| The dreaded: Daddy, I dont like that dinner!!!!!! Posted: 6/16/2008 3:53:04 PM | Ask them what fruits and vegetables they like. Then ask them if they like burgers ,steak, chicken..etc. Have them take part in meal planning and shopping. Let them help set the table and participate.Theyll eat and you'll instill good habits, too. .At this age, they can stir ingredients for pancakes, rolls, bicuits, cakes and such. They can season meats ,open cans and pour dressing on salad. Meal time do not have to be stressful | |

| The dreaded: Daddy, I dont like that dinner!!!!!! Posted: 6/16/2008 4:08:47 PM | | Like anything at McDonalds is good for kids. Once they go there, they no longer have a taste for good healthy food, because the salt is so high, it kills their taste buds. And the fat content encourages juvenile diabetes & obesity.1 out of 3 kids are obese nowdays. And you said that with such a big happy smile! That's the problem, silly. The longer you can keep em away from junk the better off they are, and the more likely they are to make healthy choices in the future. I like to cut the food in bite sized pieces, and have the kiddies build food sculptures with tooth picks. Make it fun. And neener to all who are gonna say not to play with your food. I disagreee. | |

| The dreaded: Daddy, I dont like that dinner!!!!!! Posted: 6/16/2008 4:09:11 PM | My son is 15 and 6'4"... he eats everything and anything....
I always made his baby food he just always ate what we were eating with no sauce or extras... his first food was squash from my garden... fruit was pear from the next door tree.
When he got older he would ask " Mom have I had this before?" I would always say yes and you liked it.... a little white lie... he now eats everything from Lobster (we all make mistakes!) to liver and cooked spinach ( at the same meal).
Oh and he thought that McDonalds was a carrot muffin and apple juice till he went out with his Grandmother! LOL so very funny...

| The dreaded: Daddy, I dont like that dinner!!!!!! Posted: 6/17/2008 9:34:52 AM | My kids have very different eating habits - already evident at 4 and 7. My 4 yr old son is a meat eater...loves meat. My 7 yr old daughter loves her carbs and some veggies.
So when i cook, knowing what they tend to like, i try to make sure there's something on the table to fit us all. One meal, but with different parts. Like, chicken chunks tossed in spices and quick browned...my son will gobble them up. Make them w/mashed potatoes and broccoli - my daughter will gobble those up. Son will have a few bites of potatoes, daughter will have a few bites of chicken. Adults will eat all 3.
Forcing them to take a bite has NEVER resulted in them liking it. They will insist they hate it even if they don't. Suggesting they touch their finger to it then lick the finger works better. (or touch their tongue to it).
I was a kid who "ate everything" but then when I think about it, that really wasn't true. I hated and still hate: raw onions black or green olives liver butter beans those tiny cabbage head thingys Cole slaw (gross)
Sure there's more...but my point is that it was never an issue b/c mom had a pretty good handle on what we all liked. My sister likes most of the above. And I'm sure those htings were present at meals, but I had plenty of other stuff at the table to choose from. Somehow, it works.
Plus their tastes do change over time. So having variety at the table and not being really pushy about it allows them to try things w/out feeling pressured.

black or green olives
Gasp! My faves!! Bwaaaahhh... To think that an acquaintance only recently advised me that Prevention Magazine says that olives trim down the waist [waste] line! LOL Something about 'enzymes', our little friends........ | |
