go to a fight and a Game (non sensical one) might break out.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 7:51:38 AM | Are you guys done with that BS yet. What has any of that got to do with anything?
"Soccer is to Sport as Belly Flop is to Diving!" And your reasoning? Cos it's European?
I don't think you know ANYTHING about sport guy. If you'd ever played soccer against a group of guys who know how to play you would NOT say that.
I mean who is so arrogant as to insult everyone all over the world for whom soccer is the number one sport? That's the worst kind of American isolationanism and chauvinism that gets laughed at around the world.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 9:31:41 AM | isnt it kinda weird that in north america soccer isnt even on the radar when there is people from all around the world living here, but as soon as they see hockey, real football they are fans of our games and stop worring about your silly soccer.
why is soccer number 1 in the world, well its cheap to play so anyone can play it, that has a big reason. hockey needs ice and equipment one of the most expencive sports to play.
dont group the world in with soccer without knowing canada-hockey usa-baseball, football, basketball, finland-finish baseball, and hockey latvia-hockey Slovakia-hockey and soccer russia-hockey and soccer sweeden-hockey and soccer Switzerland-hockey Czech Republic-hockey and soccer Belarus-hockey and soccer
plus a whole wack of cricket loving countries out there. so does that make cricket one of the best sports....plus add in china and there love of ping pong and you have a hugh chunk of the population of the world loving that does it make it a better sport?
really the poor countries all love there soccer, as they should kinda hard to ice a team with no ice.
well soccer is played by more countries, its also the older of the 2 sports. and its not the rest of the world like so many people say, lots of love for basketball, baseball, cricket, and hockey. on a pie chart soccer would have the edge, but as a whole it would be well under half if you used population of the countries.
India-cricket over a billion people
just saying soccer isnt as much of a fav as alot of you soccer fans seem to think it is. when people see the nhl though they fall in love with the game, and forget about that silly game with the falling and crying.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 11:40:21 AM | too much north american stupidity!
First, talking about saving a$$es. it is true that the US helped and saved Europe during the world war two. now you should not forget the European help (France) which saved the George Washington's a$$ during what you call 'the american revolution' in the 18th century. had it not been for the French who drove the British ships at the end, you would have been defeated, and Washington, Franklin, etc hanged!
Second, football (and i call it football because it is football) is the best and most important sport in the world. i recommend north americans to watch the European Cup final with Manchester United vs Chelsea. you will see a great sport, instead of that stupid NFL where you see wimps and pansies wearing effiminate lycra, and ridiculous helmets which make them look like aliens from outer space. come on you guys! let's watch a bunch of pansies playing for no more than 5 or 10 minutes! how great and brave a player is standing on the pitch for no more than 5 or 10 minutes! (whereas a footballer is able to play for more than 90 minutes).
by the way, north american sports are ba$tardised forms of our sports.
NFL: a ba$tardised form of rugby. Ice Hockey: a ba$tardised form of Field Hockey (the only true kind of Hockey) Baseball: another ba$tardised form of a sport developed in Britian centuries ago, and now disappeared, whose name i do not remember, maybe stoolball or roundball?

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 11:49:57 AM | This thread should be deleted by the mods any minute now ... it has nothing whatsoever to do with the original topic anymore.
Incidentally, virtually every sport around can be attributed to something or other played in Ancient Egypt, or BC China, if you want to go back far enough. So really, all the sports you mention as "European" are **stardized forms of ancient Egyptian/Asian sports. Yes, even a form of "your" dear football was being played in Egypt in 500 B.C. So why don't we all cut the "my dad is tougher than your dad" attitude.

and your soccer is a ba$tardised form of its origanal self, whats with the forward passes? or that made the game better so it evolved.
the cfl was more of a rugby style league. Canadian Rugby Football Union was the forerunner for the cfl. however over years the game took the next steps and became the cfl as we know it today. just as soccer changed its self from a game played of no real set rules.
your a fool if you think feild hockey is even more then a womens sport. hockey is the only real form of hockey. you may enjoy it if you can a country that could ice a team that wouldnt look like fools when playing against the big dogs. Canada, the Czech Republic, Finland, Slovakia, Sweden, Russia, and the United States have dominated international competition, claiming 47 of the 48 gold and silver medals awarded in the men's and women's competitions at the Olympic Winter Games. and thats why you dont like hockey, you have never seen a real game before, so you never can really answer the origanal topic with a truthful answer.
btw i not not a fan of the nfl dont assume all north amerincas like it, i like the cfl its a better game.
ive never seen a soccer game played for more the 120 minutes then a shootout, last 2 years in hockey we have had a 4 overtime game so your 90 minutes in what works out to being a light jog doesnt compair.
they need the pads in these sports due to people suffering horriable injuires, and not being able to play or even walk again. soccer doesnt need that much due to your not going to have a 200lb man hit you at full speed.
i would love to see a soccer player after phaneuf lined him up with a open ice check.
|
| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 2:23:54 PM | | Hockey is a rougher sport and your mostly to suffer a severe injury in a game of that than soccer. Soccer does require a high fitness level however there is minimal if physical contact compared to hockey. Ultimately I really dont know the answer to this question probably because I have never played hockey but...I think hockey poses the greater threat to your body because of the fact that you have angry men skating around with sticks and rock hard elbow pads ready to take your head off. | |

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/15/2008 8:39:57 PM | I just can't stand the way Pedro makes his statements. You continue on bashing anything out of North America.

Just once Pedro I would love to see you wearing a football uniform, helmet/pads and all. Stand on the 50 yard line and have somebody like, maybe Rodney Harrison, come at you and pound you to the ground. Then we will see who the pansie is....And you will certainly see aliens then.
I love hockey, NFL, and soccer. Those are my top 3 sports I enjoy. I like basketball and baseball, but not truly my favorite. Nevertheless I keep myself updated and know the game....And at times watch it or play it. Although for someone like you Pedro, to be very bias is preposterous.
Like I said to you before....
The greatest ignorance is to reject something you know nothing about.
And it goes for anybody else that bashes soccer too.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/16/2008 2:29:12 AM | Look. Nobody over here compares soccer with rugby (i.e. American football without the medieval armour) so it's silly to compare a game that depends on full contact tackles with a game where opponents are not allowed to simply charge into an opponent and take them out so to speak. But neither are you allowed to simply 'deck' a player in basketball and yet I don't hear the din of continuous outcry from our American and Canadian friends about THAT game. I lived in the US for 8 years and I loved American sports. I do find the incessant stoppages extremely frustrating. The NFL can be extremely ridiculous sometimes. I think it's ridiculous that sports other than baseball (who have a legitimate reason for calling something the world series) refer to their domestic league winners as WORLD champions. So these American sports have plenty of problems themselves, not least the steroids scandal, it's a disgrace, they were ALL juicing. Having said that I've been to a bunch of Boston Bruins games, a lot of Celtics games and countless Red Sox games at Fenway and the Garden, never managed to get to see the Pats. All of it great, great stuff. But for me nothing quite compares to a World Cup final in soccer, it genuinely is a WORLD CUP, billions watching and some of the most gifted and intelligent athletes in the world going at it. That's my personal preference, but I have friends who like soccer but would rather watch something else. However, they would never be so IGNORANT and ARROGANT as to suggest that the majority of the world who hold it as the NUMBER ONE SPORT are IDIOTS. Look up the stats guy, it is the most popular game in the world MANY TIMES OVER. If you don't appreciate the beautiful game and don't understand it, don't advertise your ignorance. As for it being a game of divers and pussies, I tried to explain why a lot of times innocent enough looking tackles seem to cause problems, I gave you the link for one of those innocent little tackles in an earlier post...LOOK AT IT...the guys foot is dangling from his leg afterwards, tackling with your LEGS at full throttle can do A LOT OF DAMAGE but you wouldn't understand that if you'd never played soccer. Then again judging from the little profile pics besides some of the posts here by people insulting all things non American/Canadian...we're talking serious ARMCHAIR sports enthusiasts here...only bodychecks for you are on a TV screen or video game | |

Legitimate? How so? Please tell me that statement was written with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
Also, you insinuate that the steroid problem is an American phenomenon. Hmmm ... how many Eastern Europeans failed doping tests at the Olympics? Does virtually the entire contingent from East Germany come to mind? Give me a break! Steroids were used en masse by the Eastern European countries in the mid-70s. Read up on the Russian weightlifters in the 1952 Olympics. Steroids were basically introduced to sport by the Eastern Bloc.
Oh and what about that little bike race over there... Tour de France. I suppose you're going to pin that entire scandal on Lance Armstrong. Get your head back into the light.

well those two comments ^^^^^^ really show how silly some north americans are!
first, field hockey is the first and real kind of hockey, firstly created long time ago. different forms of it like roller skate or ice hockey came LATER, yes a lot LATER! as all sports are doomed to develop different forms (it is a natural process).
second, i would love to see an ice hockey player on a football pitch keeping the net or playing against, say, Ronaldinho or Ronaldo (the ice hockey player would look like an idiot lost in the middle of nowhere). this comment of mine is ridiculous, just like yours about a footballer playing ice hockey! they are different sports!
at Wizard,
so you can't stand my comments? well it was not me who has brought up the same old shite that Europe was saved by the US. as for my comments about NFL, well some north americans are always slagging football and even Europe off, so i reply using the same shite.

And that comment shows exactly what a bigot you are, Pedro. The fact that smack is silly has nothing to do with the fact that he is North Amreican. I wouldn't have to look too hard (ie, scroll up in this very thread) to find comments made by Europeans that are every bit as silly as the one made by said North American.
Oh yeah.... seems to me there is also an instance in this very thread where you claim that you do not insult people. Hmmm ... I see three posts in the past 24 hours that shoot that argument all to heck.

Why do I feel as if I am in a Monty Python movie?
The Holy Grail "French Soldier: You don't frighten us, English pig dogs. Go and boil your bottoms, you sons of a silly person. I blow my nose at you, so-called "Arthur King," you and all your silly English K-nig-hts. French Soldier: Go and boil your bottoms, you sons of silly persons! "

Yes the hockey player on the soccer field would look "silly" up against Ronaldinho or Ronaldo(?) but at least he would survive. Where as suit those two up and line them up against a 6'3" 230 lb defenseman in Hockey or a 6'4" 240 lb linebacker and missuirs Ronaldo and Ronaldinho would be scraped off the surface like the Dead Octopus at a Red Wing game. That is if they were men enough not to flop first!
Yes soccer players are highly skilled and in great shape but hockey and football are punishing sports where diving and faking are frowned upon where in soccer it is expected!
