I grew up in that area and spent several days there each week. I know the Park Service is doing some kind of work to Washingtons Hdqrts. There are several picnic areas with tables under small roofs. The one on Outer Line Drive is nice as it borders a big field which is good for frisbee, football etc. The trail is also next to it and it runs through the whole park. It is paved so I think it's wheelchair friendly. You can also rollerblade or bike on it. Ther are other picnic areas throughout the park. I kind of think that there are bbq's but I'm probably wrong. They are on Inner Line, County Line, and Camp roads. There are more but I haven't been there in years. Some of them are next to the reproductions of the cabins used by the Continental army, complete with cannons (good for photos). Be sure to bring bug spray as the place is PACKED with deer (and so ticks) and it's where myself and my dog both contracted Lyme disease. There are plenty of great taverns and resturaunts too. I tried to pull the US Park service map but was unable to (feds...) but I got a link to a yahoo one. Hope it's a great time!

Enlibido-
I know the park pretty well too, I just don't know the names of the roads. Is outer line drive the one that goes up the hill to where the old observation tower used to be?

I had a thought- let me know what you all think of it.

I post on the Cooking and Recipe thread sometimes and I think that there are some local amateur chefs out there. How about if everyone who cooks brings there favorite or signature dish. As it gets closer to the date, I will ask that people email me to what they are bringing, so I could get a better sense of what is needed. For those that don't cook, we will still need paper plates, plastic utensil, napkins, ketchup, mustard, relish, coffee, sugar etc. Also, I will need to atrt coordintaing with those that have large coffee pots and grills and other needed stuff.

Hi everyone,

Has anyone thought about posting a 'rain-date' for this event, just in case?

This event sounds like it could be a good time for sure! I look forward to attending, and meeting others.
Any help you may need, let me know and I will see what I can do.

It would be nice to have or encourage 'everyone' to get the most out of this fun day to be there between a certain time frame. Maybe when we start the grilling/food? The more people all there at once is better as far as socializing. With the time set at 10am until dusk, I'm sure people will be coming and going and may miss out on seeing and meeting others they see that are signed up for this event.

By the way, the Betzwood area in VP park is nice. There is the bike and walking path right there. The river is right along there too. This location also provides some good shade coverage, so you are not in the beating sun all day. As for the picnic tables, they are there, but not sure how many in that section or what we will need. Also, I am not sure about how much parking is provided in that particular section of the park. (I never payed attention to look when I was last there). There should be enough spaces, but the attendance for this event seems to be growing each day,..but this is a good thing!

-Peace,
gg

I'm bringing potato salad, but we could use a couple different kinds of potato salad, so more dishes of that is always welcome.

I would love to come to this event, I am looking forward to meeting new and exciting people. Let me know what I can do to make this an event we'll never forget, I also think that donations should be taken and it should be a catered event, that way we can just come and have a great time!

I just found out about this event, but I can't find a description of exactly where it's going to be! Will the organizers post a final announcement on that? And on details like should we bring lunch food, dinner, etc. and where people will park? (if it's at Betzwood, I'll ride my bike.... I can get there by the bike trail.)

I look forward to meeting some fellow POF members. Are there any hotels close by that anyone could recommend? I will be traveling a distance and would feel more comfortable having a hotel to stay in that night.
I will definitely bring a covered dish! It will be a healthy one. I'm trying to lose weight so that I can find the man of my dreams.....LOL. They say there are plenty of fish out there....LOL. I'm hoping to find one who will want to get to know me and possibly build a relationship together. Until then, I try to get together with fellow single people and have as much fun as possible.
