| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/20/2008 2:35:53 PM | Mr. Pedro,
I knew you were going to fall for that one....
now seriously, of course there is only one title called 'superbowl' in this world. do you know why? because the final of NFL is called superbowl, so the winner gets it! even a moron is able to understand it.
And I'm the one that needs a brain?
now what the bloody hell does it have to do with a world champion unless you consider USA and Canada as the world?
I already told you...There is only one Super Bowl in this world, so who ever wins the SB championship are considered SB champions of this world. How come you can't understand? This is what we refer to when we say "world champions". Just because soccer has a World Cup, people like you believe when a team wins the WC they should play the world. There is no rule referring a team to be world champions just because soccer has it categorized. Your lucky we don't say SB Champions of the universe.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/20/2008 2:54:42 PM | When a team wins the football world cup its has played the world though. 2 year qualifying to get into the finals. Every country in the world.
NFL is a yearly domestic championship. The superbowl champs dont play teams from other nations, there is no recognised world championship.

Yes I know....I have heard that argument over and over again. Yes its domestic and yes NFL teams don't play teams from other nations. I am only saying that there is only one SB title in this world, so referring a team to be a SB championship, can be considered "SB World Champions". Soccer fans will argue this because they have categorized a championship called the "World Cup" and this championship title other nations play other nations....Understood. People are not understanding what I am trying to say here. Other nations will disapprove and poke fun of it, but its because soccer fans have a World Cup, so they think it doesn't make sense when an American team considers itself "World Champions".

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/20/2008 4:06:20 PM | | IT DOESN"T MAKE SENSE...it's RIDICULOUS...most Americans actually acknowledge that IT'S RIDICULOUS. The three major US sports are the only sports that do it and it's arrogant, provincial, bigoted and ignorant...there is no good argument for it | |

Of course it doesn't make sense because you are narrow-minded, biased, influenced, and a partisan.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/20/2008 4:40:45 PM | I am narrow-minded for being against provincial, bigoted, isolationist arrogance? That's a new take on things!
I have said that I'm a fan of US sports over and over. How does that make me narrow-minded? I lived there before moving back to Europe. I simply said that there are problems in US sports every bit as much as there are in soccer or any other sport, if not more. I think I've been more than fair. You're not really saying anything sensible guy...or is your mind too "narrow" to notice?

If Man Utd win the premiership when it is considered the top league, or in a similar situation Real Madrid or Barcelona win it in Spain, THEY ARE NOT CALLED WORLD CHAMPIONS..
If soccer had one league that had all the elite players and was universally considered THE league, I would have no problem with the champions of that league declaring themselves world champions.

Look in the mirror....
You're not really saying anything sensible guy...or is your mind too "narrow" to notice?
So you admit that you are biased, easily influenced, and a partisan.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/20/2008 11:46:03 PM | 4 heaven's sake...are we gonna debate on the topic of the original thread or post and stop all these unnecessary debate about world champions and what not!
Live and let live...Americans/Canadians, go ahead and enjoy your sports while the Europeans and the rest of the world enjoy the beautiful game of soccer/football, simple! ( is this comment gonna help matters? i doubt...men and sports!)

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/21/2008 1:47:31 AM | Noooooooooo...do you not read? I said that the belief that winning a domestic league entitles you to call yourself Champions of the World is biggoted, ignorant, isolationist and so on. No one has bothered to say why it's the reverse. I have also said that most people from the US accept that it is stupid and provincialist. And I have said that I am a fan of US sports but that there are plenty of problems with US sports so cracking on about soccer (especially from those who know nothing about the game) is hypocritical since there are plenty of far more serious problems with doping etc in baseball for instance than there ever has been with soccer. So, since I have weighed up the pros and cons of both sides and agree that no European or US team should be called World Champions for simply winning their domestic league...I think that makes me IMPARTIAL and YOU PARTISAN...
As for which is the toughest...I think the ones trying to insult soccer players chose this route hala since they made complete fools of themselves with their other claims, which as you might have guessed, were completely ridiculous.

Dear Wizard, i fully understand what you say here. the problem arises from the fact that you fail to understand us, we the people who say the plain truth. because ONE domestic league from ONE country whose final is called Superbowl does not mean it is World Champions, FACT!
the top football league in England is called Premiership or Premierleague, does it make them have the World Champions? no it does not! the same with the rest of European countries.
let me tell you that perhaps the Champions League or European Cup is the most difficult football tournament in the world, with European teams facing one another. well even so, we NEVER say that the team who wins it is a World Champion. it is ridiculous! tonight Manchester United will face Chelsea in the final. will the team winning be a World Champion? no i will not!
to be a fair and great World Champion you must face the best teams from the rest of continents, FACT!

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/21/2008 11:32:50 AM | no to be world champions you have to be the best in the world.
if there was more places that played nfl football then they would have a world championship. however there is not as nfl is bascialy only in the nfl, the other leauges that play nfl football are only feeder leauges.
the reason why the winner of the english soccer leauge isnt world champs is cause there is a world championship for soccer.
how can you call it the world cup if not everyone in the world gets to play? i know alot of countries cant make it based on a play in but still point is there for a true world championship all countries must have a team in.
to be a world champion you are the bestteam at your sport. no one would pay to see the nyg beat up on some feeder leauge.

I have also said that most people from the US accept that it is stupid and provincialist.
And you know this because you asked every American how the felt? What did you do? Have all Americans sign a petition for yay or nay....
They most likely said, "Oh no here comes another one complaining how Americans live their lives". They musted have just agreed with you to save the aggravation of arguing with you.
And I have said that I am a fan of US sports but that there are plenty of problems with US sports so cracking on about soccer (especially from those who know nothing about the game) is hypocritical since there are plenty of far more serious problems with doping etc in baseball for instance than there ever has been with soccer.
Stop pretending that you are "a fan of US sports", so people think your comments are justified. Baseball may have issues with steriods, but soccer has far more worst problems especially with racism. In soccer games they always prior to the game make some type of announcement to "End Racism/Violence". And you say US sports are ignorant and bigots? Plllllleeeeeease.....
...I think that makes me IMPARTIAL and YOU PARTISAN...
I am more of a US sports fan and soccer fan, so for to call me a partisan is highly unlikely. I just know the difference between both sports and say I love it. You are still complaining about our commericals and say "I hate it", so stop pretending.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/21/2008 6:00:05 PM | Going by some people's logic here to be a world champion you have to be the best in the world. The problem is too many World Cups don't have ALL COUNTRIES represented. This includes soccer and hockey. To get back to the original topic I think that soccer requires less body size, but more endurance. I played hockey and was always too small. In soccer you need to be in good shape and last longer. I agree with some who say that although you're on the field for 90 minutes, you're not sprinting everyone of those minutes. In hockey you're only 25 -30 minutes per game, but ALL those minutes are similar to sprinting. It's hard to give a clear answer to which sport is harder on the body, but I'll say hockey, but only because hockey has 82 games/season and soccer only has 40.

Yes it apparently is based on what I've read here. Kind of like asking which is better? An orange or a banana?
"""...but I'll say hockey, but only because hockey has 82 games/season and soccer only has 40..."""
I doubt, pick, that many of us could entertain thoughts of playing pro, but since we're on the subject of actually playing the game i look at it this way. As a smoker for a good many years now, i know i can still play pickup hockey a couple of nights a week thru the winter. i also know I wouldn't dream of signing up for oldtimers soccer. I just wouldn't have the cardio right now to play an entire game of soccer. Short shifts fine...few minutes back on the bench to catch my breath, perfect....but to expect me to run or even jog up and down a pitch i believ it's called, no way. Not right now anyway. Maybe next season.
If i had the cardio to play both sports then i would say i'm more apt to get injured playing hockey, but we never know for sure.

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/22/2008 4:38:49 AM | Sorry Mark...
the point was that to be able to call yourself world champion, it should at least be a WORLD tournament. Not every country will have a sprinter in the world championship final, but you can still call the winner a WORLD champion. Calling the winner of a relatively small domestic league a WORLD champion is completely ridiculous. This only began because when we were trying to explain to a few mal eleves that soccer is not so easy and prissy as they insisted it was from their cosy armchairs, they suggested that US sport was "perfect" and "flawless" in comparison with the "corrupt", "sissy-like" nature of soccer, which a few of us took exception to...
As for "wizard" or whatever the hell you call yourself, what kind of space-biscuits are you on before you type man? You make NO sense in ANY of your posts...wave you magic wand again and wish for a brain dude...or else get your money back from the genie that gave you the poor excuse for one you have

| Which sport is tougher on the body: hockey or soccer? Posted: 5/22/2008 9:23:38 AM | Now you want to insult my username to see if you can get under my skin. Your immaturity is showing. It looks like I might be the better man, but insults is what I'm good at, Mr. Dirk from Lickdick...
If you are having a problem with pronouncing my name, let me break down so you can say it:
Ozz-ing-ton or Mr. Ozz-ing-ton to you....
I think my statements were quite clear in how I was referring "world champions", but some will disagree and people like you will find it disgraceful. Oh well too bad....
When you call US sports to be arrogant, ignorant, etc....Just for the reason we state to be "World Champions", I find you to be the ignorant one....So expect a rebuttal. Choose better words because nobody likes to be called ignorant. Also when you make a post tell the truth don't lie, so you can have people think that your post is warranted.
