I was just wondering what the Persians would say?
I heard that there is an anti-300 movement going on out there,
since some Persians think they have been portrayed in a bad light.
I should ask my friend, who is Persian and happens to be a film producer,
what he thinks of the movie!
Mind you his taste is quite ....eccentric... let's just say...when it comes to movies!
Not your typical Hollywood film afficionado! lol

It seem that you all enjoy theese party, and thank's to the person how got this great idea,hope that the next party will be schedule on saturday,because for me friday is a good busniss day,but i'm going to drop down busniss and be with you..

I was just wondering what the Persians would say?

I believe that Montreal Guy, (who I am still hoping will come and share with us; since I have tried to contact him for this purpose but his preferences prevent me from doing so), said it best. "This is just another Neo-Con movie". Hollywood is known for attempting to re-write history in it's plebeian and ethnocentric way.
Though the theme of the movie is loosely based on a famous ancient battle, it is important to keep in perspective the following:
1. Sparta was never a democratic state like Athens was. It was always a monarchy and Leonidas was one of it's most colourful kings.
2. Though this event was an invasion by the Persian forces, it is important to remember that within their ranks they had whole brigades of Greek crack troops hired as mercenaries to fight against their fellow Greeks.
3. The invasion failed more out of luck than pure bravery. The invaders did not research the geography before attempting this mass suicide mission. The Greeks on the other hand took full advantage of their opponent's failure.
4. History it is said, is written by the conquerors and the vanquished are vilified and made to suffer eternal humiliation.
Having said all of that in light of the real issues at play at the time, it is only natural that some Persians (in modern speak: Iranians) should feel misrepresented. If we put all of this into the modern perspective, it is only natural that a lot of hot air will be passed around from both sides.
I believe that the only way to move out of the past and into the future, is to share our mutual needs for peace and prosperity, not to perpetuate the misguided past.
Learning is growing.
I would love the opportunity to sit with your Persian or Iranian friends and have a real discussion, but let's enjoy the film as an interesting and simply entertaining experience.

Just to let you know, this dinner is now completely FULL as I stated I am limiting
this event to just 30 SPOTS at the restaurant!
I have a few people who will be attending who are not on the sign-up list,
as they are guests of feeeeeshies who are signed up.
There is no limit to the number of people who would like to join us for the Movie

I am looking foward to seeing everyone at our dinner and movie this week!
I would agree with Lauren that it would be nice for people to get in
touch with me (msg me through my profile), letting me know if they wish to attend.
It's not a good idea to have a free-for-all at a restaurant.
This is not a club space where everyone can pile in.
I am the person who is dealing with the resto....
and I don't want to create more difficulties with the venue.
I know having a *limited* get-together is something rather new-ish to POF,
but I have hosted many dinner parties off this site and know how much fun
they can be!
Extra people showing up who didn't have the courtesy to reserve a spot
through the host (myself)...well, that is just not very considerate.
If people who are signed up want to bring guests, please msg me...
I would really ask you not to encourage people to just crash our get-together,
please?

I will call Boccacinos early tomorow morning, just for you,
and tell them to reserve a little spot where you can camp out there
until the rest of us arrive on Friday night...
I'll even ask them to throw in a nice little cot with extra pillows!
How does that sound? :)

i meant that if more ppl than expected show up (ie: ppl who didn't sign up and/or ppl bringing guests), and there isn't any room at the table Poetica reserved, i don't mind sitting at ANOTHER table with random ppl...
pls don't get condescending or harsh with me - i'm the last guy to deserve that. | |
