| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/22/2007 8:53:42 PM | Wooooooo! we did it! SWEEP!!!! Papelbon is just fantastic.
First time in 17 years at Fenway against the Yanks. That was a preview of what the ALCS is gonna look like
Man I wanst sure about that JD Drew, but he was also part of the last 4-straight-homers stint last year with the Dodgers against the Padres. I think we better watch him!
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/22/2007 8:57:57 PM | | Hi-5, lilac!!! That was one hellova game to watch! How sweep it is .....! | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/22/2007 9:08:38 PM | | Hey I like that shirt, gal. I need one! I have one of those hats. Wearing my classic B hat now. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/23/2007 12:27:28 PM | That Red Sox jersey means the world to me. It was given to me by my daughter for Mother's Day last year. Over the years, she has listened to my yelling at the TV, put up with my working my schedule around when the games are on (or trying to)!
Last night after, the third homer, there was a lot of Woo Hoo's going on....... now she just rolls her eyes, shakes her head and goes back to her room! lol
Go Sox!! | |

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/23/2007 4:49:18 PM | Time to tick off Red Sox fans. I always have been, are, and always will be a Red Sox hater. Why? I've always had a hatred for teams in any sport that are "media darlings". Especially the ones like Boston that have rarely done squat. For a team that's won 2 World Series in the last 100 years, why are they regarded by the media as one of the greatest teams ever? The Florida Marlins have been around for less than 25 years and THEY have two WS titles. Yet the media falls all over themselves heaping praise all over the Sox. And this "feud" with the Yankees. Please. New York v Boston is as competitive a "rivalry" as the Harlem Globetrotters v the Washington Generals. Except NY v Boston is a LOT less entertaining. P.S.: Before Boston fans rip me to shreads, I'm also a Yankees hater. GO REDS! | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/23/2007 4:55:00 PM | Your insight is noted. Although I am not sure what the last 100 years has to do with how things are now. I always say look at the last 10 years, before that, its historical with any team.
Heaping praise? You dont think our 4-homers-in-a-row last night was praiseworthy? How about the fact that we are now the best team in baseball? Ah well. To each their own.
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/23/2007 5:03:03 PM | | Nothing wrong with giving praise-when it's deserved. 4 homers in a row IS a good accomplishment. As for "the last 100 years", MLB constantly shoves the word "tradition" down our throats. "Best team in baseball" dosen't mean anything right now. Plus, they're NOT the best, they simply have the best record-for now. Best team? Let the dust clear in October and we'll see who the "best team" is when it REALLY counts. And, if it is Boston, so be it. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/24/2007 9:45:37 AM | Who said they were the best team in baseball? Maybe I missed that somewhere in the posts. The Sox have been performing well so far, but I think any Sox fan will tell you, the team has the fan support whether they are sitting at the top of their division or struggling.
If we were going to be fans of the best team in baseball, we would be switching teams every season.
Tradition not important? Sure it is! Tell anybody who goes to Fenway that tradition and nostalgia are irrelevant. I've never been there, but you can see it in the crowds. Watching the games from home, I can see and feel the love those fans have for that team. The heart and soul of that team comes from its longtime fan support.
The Red Sox are a hardworking bunch of boys who will dig until the finish (well, maybe not Wily Mo) to see a win. The intensity of the last two innings of most of their games shows how much determination they have.
Those are just a few reasons for loving the Red Sox. There are lots more. Seeing them sit at the top of the division is always nice to see, but I don't stop being a fan when they are sitting in last place.

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/24/2007 11:18:40 AM | Lilacprincess called them the best team in baseball a few posts ago. I felt it was my duty to debunk this "grand and glorious tradition" of the Red Sox. The only tradition they have is being perrenial bridesmaids to the Yankees. The wild-card team was created to insure that the Yankees AND Red Sox made the playoffs every year. Too bad the Sox can't hold up their end of the bargain. Remember, I said in an earlier post that I hate the Yankees, also.
Three notes:
1-There IS NO tradition in baseball. MLB forfeited any right to claim tradition in 1994 when they refused to play the World Series, thus showing they didn't give a damn about the fans-who, by the way, pays their inflated salaries. 2-Jamieberry-you insinuate that I'm a fair-weather fan. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have ALWAYS pulled for the Reds, Cowboys(NFL),Tennessee(college sports). 3-Lilacprincess-Even going by your twisted logic of the best record on Apr.24 means best team, it is my (not so) sad duty to inform you that the Red Sox do NOT have the best record in MLB-that would be the LA Dodgers(.684). Boston is tied with the NY Mets(.667). Sorry .

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/28/2007 7:36:02 AM | We did it again! We wiped out the yankeees!! 11-4!
We handed them their seventh straight loss last night. Have a look at the standings now... they are at the bottom of the AL East now... how great is that!!
The sox are still the best team in baseball, but how is it we can beat the yanks but can't seem to beat a team like the blue jays?? Everyone is right, however, in that the "best team in baseball" changes with performance, which is why we have standings.
At that point, The dodgers either had the same win percentage as us or lower, which mneans that there was no one better than us. At that point, we were .688 when they were .684 . And also within that week, and still true now, we have had fewer losses, so sorry, but the SOX were not behind the Dodgers. I examined this closely. I tell no lies.

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/29/2007 11:07:56 AM | Julian Tavarez really sucks. He is the weak link in a strong pitching rotation. It'll be so good to see John Lester (hopefully) take his spot when he makes his return from cancer | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/29/2007 11:19:05 AM | | I have never liked Tavarez, especially when he gets going on his wild pitches..he needs to be back in the bullpen.. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/29/2007 1:33:02 PM | Wooo we did it again!!
no sweep this time but 2 out of 3 against the yanks!! Still good. Good good good. I even got a compliment from a guy on my hat at the Wing Stop where I watched the game. That's what I call a man with respect!

| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/29/2007 7:20:45 PM | | Getting back to the original question, relying on Ortiz & Ramirez to take us to the playoffs is not a safe bet. Put them in the middle of a good lineup, and you're definitely going to see something good happen. It's still early, but I'd say the middle 5 are good, solid producers right now. Ortiz, Ramirez, Drew, Lowell & Varitek are tearing it up- as long as they stay healthy we can play some pretty good offence. The rotation has been pretty consistent so far- Schilling and Beckett are on fire (it's great to see Beckett has finally settled in), Dice-k is still acclimating himself to the AL east, which isn't as easy as some might think, and Wakefield- pretty solid but geez, when are they going to give Wakey some run support?! Then, there's Tavares. God willing Jon Lester will get healthy soon enough to push this goof back into the bullpen. (sorry-ever since that ****-slapping episode at ST last year I've never been able to respect the guy.) Even the bullpen has been strong for a change! Okajima has been outstanding! Defensively we're talking a whole other ballgame. I loved the comment earlier about Wily Mo chasing butterflies! Beautiful!! lol! Even Coco has not been up to par- his fielding (when healthy) was absolutley remarkable last year! This year, he's so far off the mark too often for me to have any confidence in him there. Cora & Lugo together would never match the SS skills of Gonzalez, and WTF is going on with Pedroia??? I think the FO got a little ahead of themselves last year, when they moved him up & he did so well. He's definitely struggling at 2nd- should NOT be starting yet. Lowell's been okay- even though he's nearly matched his grand total for errors last year and it's only April, Youk's doing alright ( although we are becoming a little too familiar with his strikeout face- what is that?!), Manny's not doing bad, but he's never been the best fielder. Drew has made some fantastic plays, though. Bottom line, if the Sox can play solid offense, we'll be fine, because their defense needs work. And we need to get as far ahead in the standings as possible before the Yankees are at full steam ahead with their rotation again. Talk about a train wreck! | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/29/2007 7:46:22 PM | | Lets not forget Jonathan Papelbon who has been a saviour in more ways than one. He has been truly amazing. | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 4/30/2007 7:41:40 PM | All I can say about the Red Sox is that I hope both they and the Yankees lose. I'm tired of MLB and the media acting like those two teams are the only ones that matter.
I was glad to see the Red Sox win in 2004 because their fans deserved it, but it was getting old just seeing the two teams that paid WAY more than anyone else in the ALCS year after year. The Yankees got all the bad press for being the high-budget team, but the Red Sox are right up there.
Granted I'm biased as a Twins fan, but I love seeing what the AL Central has been able to do becoming far and away the best division in MLB while having payrolls that pale in comparison to the evil empire teams.
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/11/2007 2:05:28 PM | WOW.....Tim Wakefield has the lowest ERA in the AL and he made the Blue Jays look even more rediculous.....he's been on fire recently and hopefully he can become another ace on the pitching staff.....
| |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/11/2007 7:20:44 PM | | they are on a win streak now and i hope it continues!they have what it takes to win the division this year-GO SOX GO!BY THE WAY LADIES,I LOVE THE RED SOX! | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/11/2007 8:53:57 PM | They are on fire!! Sure they have the occasional bump in the road, who doesnt?? but They are doing just fab!! Best in the AL just now!! Only slightly and VERY briefly behind the leader of the majors, Milwaukee. NOT the Angels!
I also think Dice-K is getting warmed up to the ideas of the majors now...
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/12/2007 5:45:10 AM | It's fun to read the predictions here. Some of you guys were right on (so far)!
I am happy to see Beckett doing well. Dice-K is not a thriller, but he gets the job done. Like Cora lot. The Greek God is also having a good year...he's such a cutie!
My sister called and was all upset when the "dodger" rejoined the Yanks...I said, don't worry, they need a lot more than one old pitcher.
Anyone want to meet at Camden Yahds (Fenway South) when the Sox are in town???
Go SOX!!!! | |
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/12/2007 6:54:20 AM | I think this is the best all-round team we have seen in a few years. The pitching is awesome with Beckett and Wakefield. Dice-K is still getting acclimatized to the majors...we have yet to see his best pitching...Taverez, I'm not too fond of, tho.
The boys have found their groove at the plate. We have the sluggers, the base hitters, and the base stealers.
Defensively, things are looking good as long as we can stay away from the errors and damn, I wish somebody would teach Wily Mo how to catch a ball. He's the only thorn in my side right now. He doesn't dig for the ball, doesn't give it his best effort, doesn't run hard enough ... I think he's lazy!
To redsox4me: I would love to meet ya at Camden Yahds for a game and a couple of . It's just a little out of my way...by the time I got there, the games would be over! Maybe next time!
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/13/2007 9:21:15 PM | We're back on top again!! Spent more days as "the best team in baseball" than any other team, so IMHO that pretty much solidifies that for this season so far. Let's hope we can keep up something like this through September! Its almost June folks!!
and I have the chance to buy a Sox ticket for when the Rangers play them in Texas.!!I'm about 8 miles from the Rangers ballpark.
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/14/2007 7:36:14 AM | Just when you think the game is over, the boys pull a horseshoe out of their butts ...capitalize on an error, get a rally going and win the game!! I love the last innings of a Red Sox game!
And yes, we can proudly say that they are the best team in baseball ...for now anyway!
Lilac: Take lots of pics...and yes, I am a bit envious!
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/14/2007 7:32:30 PM | Just when you think they're done for, they pull another one off. Just like their legendary selves!
The gal with the ticket says she's going to meet me at the 3rd base gate, so I will just go and meet her there. Fri May 25th. I wonder who will be pitching?? If they keep to the 5 day starting rotation, I'll be watching Matsuzaka pitch next friday. Wooooo!!!
Hey do you go to the Red Sox message boards? Check them out on the red sox website.
|
| Red Sox 2007 Posted: 5/15/2007 6:42:46 AM | A PCT over .700 right now! Doesn't get much better than that. I didn't get to see a lot of Dice-K's complete game, but I did see the last couple of innings and he was still throwing solid pitches. I think he has finally found his comfort zone...
I do go to the Red Sox message boards on occasion. I haven't been there for awhile though...should stick my nose in there again!
