Started playing in New York City. First professional instrument was clarinet at 13....so I have been playing for 43 years. Favorite style is jazz, but love classical, latin, and gospel. I jam with the Blues. I appreciate all styles of music, however, because they are unique in their own character and therefore draw different forms of self-expression. | |

Ah, an up and coming piper. Your life will never be the same again. Please learn something more than Amazing Grace and Scotland the Brave. There are a LOT of really good tunes out there.

Posted: 6/9/2007 1:11:16 AM | I started out on trumpet back in 6th grade...since then, I've been teaching myself piano, percussion, guitar, flute, and eventually a few other woodwinds (prolly clarinet and sax). I also love to sing! I actually have a set goal to learn basic skills on every major musical instrument, this goal being partially based on the fact that I'm going to be a music director (be it band, orchestra, or other music ensemble) when I graduate.

Posted: 6/10/2007 9:49:30 AM | started playing the violin when i was 11 years old and continued until i graduated from high school, wasnt dedicated/interested enough in pursuing it any further than that...
really was never that good anyway  enjoy listening much more than playing i think, but was fun nevertheless (being in my school's orchestra)
i do cherish the musical knowledge/understanding i learned from playing though, thats for sure... | |

Posted: 6/16/2007 9:15:16 PM | I started playing Guitar when I was 18, moved over to bass about 3 months in when I realized that I could get into a band a lot faster playing bass then being another guitarist. I liked the sound of bass better also. I still play the guitar though.
I also have dabbled in piano for several years. Last year I picked up a MIDI controller keyboard and built up a DAW. I have been writing and playing most of my music on the keyboard and computer ever since. | |

Posted: 6/16/2007 9:56:52 PM | What can I say? ... if I see an instrument in the corner unplayed, I have to pick it up and try it (can't help myself). If I get any enjoyment at all out of it, I usually get a bit obsessive with it for a while till I master, at least, part of how to play it. In 51 years of playing music, I've covered most of the brass instruments, some of the woodwinds, guitar, mandolin, bass, piano and various other keyboards. Trombone's my major, piano gives me the most enjoyment, and an old beat-up classical guitar goes with me everywhere in the summer -- you just never know who you'll meet.
