^^^ What a load of ****!!!!

I can totally understand why people would go to the bar for service. I think ONE of my drinks actually arrived at the table... the waitress felt so bad that she forgot my drink 3 times in a row that she paid for it herself!!!

After a drink or two I was drinking just cranberry juice and paying with $5's ... no change!!!

I dunno how long I sat at the tables holding money to pay for drinks that never arrived!!!

I see everyone else drinking at Kingshead too. I think they need to do a lil more research! If they are relying on info from the waitresses alone then the numbers may seem low... but they may not be counting the purchases from the bar.

I agree that we may need to just reserve our own tables and leave the POF name out of it.

I go out with a bunch of guys every Friday evening after work to another bar. Every week we have no idea how many of us will show up, and we can have anywhere between 2 and 20, but yet our regular waitress reserves us a couple tables every single week and leaves instructions for her replacement when she can not be there. That is the type of service we should be having instead of the BS that we don't spend enough money.

I am sure that every single restuarant or bar in town has done enough research to know that if there are x number of bums in the seats, they will spend x number of dollars. Sometimes it will be more, sometimes less, but over time it will all average out.

Is the management actually so arrangant that they feel they do not need 10-30 people on average every week, thinking that they will come from somewhere else. What a big pile of hot and steaming crap.

from what i can tell from past experiences...people have to go early to Kingshead to avoid lines and geta decent spot to hang at anyways. Idon't see the big deal in them not making group reservations cause there are always people there early enough that can save a table or two anyways...The principal of it does suck..but the world will keep on spinning. Didn't the same sort of bitterness go on these threads about kabanas a few months back??? and, from what i can tell,(why, i don't know) others go back to that place...

I hear what you are saying Vinny... don't get me wrong but I think the two situations are quite different. I really have no real issue with the management this time, just that I am stating someone from the bar saying we won't take a reservation because you don't spend enough money is insane. It does not change the fact that this statement is still is a big pile of flaming monkey poo...

Yes Kutie, good point - the ride over to the Richmond Pub was a happy event!

havent been out in a while...due to unexplainable circumstances (Actually, there is an explanation...a very simple explanation in reality; but we aren't going to go there when discussing houses of ill repute) All that I can say is "Mono Mono Mono"...that outta fill in those cracks...if they do exist indeed!!! (now its off to WalMart...for unexplainable reasons of their own...)

Last night was a blast... Sammie, anytime... but I think the Smirnoff's you were drinking were BnB's this time -

The ride to Richmond Pub was a hoot... although I have heard from somewhere we are all back seat drivers.... how that works as I wasn't in the back seat I'm not sure.... hmmmmmmmm

The ride home wasn't near as exciting, but fun anyways just cuz of who I was with

Looking forward to next weekend, have my dancing shoes ready to go.....

@ Penny ----- Spring party at your new place!!

Re: King's Head...service sucks there. I ALWAYS have to go to the bar for a drink, then wait about 10 minutes for service. Fuk'em! It's very arrogant on their part, but their manager is only about 28 going on 16 so he still has much to learn about customer service!!

Just my 2 cents....gimme change back it ya like!

They(the Kingshead) sure liked our business last April. They even had a sign outside thanking POF.

Maybe that's what they expect now.....300 people or no reservations?????

Are we a bad group? Not really welcome at the Legion, and now the Kingshead. Whats going on??

Not necessarily a bad group Lady Di, just a few bad seeds that can ruin it for others.

No worries, they'll rethink that idea when we don't frequent the establishments...believe me, anytime I go to Bo's in Millwoods - they always ask where we are and I tell them, "Where our business is welcome."

Well they are worried enough that the manager came and spoke with KC and I today after we questioned what was said by this 'Michelle'.

While we were having this chat, it was brought to our attention that when we (or anyone) tips the waitressess, at the end of the night they have to tip out the bartenders.... BUT... when we go to the bar and get our drinks directly and tip the bartenders... they DO NOT tip out the waitress. So if we are tipping 75 cents for every drink thru the waitress, and she has to hand over 25 of it to bartenders... and they are collecting 75 cents plus the 25 cents from the girls I would be pissed too... Means the bartenders are making 50% more in tips.

There is no mandated tipping proceedures in hospitality unless the establishment is unionized. Each place has their own tipping , tip out policies. I think the waitresses should be complaining to their manager and not blaming patrons for their lack of tips. Also the fact that there are never enough servers around to ensure good service is a problem was talked about as well......

Wonder where this will lead......

Thank you Sammie, but only compared to some, there are far more courageous and definetitely far more beautiful women than me, I happen to have hung out with a few of them last night. Oh, it's great to be a woman!!!!!

Hope your birthday was amazing Sammie.....

Switching to Richmond pub from now on, much closer to home!!!

That's an interesting issue, and one I relate well to. In theory, when we added a dedicated bar, bartenders were REQUIRED to be experienced servers. They would receive tips and mandatory tip-out. The reality was, they were hired with no serving experience, and of course they'd be tipped out regardless of whether they even made or served a single drink. NO-ONE else received mandatory tips; and bartenders made more mistakes than anyone else, as they almost never knew the menu. Cushy job. Of course, this is neither here nor there.

In this case, we're talking about a busy pub. Those seats will be occupied with or without reservations, and regardless of who sits there, the drinks will be purchased wherever convenient. It's NOT a PoF issue. If the server isn't getting as much as she'd like, she should improve her service. In that environment, tips should be pooled more equally anyway. I doubt very much that any table service there on a weekend night is in any way better than bar service. It's not as if more than a handful of people are buying dinner once things are busy. Someone needs to re-evaluate what kind of service is being provided and how it should be rewarded.

edit vvv
What the manager and server are apparently clueless about, is two things:
Changing customers will NOT improve the servers' income. PoF is a more or less random sampling of the population, and isn't likely to tip better or worse, OR depend any more or less on a server for service.
Second, changing their approach to PoF essentially removes a large, consistant, and fairly well-behaved part of their business, and a large amount of free advertising with it. I heard it said in line "This is such PoF bar". That kind of says something about their business. I'm sure they'll have lots of business without the PoF volume, but not as consistant and not as "desireable".

Basically that was my comment to the manager ..who asked several times who we spoke to regarding the reservation.. it appeared that was "news" to him.

I told him that by accusing POF of not spending enough money or tipping well enough, he basically labelled a group of customers who by nature are generally well mannered, don't sell or do drugs in his bar, don't cause bar fights, and don't get stupid drunk and do stupid shit which happens in many other bars.

He agreed with me but tried to get into a philosophical debate about servers and how times haven't changed for these poor people. He said that if the server doesn't get a tip, basically they lose money serving that table because they ARE required to tip out 5% to the kitchen staff and some to both the bartenders and bussers. Not 5% of the tip but 5% of their total. Which means in some respects the bar is abusing its own staff.

Like Detts said, bartenders get to keep their tips but the waitresses must share theirs with everyone.

I agree with Frogo that they need to evaluate why their servers aren't making good tips. Most POF'ers aren't a cheap bunch. Some have less money to spend and that's reflected in their tip but never should someone be made to feel less welcome because of the size of their tip.

I certainly wasn't thrilled with the outcome of the little conversation I had, didn't leave me thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts.

I love the Kings Head and will continue to go there. Im not going to bother to comment about all the 'waitresses not getting enough in tips' stuff...but I will say this. Someone back posted that people go to the bar because the waitresses take too long and they get the same service from the bartenders.

I ALWAYS go to the bar to get my drink and ALWAYS get great service. If I am in the line and the person ordering is taking a while (to count money or whatever the case may be), the bartender has my drink ready and I just have to pay when I get to the bar. No Im not there every night, but I am there usually once per weekend, like a lot of other pof'ers.

Anyway...that's my rant. I had to pick up for the bar staff there because out of any pub that gets that busy...they are waaay better in my opinion.

I dont even drink alcohol and still tip the waitress when she brings me a soda if I am sitting at the tables. I tip the bar if I go grab one myself. I have been sitting there many times when money is given and no change is returned, again by the waitresses. I'm sober, I pay attention. Maybe the waitresses are just tired of the huge pile of people that she has to walk around to get to serve her areas, but I know two of the girls there are great, but sadly, only two.
