| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 4/15/2007 1:35:56 AM | For me, if there is no pic, I really don't even consider the profile to 'real.' I ignore them completely. I have never responded to, or deliberately looked at, a profile without a pic. Its not just a physical attractiveness thing, it is more than that.
Its like a profile without a pic is almost a ghost profile. People were not made to interact with faceless entities, they were made to interact with people. No pic means 'not real' to me.

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 4/15/2007 4:14:30 AM | If there is no photo on a profile, and know that I only look at women's profiles so this is not a gender thing but only my experience, I assume I am looking at the profile of someone who stands about 4'6" on her back paws.....
For all the reasons women list about why they don't post a photo, and many of them seem to have them on a list taped to their monitor, I'm not buying any of them. You are here allegedly to meet people. That's not going tohappen without a photo. And please don't anybody tell me how the photo could be a fake anyway, about being from a small town, your job prohibits it....
Post a frickin' picture.

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 4/16/2007 2:30:10 PM | | i have as many pictures up there as they will let me put. i dont see the reason why people dont do it. they say oh i dont want people to know i am on a dating site at work. why not? int it normal to date? whats the embarrassment? why are people still so embarrassed about meeting people on dating sites. its only another way to meet people . there is nothing there to be embarrassed about. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 4/16/2007 10:23:02 PM | | From what is said and my own experiences I'd guess that about 10% of the people on dating sites will actually hook up with you for a date without knowing what you look like first. So, you can continue without a picture but would probably have more success with one posted. I tend to be shy about posting my pic because I live in a big city but small enough that the lurker/stalker types can kind of surprise you on the street by acting like they know all about you because they saw your profile. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/5/2007 7:35:22 PM | | Of course it is important. But, at least for me, since I just like getting to know people, it's more for the fact that someone who puts their pictures (actual picture that is) out for everyone to see is less likely to be someone who has something to hide. Of course, there are always those unfortunate exception to the rules. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/5/2007 8:14:24 PM | It's very important. I don't respond to messages without a picture anymore. I've had my share of those. Besides I don't email women anylonger, if they are interested in me then they should contact me. I've had my share of NON RESPONSES one to many times. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 5:36:55 AM | | A picture is 100% important. I wont talk to anyone who hasn't atleast put up a picture, I have to know if I need to 'head for ze hills' and a picture can tell me if im going to be attracted to that lady or not. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 6:44:24 AM | | The absence of a pic w/ a profile, and especially for incoming email, does not bode well for the sort of person that I am ISO. Too much mystery, even I do get curious to see and read what is usually lacking for a self-description that might set them apart from others also. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 8:04:32 AM | | Pictures are EXTREMELY important. I have received messages from Women, that have no pictures available and before it goes any further I need a picture. I hate it when they ask for MSN to send it there. I like to know everything upfront and if there is no attraction, why prolong the experience? | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 10:06:14 AM | | It shouldn't be questionable at all.... I'm not embarassed of what I look like and I wouldn't mind putting up my picture if it wasn't for my job position. Sometimes, it truly isn't about hiding anything, it's simply what is appropriate for your situation. I don't mind sending a picture to anyone that asks me because then, it's private... it's not posted for everyone to see. | |
|
| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 10:08:55 AM | If you see a profile and she might be of interest to you, why don't you contact her and ask her for her pic. She might very well send you one right away. If not, then maybe, you could consider the alternative, that she's hiding something. To say that a profile is not real because there is no pic, is somewhat ridiculous. Usually, there is a good reason why the pic isn't posted. | |
|
| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 10:13:06 AM | You're absolutely right... you should expect the same.... ask for one.... Having a pic posted publicly is not for everyone. If the person refuses to give you a pic, then, there's no sense in continuing a conversation with a faceless individual. I too, want to see who I talk to... it's a matter of comfort. Fortunately, some men have taken the time to ask me for my pic, and they have received one. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 10:36:08 AM | I used to not chat with any woman that didn't have a picture at all. Talking only to those with pictures. It is kind of neat to place a face with the person your emailing. But I got to chatting with one lady. I found out the moment she posted a picture of herself she had 20 emails... mostly from Morons wanting to get into her panties. This is another of those things that totally ruins it for the nice men out there.
I wrote one woman one night. No reply and was going to move on. She was a pretty lady. But someone here on POF made a comment about men only writing once and wondered why they never write twice. Ever email a hundred emails without a single response? Wish I was stretching that a bit. So after reading that woman's post I sent a second email. The lady replied. We traded a few emails after that. Didn't sense good chemistry so I moved on. But one of the things she said was. "I do recall reading your other letter, sorry, but I got hit by so many men at one time." Then she said she was going to remove her picture so that wouldn't happen.
So I got to realizing pretty women don't always post their pictures. In some cases it would probably be less of a headache for them not to post one. So I've opened up my mind and started talking to those without a picture. Sooner or later I'll see who they are and what they look like. Besides, pictures can be fake.
I had a picture of a wonderful friend that I meet in 1999. Sexy, thin, blonde.. well the Blonde hair wasn't a lie. She went from 37 years old to 55 over night, weighs more than I do. The picture was of a relative of hers. We are still very good friends by the way.
So to me it no longer matters. A change recently made in my way of thinking over last few years.

If that works for you then cheers but in my opinion its going to drastically reduce the interest of men in contacting you on a dating site. that's just my 2 cents.

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/6/2007 12:50:36 PM | | i think its important, not a necessity, i email ones without pictures, but i email a lot more that have pics, its a little easier to email someone that is confident enough to put a picture up . if they dont you wonder if they are not confident of themselve or hiding something . | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/14/2007 10:57:55 AM | | A picture is very important to me.I need to see who I'm talking with, and that the other person is for real, and has nothing to hide, and is a member of the opposite sex.I put my pic up,and come from a small town,soI figure the other person can too,or I just won't bother to respond to the email. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/14/2007 12:02:53 PM | | The single most important thing, end of discussion. Even in real life the first thing you see is what you base your reaction to a person on. Are they good looking? Do they dress well or are they a slob? From there things start to get fleshed out as they open their mouth and start talking. Do they cuss and swear? Are they using a bunch of slang and "gangsta" talk? Do they sound educated or like they have just graduated high school? Then people analyze your actions. The way you walk and present yourself. Do they seem like they are confident or do they constantly look at the ground? Are they laughing and smiling or sulking? Opps rabbit trail. Uh, in essence yes its important, no I don't talk to women without a pic unless its to tell them that we would love to see a picture of them. Physical attraction generally comes first, then intellectual and spiritual and emotional follow afterward. With friends it can go the other way however. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/14/2007 8:26:44 PM | | A great conversation might lead to a dead end if there's no attraction... waisted time because most us here aren't just looking for a good chat. Pictures very important. | |

| How important is a pic for the profile? Posted: 5/14/2007 10:20:42 PM | Just post a picture. You wouldn't want to walk around meeting people with a blind fold on would you? Both people should be able to see who they are dealing with. After all, we are born with a pair of eyes.... Why put it off? You will likely get around to showing them a picture some time or another, so why put it off till some other time?
Post a few on your profile so viewers can get a more real idea of who they are dealing with.
